We were expected to win 4 or 5 games. BYU has far outdone what we all thought. We beat Utah, we are 9-2. I was devastated with the loss but woke up today and thought if we can get seasons like this every year(being a contender in Big 12 champ ) I will be happy. Hopefully we go 10-2, and I get to keep seeing and watching games like this with my boys. Go cougs and finish strong this year.

You are right. After the SMU game I gave them maybe 3 more wins. They rattled off 7. I should just be happy with the way this season has gone. It's been fun, and to see how close they are to being 11-0 right now is incredible. Missed extra points and 2-point conversations were the difference. That defense is good enough to get them a national championship if only their offense can get their stuff together.
@matthewlaird5235Ай бұрын
The only reason the game was even close was Kenny Dillingham was an idiot. I was yelling at the T.V. Take the 3 points! And not handing it of to Scattebo and going for a TD, our coach tried his best to give you that game. ASU punted one time the entire game, it felt like ASU could do what ever it wanted on offense.
@stresxkid_Ай бұрын
I agree with point as I was at the game and YELLING why we didn't take the points, but his post-game conference explained why he did it. It still would be a 3 score game and he was banking that BYU won't make the come back and well, they kind of did. Just shows a little bit of immaturity on Kenny's decision making...my only true criticism this year to be honest. Also, Skattebo...my dawg...if you have a true-breed mustang and he's running like madman, keep feeding him the ball until they can stop him lol.
@elche1976Ай бұрын
This. ASU has done* this several times this season. He doesn't care about style points. More about just giving the other team less chances or time to get back* in it... which ironically usually lets them back in it. ASU had them locked up on offense and defense in the first. First drive of the second, byu has no answers. So they just stop hammering it down and they go into a zone prevent and byu suddenly comes to life. Play the entire game life the first instead of changing and its a comfortable win.

I’m so tired of these late season collapses. Each of the last three season BYU football loses focus and drops winnable games. I love Kalani but he has a serious problem keeping his players focused. I don’t understand how when you literally have everything to play for you have a bad week of practice and lay an egg at home. Then follow that up with just straight up not showing up for the first half of one of the biggest games BYU has played in years. If you listen to the post game press conference, Kalani sounds like a coach that just doesn’t have answers…much like the end of the last couple seasons. Really disappointed.
@SarahFearnley958Ай бұрын
How does the team just not show up for the two biggest games of the season?! It’s so frustrating to watch them do this every year. Losing while playing your best is one thing, but not bothering to show up for the entire 4 quarters of a game is another. BYU just seems to start coasting on autopilot about halfway through the season for some reason.
@ThereelBRАй бұрын
Im being hard on ARod and Retzlaff because I stongly believe that if BYU doesn't upgrade (even moderately) at those two spots then this is the best you'll possibly get. But, lets not give Jay Hill a pass in thia one. Hes gameplan was garbage, no way ASU should have scored 21 in the first half.

Jake - Did Sitake really say that the refs called an unsportsmanlike penalty on the last second only to have the conference say the penalty would not be enforced? Is this common that the conference has input in real time??? Sitake referenced it in his postgame remarks but I may not be following what he said. I am so tired of BYU falling apart at the end of the season. Seemed like no focus for the first half. Why can’t the coaches makes changes, adjustments during the play and only at the half ? It seems like we are out coached regularly in these games. Why do our player report that the competition made charges that we couldn’t adjust to ? Why didn’t we come up with adjustments that other teams have to adjust to? Out coached!1

It starts with the line play. First half we had no push on offense or defense. Especially when they’ve got a guy like Cam Skattebo, if the line gets a two yard push and he falls forward for three, that’s close to an automatic 5-yard play, and BYU couldn’t stop it. Meanwhile, LJ’s getting hit in the backfield. Jake’s right, it’s a game of inches.

This was the 5th game where the defense forced just 1 punt. Over half of forced punts this season came against Wyoming and Southern Illinois and Utah bottom 100 offenses. Pointed out several times throughout the season how dealing on turnovers is not sustainable. As detrimental as BYU’s third down conversion rate on offense has been… it has been equally bad on the defensive end, especially on third and long. Our defensive line has very little depth and has worn down over the season. With most of those dudes graduating expect that to be the main focus of the transfer portal. In fact both sides of line will be emphasized in the portal.
@malaw514Ай бұрын
Can’t stand my fellow BYU fans at this point. Calling for jobs, and transfers. Can we talk Arod and what he has done? Zach Wilson and Jaren Hall are in the NFL in large part because of AROD, he’s taken a Juco transfer qb who was projected as the worst qb in the big 12 and is now considered top 3 and is top 5 in yards, touchdowns etc. Arod went through the first third of the season without his top 3 running backs… ran an offense with a gimmick running game. BYU has spent most of the season as top 2 in the big 12 in points per game. Who the hell are you hiring? And assuming they are better and more talented who the hell would take an OC job after a dude gets fired after a 10 win season? The level of assistant y’all asking for would have options, and it wouldn’t be here. Guess what BYU has the 5th ranked recruiting class in the big 12. Utah is 12th by the way… what side of the ball are the studs in that class and recent classes playing? Two 4 stars on the Oline… WR… our last classes have had studs TE. Guess what happens when coordinators leave… you loose recruits. Who the hell is walking through that door? Hopefully someone who will smack some sense into this goddamn entitled community. Disgusting. Sitaki is a freaking Saint for putting up with this shit.

Let's be honest here Jake. BYU despite having played few complete games this year was sitting at #6 and in full control of their destiny. 2 chokes and they are about to lose their last 4 games of the season if they don't get their act together. The OLine rebounded briefly under Mitchell but we are back to a hapless OLine that can't run block and struggles to block three while the opponent drops 8...

Why doesn’t BYU’s Aaron Roderick understand that coming out strong “like you’re losing” in the first half? There just seems to be no killer instinct by putting on a full throttle offense starting with the first set of downs. Like I said in my last post….you gotta score 35 points, in most cases, to win games and win them big. Take some of that pressure off on your D and play the game from the first play like you are a rabid cornered cougar.

Has BYU played a full game yet this season? At some point you have to look at coaches who are not picking the right players that can execute for a full game, or are not preparing a game plan to put the players in a good position to succeed. It’s sad the defense has kept the team in every game, even with injuries yet the team is in their yearly Kalani-era collapse. This team needs some major offensive changes. And dude, I’m pretty sure Retzlaff’s mistakes lost the game no matter what PFF says. Reltzlaff is statistically good with no pressure, and one of the worst in CFB with pressure. He was so inaccurate today, and worse couldn’t move the chains for an entire half, while throwing into 3rd and 9 double covered post routes with a wide open running back standing at the chains. And who is responsible for calling the post route on the first play from scrimmage in every game? It was awesome when it worked at Baylor months ago but every person on the planet is expecting it and it’s probably going to be covered. 😂
