A few years ago, I won a contest online for a limited edition SAW IV movie poster. There were only about 250 of them made, and the proceeds went to a childrens AIDS organization, which was really cool. So I ended up winning one that was signed by the cast and crew. Came with a certificate of authenticity as well as a copy of SAW III Unrated on DVD. Planned to have the poster framed. It arrived and the packing tube (which was pretty sturdy, actually) was crushed in the center. Totally fucked the poster up. I called UPS and filed a complaint. They only gave me back the $25 value of the non-limited edition poster (the limited edition was going for about 1300 on eBay at the time). I never heard back from the company I won it from, and I sent photos as well.

I bought a Roland sampler off eBay and paid $60 for shipping. The buyer paid $17 for shipping, USPS Media Mail. The seller packed it in a box 3x the size. However, the packing material was only a dirty towel and a piece of masking tape. Came 37 days late, the box was split in half and the power cord was hanging out the back, destroyed, and the sampler was dented in 4 places. Box was marked by USPS "box damaged, contents damaged, contents missing" . Another time (more recently) I sold a rare Yamaha sampling keyboard on eBay. I sent it to the eBay Global Shipping Center in KY (not far from where I live). It was signed for, then lost. Bogus.

Never use the Ebay Global Shipping Program. They open your mail, repackage your stuff to make it as light as possible, which means they chuck most of your packaging material. All so they can make as much money as possible and screw you and the buyer over when that package arrives damaged.

I specifically have to mention when I buy Sega CD or Saturn games for them to do something to prevent the disc from coming loose and bouncing around the case. I got a game that had the case plastic wrapped, bubble wrapped, wrapped in paper and put in a box padded with newspaper... with the disc flying around the case loose, scratched beyond playability.

it wasn't the fault of the postal service but the seller. I bought the SEGA CD game Silpheed and he sent me the wrong backing. So he mailed me it and ...he folded it in half to fit it in the envelope.

I have come home to find my mail on the floor right in front of the mail box, so it makes me wonder if my mail man is just that lazy that he couldnt lift the mailbox flap to put in the mail. I often find I have my neighbors mail so I wonder where my mail ended up. The worst was one time in early November. I paid the most expensive service available to ship a package to Mexico. I wanted it to get there before Christmas. The mail lady at the counter told me it would be there long before Christmas. Christmas came around and the package was no where to be found. Many calls and emails later to the post office my package was delivered in March.

I lost a Boxed Dreamcast during international shipping. Ebay purchase, the item was "tracked" but the scumbag seller wouldn't actually share a tracking number with me. Complained he had to pay double shipping to ship it to New Zealand, and then downright ignored me. It was all too late for me to complain because all the usual options had expired during the many months I was waiting. Maybe he could have been a nice guy seller, but he just had no interest in dealing with me after he'd taken the money and shipped it off to me. Fully Retro came to the rescue and had reasonably priced (compared to New Zealand auction prices at $300NZD for a loose console only) Dreamcasts, so I picked up a replacement in its box for $200NZD. If this one doesn't show up, I'm clearly destined to never own or experience the full glory of the Dreamcast. I can however fiddle with the 3 mediocre controllers and 4 rumble packs I bought to compliment the first one.

OMG. Do nor get me started on the Hell I went through with USPS. I lost a ton of money. I had a two month period where 2/3 of the stuff I shipped never arrived or arrived missing stuff. I had one postal worker flat out tell me stuff had been stolen from within USPS. But nothing was done. Nothing. God I had USPS.

I've bought an N64 console online with all accessories and when I received it, the console was literally infested with small roaches that once lived inside the console. All were dead and rattled the N64. All my games would always black-out and randomly change its picture view. Most of the time stopped working every time I played for more than 30 minutes, then works again after cooling it off. It sucked. Luckily my friend gave me his spare N64 and put the expansion pak to that console.

