I had left side neglect when I had my stroke. When I was in the inpatient rehab anytime I had a visitor I made them sit on my left side. It forced me to turn my head and focus in that direction. I don’t know if that would help anybody else but it definitely helped me. Another great video as always

My dad shared your last video with me. I take care of my mother who had two strokes. Thank you for sharing these with us all. We can't afford in home assistance but now I feel a little less useless trying to help her.

@facelift, I'm so glad you're finding my videos helpful. That's one of the whole reasons I started this channel. Too many people don't have access to care that they need. I hope you and your parents are all doing well. Please take care ❤️

Yes please. A video on this would be good. I had a stroke in 2019 and have received very poor treatment/therapy and physical therapy afterward.

As a COTA I find your information so helpful for ideas to give my patients in home health. Thank you!

@madeleinemorgan, Thanks so much for your kind words! I've worked in a variety of settings, but I love home health. I like finding interventions that can be used for a low cost and with little equipment :)

I do believe I hit the jackpot on helping my husband with his spatial problem! He started doing some of this on his own as soon as he got home. It has been a month and home help cannot be found. I am afraid that private home help will be unaffordable for us. I will start with these ideas and find more as time goes by. Thank you so much!

One exercise my therapist got me to do for left neglect was during my daily walks in the hallways , I had to look straight ahead and point out where all the light switches were on the walls

I need your help. I enjoy your videos. I’m in a nursing home. I get only 20 minutes a day PT on my arm which I have kept it flexible the problem is. No one‘s helping me with walking, but I have done exercises. Thanks to you and I can get in and out of the bedand staying at the toilet are there any other exercises I can do my leg wants to turn out I don’t have drop foot I’m hoping to go to a stroke clinic in a few months stroke victim should never be sent to a nursing home. There’s no hope here.

My neglect comes when I try to find something I know should be there. Like trying to find things in tnr pantry. Sometimes having to look, search again. The finding it on a successive try.

@stephenardent, Yes, there are varying types and severities of neglect. It can impact people differently!

When I was in the hospital the nurses had to make signs on bright Bristol board in the hall to let me know where my room was. I kept going by it on my left side, is this the same thing
@PostStrokeOrg2 жыл бұрын
@stevekierstead, It certainly sounds like it to me. Sometimes people can have varying types and levels of neglect. It is considered inattention if it isn't too severe, but some people literally neglect one side of their body. They don't even think that their arm is theirs. So you may have been somewhere on the neglect/inattention spectrum!

PLEASE, just look at an object, pictures, letters & alphabet, immediately starting the program. Usually with aphasia, if you see a video and you’re just talking, I would skip the video, because I didn’t understand what you ask me. It feels like you have nonsense words. The objects were much later than you realized. 😢
