This is my third time watching it. I believe this is my favorite video I have ever seen on KZbin. The Super O is beautiful. It looks brand new. Mike Spanier would be proud. I only have Post War and it sounds beautiful. No animated sound. The Space Age area is beautiful. I hope to get an area like this on my layout. Finally, some cool Super “0” stuff. My friend Harris “Mike” Spanier was a big time Super “0” trader in the TCA HQ News. Many times he would send me a big box of 112s to refurbish and/or repair. He also supplied track for the large green “Lionel” bridge layouts. Unfortunately, he has passed on.

FYI ..I have re bent super O curves to 072 , really looks nice , and runs fantastic.. Super O is a little tricky to assemble But if you work with it ..get the bus bar connectors flat.. it's great.

I am a man in hi s50s who has an admiration for all train modelers. I don't; have the patience or artistic ability to reach the heights of those modelers which make life-like, highly detailed models. I appreciate them greatly. Happy to subscribe. I was happy to find this channel as it shares a love for trains and the layout is more doable for a regular person who just enjoys trains. Please don't take my words as any insult to your work here. The detail is far above what I can hope to achieve but this layout looks more like it is meant to run for fun and not just to set a certain time or place. Good old fun is what I prefer. THIS is a phenomenal layout, combining the best aspects of 2 of "old Lionel's" stellar Display Layouts, Super O track and great little dioramas: the coal section, the lumber section, the space section, and the train store mock-up !! And HOW can you NOT really get off on the elevated highway ! Lionel had SO many great concepts in their 1950s Display Layouts that none of us have ever seen, other than mere pictures or sketches !! I just LOVE it. GENIUS idea for pull-out rolling shelf units, disguised as ordinary nondescript under-layout storage! Also a VERY nice assortment of locos and rolling stock. This is the direction the O-gauge train world SHOULD have gone after 1957, instead of chasing HO (ho ho ho) trains, race car sets and science labs... what SHOULD have happened if the toy market hadn't changed so much, with Lionel perched to do a death-spiral, after Josh retired. (Oh, the "What Ifs" !!) You hit a grand-slam with this layout, Brian. And thanks for a lot of nice videos that preceded this one.

Really appreciate the comment. I still have a lot of work to do on the layout. Having modeled the layout after postwar Dealer displays really came out well. The Elevated highway is such a fun aspect of the layout. Yes, Lionel in the 60's was in turmoil, mostly because of inconstant leadership with no vision and the rapidly changing toy market. They did try some pretty cool stuff, but too little too late. Still love them!. Plan on an episode just on the highway contraction soon. Thanks, Brian

@@BriansTrainRoom The Super O track must have been a pain to work with, and it's a bit pricey --- but SO MUCH better looking than anything since, IMHO. If you study the company's history, the idea for a more realistic looking 3-rail track started years earlier, but just never was approved. By '57-'58, the established base of tubular was so ubiquitous that it was difficult getting a new "standard" started. Your layout is right up there with the 1957 Catalog layout (back cover) which is a benchmark in itself !

So cool, Brian! You have one fantastic layout, for sure. I really liked the GoPro view and all of the classic, 1950's trains and accessories. The highway is a real neat feature of the layout. It would be interesting to see how you keep the tension on the drive. Similar to a chair-lift, I would suppose. I thought about doing a recreation of the post-war showroom layout, but my neighbor, who I bought the house from, subdivided the basement. It has the length, but not the width. Great video Brian, love your layout. I think super 0 track was a fantastic track system. I have number of straights but no curves. Only if super 0 came in 0-72. It’s a dream. Currently using fastrack but would switch over in a minute if 0-72 curves were available. Keep em coming.

Yes, Super O does have its downsides. (The switches are finicky ). There is a guy who will stretch out super O track and make large radius curves. Newer tried it, but that would have been super helpful. Thanks Brian.

Thanks. Took some engineering to make it happen. So, first under the roadbed is a continuous loop of round conveyer belt on pulleys. Then I put a nail into the belt that hooks onto the car and pulls it along. Every once in a while car jumps the track, but seems to work well. The cars are mostly Midgetoy, lightweight, but not too light. Plan setting up a Website to compliment the channel in 2025, will post photos then. Hope that gives you a start. Brian

Hello Brian. A very enjoyable vid. Some silly questions and obeservations. . Have you ever attempted to have your little midg truck on the elivated highway pull one of your piggyback tailers while it was going around the display? I also wondered do you have a remote top side switch for the drill or do you have to crawl under and pull the drill trigger? The go pro trip is a handy way to locate lost logs and other loads. I do like your posts as the post war stuff is what I run. I have attmepted to limit myself to running stock that can navagate 0-27 trunouts. Keep em comming.

Thanks and great suggestions. The Midgetoy truck can't pull a trailer because of the way they get turned around. The trailer would go flying!! The drill is direct wired to a DC transformer that I can turn on and control the voltage to. I do have to turn it on from under the layout, mostly since I don't like having the transformer plugged in all the time. Yes, Go pro's are a cool view and help find stuff!. Brian

So, super simple. They are the Saunder Cabinet from like Lowes or Home Depot with sliders on the base. Very simple. Been using then for years, Then built the table around them so they fit in perfectly. Thanks. Brian

Those are the O27 passenger cars. 2400, 2401 and 2402, 2403. From 1948. You can find them on E-bay, trains shows or check Trainz.com. Really nice looking cars!. B