I am a reseller, and the one thing I hate is refunds because I owe them their money back plus my own money for shipping. I always ship my items with thoughtfulness and I try to think of a situation where a weak spot in my packaging could get damaged. And then I patch that part up with more bubble wrap. I think about my customers during the shipping process. Because I sell a lot of toys and games, and so I think about how happy they'll be when they get the item. That is the most fulfilling thing to me. If someone sends something through the post office to someone, their is automatically 100 dollars on it for insurance. I print my shipping labels through Ebay and Amazon, so I do not do this. But it's nice to know. Their are horror stories on the sellers side too. Some people lie and say they didn't get an item, but the tracking number says it was delivered. If they open up a refund claim through Ebay, the tracking number is proof they did get it. If I do not have a postal scale for any other reason, that would be it. Also, someone gave me advice that if an item is 200 dollars or more, you put on a signature confirmation. I put insurance on items that are about 60 dollars or more. It's usually 1.50-2.50 for insurance. I know a story from someone, they sold a nice horse saddle to someone on Ebay. They sent it in a plastic bag, with packing peanuts. And the person got it and send tons of emails complaining their son had an allergy to a material in the saddle and got really sick and just basically chewed his ass. He said alright send it back I'll give you a refund once it's in my hands. And when he got it back, it was exactly how he packed it. She didn't open it to begin with. LOL people are crazy!! Buyers can feel confident though buying from Ebay because Ebay most of the time sides with the buyer. Sometimes the buyer is wrong, like the listing shows how damaged the item is (like rust from age) and the buyer once they get it wants a refund because the condition wasn't good. Even though it was perfectly clear their was damage on the item from the listing. And Ebay forces the seller to give a refund and sides with the buyer. I have heard those stories before.

I am terrified to order comic books online, because I'm in a group for it on Facebook, and I can't go on that page without seeing someone's pictures of a comic that they got that is fucked up because the mail carrier stuffed it into the mailbox, and to make it worse, a lot of them have "DO NOT BEND" written on them. I already have a problem with my mail carrier chain smoking in her car, so my mail reeks of cigarettes, so I don't want to risk that shit getting crammed in the box.

It got to a point in Australia, that the staff were stealing too much packages, that the Postal Service had to add shipping as default to the basic package shipping, but that doesnt stop the staff from stealing international packages. This year ive probably lost $500 in items thanks to them....

For a year I got sub to several marvel comic books through marvel to try to save money long run. Have more for other comics. In that time the postman would bend comics, rip them, leave them in the rain (sometimes have plastic over them but not always and sometimes plastic was ripped). There books that never came. It was first indication that bradley beach post office was corrupt. Packages had stuff delivered with stuff missing, the packages open, video tapes damaged or erased. Magazines with cds and dvds bent. The magazines would say right on them not to but they do. Luckily nothing broken from magazines but they didn't give a crap. I moved to Wall a few years ago and thought that was behind me. Well UPS people who deliver to wall are idiots or lazy as anything. They have left packages out in snow several times. Thats when they decide to deliver them at times. I mean there are times where UPS truck if there is dusty on the ground won't go up our drive way.

The postal service in Denmark is abysmal. Every time i recieve a package I pray that its intact. I allways ask the seller to take extra care when shipping and for the most part they do, but I have a quite alot arrive over the years in less than great condition.

I had a bad post office in the past. I'm not sure why but some post offices are plagued with thieves. For years, I've had narcotic medications delivered through the mail, and this one post office always stole my shit. I even had a federal treasury check for $400 cashed with a forged signature in my name. Once I moved, I never lost a piece of mail again. Yeah, fuck that post office!

I'd ordered a PS1 game online, my thing with disc based games is when I get them they must have the original case so I made sure that it was marked as "complete" when I ordered it, the seller mailed me just the disc in a bubble mailer, the disc was broken in half on arrival, thankfully I filed a claim through Amazon and the seller was forced to give me a full refund. Also had issues with packages being marked as delivered but not being dropped off, the last straw was when I had ordered new boots for work (I'm in the Air Force and am required to have specific boots) my old boots were completely falling apart after a deployment so I ordered new boots when I got home and paid extra for next day delivery, at 4 p.m. the package was marked as delivered and by 6:50 ten minutes before the post office closed I called them up and asked where my package was they said it should have been delivered as it was marked as such but they would check the truck that was supposed to drop it off, the delivery truck still had every package from that day in it, the dude had not delivered a single one but marked dozens of packages as delivered. Thankfully the post office ensured I got my package that night.

