I fed my starter after removing from the fridge because i was going to bake with it the next morning. I left on counter but noticed it had a thin line of active or bubbles at the top but a lot of volcanic like activity at the bottom. Can I use this this morning or do I have to feed again and wait another day or so?

After putting the starter in the refrigerator, do you put the lid on loosely or do you go ahead and tighten it all the way thank you so much. This is such a great video.❤️

I am so happy I found your channel 😊 I started a Sourdough starter last year 9/2023 and I have made some wonderful recipes with it. I will definitely start a potatoe flake starter, this is so new to me. Your recipes with this starter look absolutely delicious. Thank you for all this great information 😊 New subscriber here 😊

Hello, I accidentally added the whole packet of yeast which is about 2 teaspoons to my potato flake sourdough bread starter when I was feeding it. How do I fix it or do I need to throw away?
@LittleTennesseeHome4 ай бұрын
It should be fine, just continue feeding as normal

I'm wondering how to grow my starter to use on a big bake day. So you said a bigger batch of starter needs to b fed more...so if I have a quart of starter should I feed it 2 c water 6 tbsp potato flake and 1 and 1/2 sugar??
@LittleTennesseeHome7 ай бұрын
If you have a quart, that would be 4 cups of starter. To feed it proportionally you would feed it 4 cups of water, 9 T potato flake, 3 cups of sugar. That’s a lot of starter! But would allow you to bake around 7-8 batches of bread for a recipe that calls for 1 cup of starter per batch. Hope this helps ☺️

Yes that helps/makes sense. Thank you so much!

Thank you for sharing your video...I love your calm voice and simple explanation. I still have one question please...when ready to bake a loaf of bread, i will use 1 cup of starter in the recipe...do I feed right before removing the 1 cup from the jar or just remove the 1 cup and proceed with the recipe? Thank you!

Great question. You’ll remove one cup of starter that’s been fed and has sat for about 8 hours. Give or take. Use that cup in your recipe. Feed again before you’d like to bake again 😊

Hi new to sourdough!! So the foam that creates on the top, is that what you use as you 1 cup of starter or do you mix the whole thing and then take one cup from that to bake with? Is the foam just a chemical reaction that occurs?
@LittleTennesseeHome7 ай бұрын
Mix and then remove your one cup for baking. 😊 the foam occurs from the feeding process in the starter.

Do you stir the ready to use Active starter together (since it separates into liquid and foam) or do you use the foam part only? I have an active potatoes starter I fed this AM and nervous to use it wrong in a recipe
@LittleTennesseeHome9 ай бұрын
Stir together, then use in your recipe 😊

Does this much sugar make the bread sweet? I don’t like sweet bread. Yours looks so good.
@LittleTennesseeHome9 ай бұрын
The bread is sweeter than a traditional sourdough bread but I’ve actually made loaves without any sugar except what’s in the starter, and it was just a tiny hint of sweetness.

I know tap water has chemicals in it so I heard to use well water filter water or store bought water

I haven’t had any issues with it. But I guess it could depend on where you live.

I have made that bread for years with potato starter this was the first bread I ever made they also call it friend ship bread

That’s awesome! I love this type of starter. I thought friendship bread starters also had flour in them?

I have a question. We eat sourdough bread because it is good for diabetics. I have heard the reason diabetics can eat it is because the starter going through it's process eats up the sugars. I'm talking about a regular flour and water starter. I have used the potato flake starter many years ago before we were diabetics and we loved it. My question is: Does this sugar and potato flake starter do the same thing to make it good for diabetics? i mean, there is so much sugar in it plus potatoes. Does it still break down/eat up the sugar when it is fermenting/bubbling?
@LittleTennesseeHome9 ай бұрын
I can’t say for certain, as I haven’t done extensive research, but I do know it ferments the sugar and potato flakes. If you were to make the bread recipe I would omit or reduce the amount of sugar in the actual recipe.
