I'm an American that lived in Kazakhstan for a year. More civil, safe, and moderate than anything I've ever experienced in the states. Most people drink in moderation and I saw less hijabs than I did in my neck of the woods in Ohio. One would assume that it's not a very religious country, but on the contrary, it is far more religious than America. They just practice Islam a bit differently. One of the most mind bending experiences was landing in their Caspian seaport of Aktau. Everyone was dressed like 1930s depression era Kansas. Women in dresses similar to what my great grandmother wore and men unironically sporting peaky blinders hats. More pickup trucks than the other cities in the country. But lots of camels and Persian rugs. I absolutely love the country with all my heart and If I could eventually work remotely for an American firm, I would move back in a heartbeat!

Most likely, Aktau is a provincial city. You should have visited Astana and Almaty. The scene there is completely different. People are very progressive, stylish, and educated. There is no religious influence, and the reason they practice Islam "differently" is because, for them, religion is like Christianity for an American - just a matter of respect for history. Kazakhstan has always been an atheistic country, and only in the last 5 years have discussions about religion begun, somehow integrating it into daily life. But I agree that in provincial cities, the situation is different

Even though I'm French, my opinion was the same as you, and likely still is. I highly advise Samarkand in Uzbekistan if you're into history. If you like futuristic cities, Astana in Kazakhstan is THE place to go! Tashkent in Uzbekistan is interesting capital, it's busy but safe, and its metro should really be visited. Almaty in Kazakhstan also has a nice metro and amazing mountains.

I guess each country has its own strength and weakness but potentially Kazakhstan is with the brightest future because it is huge and with a lot of resources. The problem with Kazakhstan is that its economy and internal politics are driven by corruptive interests. If they fight corruption successfully, they can build very attractive country. All these countries are great, they potential to grow is huge. It depends only on how these countries will use their institutional, cultural and human resources for the development of civil society, democracy, progressive knowledge and technology. From my point of view, Kazakhstan has achieved much more in terms of economic and civic fundamentals to become a well-developed country. The Kazakh people, I used to work with, had very good western style education, work skills and progressive mindset. Almaty is the best city in the region and has all you need what many western mega cities offer, like good restaurants, cafeterias, retail shops, wellness and gym clubs. The only complaint is the airport and public transports, taxies. The overall experience was excellent and we will definitely consider doing business in this beautiful country. I would like to visit the Silk Road cities of Bukhara, Khiva, Samarkhand and Tashkent. I have read so much about those cities. They were parts of various empires. I am particularly interested in seeing the Gur i Amir where Tamerlane and his grandson Ulugh Beg ars buried.

Yeah, Uzbekistan is not as modern as 🇦🇿, 🇰🇿 or 🇬🇪 , but without any doubt Registan is the most precious gem along the Great Silk Road, located in the very heart of the ancient city of Samarkand. Restored thanks to meticulous work of work of hundreds of restorers, this sight can claim - in my opinion - to be in the top ten list of the wonders of the world. Or Shah-i-zinda . Meaning of Shah-I-Zinda is Tomb of the Living King, and the structures with amazing colourful domes, intricate windows, finest glazed tilework, is a must see for any traveller visiting Samarkhand. Most sacred Tomb is that of Qusum ibn Abbas, a cousin of Prophet Mohammad, who brought Islam to Central Asia during 7th century. And I'm talking about just one city, about Samarkand. You are all welcome to Uzbekistan at any time, but for best experience, its advisable to visit in Spring! I feel really grateful for it's peace and quite, and for growing up here without knowing what War looks like. Come, visit, and see all the historical, nature, cousine beauty with your own eyes.

Greetings from Kazakhstan! All Central Asian and Caucasian countries are worth visiting. These countries are not about hotels, beaches and luxuripus lifestyle (although they have) but about local cuisine, unique music and culture, theatres and arts, nature and tracking. Almost all of them have good interconnectivity and visa free for EU, North America and East Asian countries. I travel almost weekly between Astana-Almaty-Tashkent-Baku-Bishkek-Dushanbe, having morning Azeri Chai with baklava, noon Uzbek Palau and evening Beshbarmak in Bishkek or Almaty.

I moved to Georgia 10 years ago from the US and would never consider moving back, or anywhere else for that matter. The details here on Georgia are accurate other than about the political situation. There are no pro-Russian parties in government or people, that's an unfair criticism from pro-Western camps about people who want to pursue a balanced political and economic strategy. The fact that 20% of the country is occupied by Russia and was attacked multiple times in 30 years proves that nobody can be pro Russian in any sense here. Totally true about safety and the almost complete lack of corruption. That being said, I agree that Kazakhstan has huge economic potential but Georgia is at the crosswords of the world, with Asia to the east and Europe to the west. Simple geography and global sea access gives huge potential especially with an incomparably rich, proud, and self-aware culture and society.

Working locally with a local salary, while possible as this is not a poor country per se, is unrealistic for the majority of potential immigrants. I did live and work locally for a few years when I first came, but yeah it requires the forfeiture of certain comforts and habits that most from the West are accustomed too.

Azerbaijan got both Grand and Minor Caucasus mountains, Talysh mountains and numerous mountain chains in the Nakhchievan Autonomous Republic

I would argue that reliance on natural resources export by a big companies is even a bigger problem. It makes small and medium business and most of the citizens irrelevant to the state, it's always easier to deal with a close circle of powerful people in person. Don't know an easy way out, probably education eventually helps