He put it right on the stop where all the water from the gutter was draining down and falling down on the arm of the chair. It got comepltly soaked and the cardboard was mush. I got lucky though the seller packaged it in like 3 layers of plastic under the cardboard. Big releif I spent $80 for it.

I ordered a grab bag of comic one time, had a nice variety and all. The day I received it it was raining out, I found the box by my front step, no plastic covering. When I picked it up, I noticed the box was torn on one corner top to bottom, starting to fall apart with a few small wads of packing paper inside. I could see the books stacked loosely through the tear... Luckily nothing was damaged.

Got an immaculate copy of Amiga Shadow of the Beast off ebay for quite cheap. Shipped from Europe. The packaging was okay, but apparently not barbarian-proof. The game made it perfectly all the way to my house, where my mail carrier proceeded to stuff it into a tiny mailbox, folding the box almost in half instead of taking two steps to the right and leaving it on my porch. I was so pissed off, I wanted to cry.

I sold a guitar on eBay. DOUBLE BOXED filled both boxes with foam and bubble wrap. The headstock looked like someone had smashed the box straight into the ground. FedEx initially tried to deny my insurance claim on the basis of the box wasn't approved for shipping. However, the interior box was the actual box it was shipped in the first time and the outer box said this: FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS shipping container. FedEx eventually paid me the full insurance claim but I have not been back since. That was August 2005.

I've experienced twice that stuff I order from UK to my address in Norway gets wrongly sent to Australia. It's not because the address is lack luster or because there was anything wrong with it. I get the package several weeks too late, with a message on the top saying it was wrongly sent to Australia. The item inside the package is always broken. Like the disc cover has had a lot of weight on top of it is, so it has broken, but the discs are usually fine. Frustrating! :( I've also had missing packages before, once from my wife and once from an online store (which sent a free new one eventually). Oh, and packages that has taken over two months to be delivered, when only like 30 days was the max expected time. Oh, and of course used books that is said to be in the best possible state, which turns out to have lots of writing in them and on the page blank sides of the book, tearing on front, side and inside, stickers on the side and several places in the book (actually an old library book). :(

Pretty much the worst things that have happened are a game disc not working and one of my Virtual Boy's screens got screwy when it was being sent to me, even though the person sending it did a good job packing it. In both events I was able to get my money back and even a new Virtual Boy for no cost to replace the previous one from the sender.

There was one time that I bought a new record on eBay and the seller packaged it sandwiched in between two pieces of cardboard to try and support it. The only problem was the cardboard was half the size of a record! I bought Street Fighter 2 on PC Engine, just to have it come in an envelope bent and broken. I feel your pain Pat. The post office service here is fucking atrocious and over the years they have given me NOTHING but issues and fucking problems. They also gave away one of my packages once to a guy without him even having to show proof it was his. He just came and fucking took it and they let him. Took MONTHS of tracking him down, complaining my ass off and threatening to complain, to finally get them to call the guy, arrange him getting it from his locker at WORK, cause he took it there for some dumb fucking reason. Waiting weeks to get it back to post office, then they still want proof from me but not him? Then one of the next times I went in the future, they DEMANDED ID, PROOF, AND SIGNATURE FROM ME, and I couldn't get a package almost. I complained and told them that they once gave away one of my packages once with any ID or anything. I just remembered the time i bought a lot of games, i open the box and see the packing material is a pair of old dirty jeans that stunk to hell. lol

I bought a Neo Geo CD in the box on Ebay and when I got it in the mail the CD door was busted off. Both hinges were snapped off. I then bought a replacement door and the hinges were snapped on it too when it arrived. So, I ordered another one and told the seller to please use extra wrap and luckily it showed up intact. It was an ordeal to say the least.

