@@7hoopdawg hey Tim!! My mom did the same thing as we were growing up snd then over the years, I had been trying to get her recipes and over the last year or so, her potato soup recipe was one I’ve been having a craving for but I kept forgetting to ask her for the recipe and I’m may she got her vaccine and a week after she had the second dose she went downhill over night. She lost her battle to what was supposed to protect her June 28th and we laid her to rest July 3rd. I never did get my tater soup recipe or her cabbage rolls recipe that was the best in the world, and I’m sure there’s more that will pop up as time goes and it’s just me that I’m cooking for so this is perfect for me. This recipe looks a lot like what mom made, but i think her recipe was milk based, not water, I swear she used milk which is probly why I’ve never found a bowl of tater soup that ever remotely tasted as good as hers. I’ll try this recipe but swap milk for the water and see what I get, never know buddy! I’m just north of ya a bit up here in NC. I can’t wait to try this recipe, I’ve been wanting a bowl of moms tater soup for a good while now! Take care my friend and be safe out there!

Cat from Canada. Lately, I've been tiring of the bourgeoise food I've loved and grown accustomed to eating, mainly because the ingredients are harder to find now because of covid. Also, they tend to be complicated and though healthy and tasty, just not "soul-satisfying." How I found you, I'll never know, but am so thankful I did! You are so real... so down to earth, I just wish we were neighbors! Thank you so much for all you do here, you are such a refreshing Light! I am excited to make this soup, cornbread & salad for tonight's meal. Stay blessed.

Looks lovely! You’re absolutely right about MSG’s, here in the U.K. it’s in nearly all Chinese takeaways; it amazes me ppl are so unaware of the impact it has on the body. If I do eat something with it in without realising I always end up with a migraine and need pints of water to drink straight away afterwards!

Brings back memories of my grandma. She made potato soup one day, then bean soup next day, till Sunday had chicken and pork chops. Made homemade bread every other day.

Thank you for this. You have made this soup just like my grandma, except instead of carrots, she used Celery. But all the other recipes call for something to thicken it when you don't need to. And you don't need canned or any kind of broth. Ilove your recipes.

My mother makes this basic style potato soup. I grew up on this and it was yummy! She said the loaded potato soups are too heavy and rich. She added red pepper flakes for a little heat. Love your channel!

I live in northern Canada and we get snowed in a lot. I make potato soup from frozen hash browns which I can get really cheap in the fall I stock up for the winter. There's nothing like a hot soup when the elements are tough

I also tried the “quick” hash browns instead of real grated potatoes. It cooks faster but I needed more hash browns to thicken my soup and honestly the flavor was not the same

I use leeks and onions both in mine. I, also, use half & half, chicken broth, 2 types of cheeses, cubed ham and crisp bacon. The spices and herbs I use are crushed garlic, thyme, parsley, herb de provence, taragon, and garlic & onion crystals. Mine is amazing!

My grandma made "depression soup" which my siblings and I just loved on a cold winters night. Grandma used her leftover bacon grease as the base. She fried up her onions in the grease first. Then she added her potatoes and water. At the end she put cooked elbow macaroni to stretch the soup and thicken it up. It is fun to make the old recipes and they're so comforting during difficult times. God bless each of you and God bless America.

I was raised on cornbread and milk here in South Carolina. I still like it and sometimes I have it for my supper. I like cornbread and sweet milk but with buttermilk is my favorite. Not fat free milk but whole buttermilk. I put salt and pepper in mine and eat raw onion with it. I usually put a good bit of pepper . It is soooo good.

My grandmother's lived too far away to teach me anything. Mom said kids of any age didn't belong in the kitchen. So I taught myself using the oldest cookbooks I could find. I once had one from 1849 it had some of the best recipes I ever tried in it. Love those old recipes that call for almost nothing but have tons of flavor and texture.

Good word on the MSG. That stuff was exposed more than 25 years ago with some at least three hour-long TV programs. Asian restaurants quit using it and put signs up stating "No MSG." Your tater soup sure looks good.

When I was a kid, my sisters and I came home for lunch every day. We only had 45 minutes so my mom had to have lunch ready when we arrived. She made potato soup all the time in the winter. He recipe was simple, potatoes peeled and cooked with onions, sometimes celery, sometimes carrots but we preferred just the onions. She would rice everything, add butter, milk, cream if she had it, salt and pepper and she served it with a bit of butter melting in the middle. We loved it. I made it for my kids and they still make it for my grandkids.

Growing up potato soup was our "sick day soup". Plenty of vitamins, potassium, calcium and protein to make a sick kid live thru whatever bug had gotten them. When we were all well and healthy, we got the potato soup also, but with either ham or bacon. After over 70 years it's still one of my favorites. 😊