I always et nervous when I order stuff from Japan/Hong Kong because most of the time packages dont have tracking or insurance. However I ordered Rockman X in the box, I didn't realise customs wasn't paid for so I asked the guy to mark the value down a bit on the form and he did - the package came in a large box, filled with newspaper and the box itself was wrapped in layers of bubble wrap. There was even a handwritten note from the guy saying thank you. I've also ordered comics online and they arrived no problems. The ONLY problem I have ever had was when my A-Level certificate came through the post, the package was horribly bent even though it had DO NOT BEND on the outside :L

work for UPS during the Christmas season(they will hire you guaranteed right now) and you will see how boxes end up they way they do. Also if its packed well your package will be fine. My advice is to transport things yourself if they are too valuable or use the post office. A lot problems come with how the sender packed the box

Not video game related, but just recently I got my pre-order package for the new Fallujah record "The Flesh Prevails", which included a bunch of stuff, but mainly a vinyl. Well, the vinyl arrived completely busted. Record bent beyond repair, jacket completely destroyed, and to top it all off they didn't even include the CD which I paid extra for. Horrible packing job, easily the worst I've ever seen for a record. It was like they just threw it in the box with no protection and sent it to me like that.

I've worked at Royal Mail and Hermes, and they hire a LOT of agency workers and they do not care at all. We had about 5 people get caught stealing crap from packages in one week. So yeah... it can be hard to trust sending expensive stuff through these sorta guys.

That sucks man, overall here in America the US Postal system is decent, but I have had a few bad experiences of packages not showing up on time, but it's usually the shippers fault, or the really weird round about way things get routed threw US Postal. But it does amaze me how stuff from China can get too me faster sometimes then stuff from California, and I'm on the east coast of the US lol!

Got my computer shipped here with FedEx, graphics card was half seated and hanging out in the case and multiple wires had been broken. Thankfully it only took a few hours and parts to fix but it still sucked.

My last story, I bought 2 Mario games off Ebay with boxes. The seller asked 'can I flatten the boxes to save you on shipping cost?' Yeah sure. So he sent them. Open it up, smells like ink. I instantly assume instruction booklet + box both smell like fresh ink. Games barely fit into the NES but look like NES games, the only problem is the screws are different. I haven't been on Ebay in 5 years until my gf wanted a Wii which after getting mailed 5 Wiis, 1 works and doesn't have a burnt out fan.

PAL CD games come in cases that are the worst usually break when shipped.

One time I ordered a game. When it arrived, I didn't find out for a while...Since the person that'd delivered it had just dumped it on my doorstep. Didn't even ring the doorbell or anything. So when I finally find it, the parcel was all wet because it'd been raining. Thankfully the game CD was protected, but it was still annoying. And anyone could have taken it while it was there.

When I was a kid I would do comic book subscriptions. One day I had a Factor-X (X-Factor during Age of Apocalypse) come in with a crease right down the middle as if someone folded it in half. That was my last subscription.

I bought a couple Sega Saturn long boxes games once. Every single jewel case cover was broken beyond repair. Now I have to try to track long boxes jewel covers to fix my problem.

Those things are notoriously easy to break. Your best bet is to find cheap saturn/sega cd games (usually sports titles) and just use the cases for those.

I ordered a Japanese Sega Saturn with plenty of games from Japan and when it got here the box was pretty much destroyed and nearly all the games were missing. Luckily the Saturn was intact and the seller was cool and sent me a new lot of games. Still, I've learned my lesson and I am never ordering anything big from Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if customs got a hold of it and did the damage.

i had my pc engine and express delivered in a box with no packaging at all it was lose in there and moving about a lot with a few other things.. some got smashed but the pc engine stuff survived.. ive also had consoles in boxes where they have taken out the polystyrene inserts so they can fit more in the box.. then they throw the polystyrene away.. some people are idiots. ive also had cds sent in a paper envelope.. no boxes just the cd. i have no idea how that didnt break

The Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB is a decent clone of the Technics SL-1200. Direct drive, takes the same cartridges, I'm not sure if it has the quartz lock though. I once bought a GameCube WaveBird controller from a seller on eBay, it was extremely well packed. Like, they absolutely went the extra mile and made sure it wouldn't be damaged. The eBay Global Shipping programme is what I have a real problem with. Pitney Bowes apparently sometimes completely re-pack items before they send them overseas, they remove padding and put the item in a smaller box. The item arrives beaten to crap and the seller can't do anything about it, and neither can the buyer.

Whenever you ship something, don't have the item unpacked at the postal office. Have it packed already and write "EXTREMELY FRAGILE GLASS" on it. They won't know unless they open it, plus not knowing what exactly is inside would not pique their interest. I did this and sold and received items in perfect condition. I once left my purse in another state when I visited family & I told them to do that and it arrived, with nothing taken from it, my wallet and everything still in there. Thankfully.

I had a terrible shipping experience with orion telescopes once. It took 3 weeks to get my money back after they delivered the package. I put my address down on the site to order and they sent a confirmation email with my address listed correctly. I tracked the thing for a week. It got to my post office and they sent it back without calling me due to an incorrect address. I sent them the email they sent me confirming I gave the correct address. It ended up in 3 weeks of freaking phone calls and emails from hell just to get a refund. Hate ordering anything online. I'll have my local store order for me if I have to but that's it.

I rarely get bad shipment. I had a horror story happened in the summer of 2005 when I had my bird in a cage near the front door outside sitting on the driveway in the shade 7 feet away from the mailbox. I was getting a drink of water in the kitchen when I heard the mailman talking to my bird in a very nice tone of voice. I rushed outside to see him talk to my bird and I saw the mailman getting ready to get his mace that was on his belt. The mailman saw me coming out and he took his hand off the mace bottle really quick. If I didn't go out there quick enough I think he was gonna mace him. My mind was shocked but I didn't say anything.

Probably my worst experience was with UPS. I ordered Logitech's z5500 5.1 speakers from Dell. They're really nice, powerful speakers and it cost about $400 retail(I think I got a deal, though). I'm home, don't get a knock, nothing. I check the tracking after a while and it says delivered. Called UPS, they stick by their delivered status and tell me to contact Dell. Lucky for me, Dell just sent me another one. Never knew what happened with the original. Second worst was probably FedEx. Probably my first big purchase as a working "adult", a big box of albums from CDNow. Again, I'm home and I don't hear anything, the guy left a notice. So, I have to drive to their stupid FedEx pickup place and I'm waiting maybe 15 minutes and I'm eavesdropping on a conversation happening in back where two guys can't decide what to do with a box. "I'm not taking that," I remember hearing. So then they just tell me that they sent my box to Oakland and to expect it back after the weekend. What the fuck.

I've ordered Green Arrow (Mike Grell run) comics through Amazon and never had any issues. Always had backing and whatnot. The only time I had an issue with bad mail was when I ordered the Saturn version of Hexen. When it finally arrived, it was the Playstation version. So I emailed the sender and he INSISTED that I ordered the PS version. I normally wouldn't make a big deal, but the PS version need AN ENTIRE MEMORY CARD TO ITSELF FOR SAVE FILES! God, that's worse than the 9 blocks Tecmo's Deception needs.

Never a problem - my local post office is pretty kick ass. On a side note anyone notice that Amazon has chinced out on its packaging materials for games? The used to send games in sturdy cardboard inserts. Nowadays the stuff comes in flimsy manilla envelopes. Seriously prime went up in price and Amazon went down in how they ship things...

Here's a story for you, work sent a check in an envelope instead of direct deposit. The letter was open as if the adhesive had ripped off. Check was still inside it. Made me worry.

I've had the old trick played on me of an eBay seller closing their account as soon as they've received my payment, therefore not being obliged to send me my item or having me open a case against them. I'm relatively lucky in that it was only a £4 Game Gear game but the thought of it still pisses me off a bit.

buying comics online has been hit and miss with me. it also depends on what carrier it is. I buy to read though not to collect so i could honestly care less if one of the corners gets a little damage in shipping or if it doesnt come in perfect condition

One time, I got a R4 for my DS... It came on an envelope. The cart was missing and the envelope/game box was ripped. I was in fear... Turns out that I got a refund from the seller and got another one.

I ordered a 100+ usd head set and it was sent in super thin paper with no bubble wrap or box. it was just headphones wrapped in tissue paper. Luckily they weren't damaged but I was pissed.
