I think rolling heroes till you find Sinbad is probably optimal as long as you have a coastal city. The amount of gold he generates in the ancient and classical age is broken.
@stormrider1049
@stormrider1049 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sidnv nah, in deity it’s either you’re building an army or infrastructure early. If you roll a good hero, then naturally stop by. I’m currently playing a game w/ Australia memeing as usual. Aka building wonders and trying to soak up as many heroes as possible, the ones that appear to me naturally that is. Due to production costs of my hubris, can’t exactly afford to roll the lottery. I do have Sinbad in Medieval Era, and he’s still real good going into the next. Any lower difficulties, sure, roll til you find Hercules or Sinbad. Personally, there’s infinitely better things to do than read a tale, even when you’re memeing.
@Sidnv
@Sidnv 2 жыл бұрын
@@stormrider1049 I play exclusively deity and Sinbad is still gamebreaking. If you have any space to greed, it's absolutely worth greeding heroes over other infrastructure, they pay themselves back manifold. The returns you get from Sinbad, Himiko, Hercules and Anansi are more than any other infrastructural expenditure. If I don't have to build an army and have reasonable expanding space, then I will get one or two settlers and just spam till I find one of the gamebreaking heroes, preferably Sinbad. Early game is all about expansion, culture, golden age and faith if you can get it. Hercules will probably win you a war on his own and finish three districts, which guarantee golden age. Anansi gets you to Political Philosophy asap, which is the most important infrastructural landmark in the early game, since it gets you to the Ancestral Hall and better production via policy cards. Himiko buys you envoys, and more importantly, faith, which turns into crazy monumentality in classical. She also acts as a super general if you need her. And Sinbad just gets you 6 settlers in monumentality. The only reason to not greed for one of these four is an early war. Horse rushes are still strong and not getting rolled by a close neighbor is important. Wonders, on the other hand, are basically never worth it early. Districts, aside from ones with big adjacency, don't do that much for you early either. It's all about expansion, which the top heroes do better for you than anything else in the game. If you're also playing with Barbarian clans, you never have to worry about military either. It's not worth producing them for the most part, you just buy the barbarian offerings. Pillaging the clans gets you enough gold to keep doing this and buying is much more efficient than production before you've unlocked the policy cards.
@stormrider1049
@stormrider1049 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sidnv …and if you do exclusively play deity, then you know that consistency is worth more than variance. I cannot imagine how much you have to reroll (starts and heroes) before you’re satisfied otherwise. Edit: also, you keep mentioning golden ages too… like really? Classical is tight, and the only Civ I’ve found to consistently get those independent of luck is Russia. Cuz they’re busted. All you’ve said still talks about perfect luck, landing on those specific heroes. More often than not, you will be sitting duck sifting through heroic tales if you’re not just playing the game normally and going from there. I’ve only seen Potato go through heroic tales if he’s alone, wants to meme, or after he has infrastructure. And clans is also RNG. Sometimes they don’t spawn near you, near enough for you to raid without someone else clearing, or they just give you the opposite of what you need in a sea or land locked game. Also 30 gold is not going to compensate for a bad tale run. My point is, I’m not arguing that heroes aren’t game breaking, as you mainly explained how to use them like I couldn’t figure that out. I’m saying, that on average, good deity players know to play the game and win normally rather than rely on luck. I’ve never gotten Hercules in my science wins for example, but I’m not going to be zealous and waste my time ~8 turning a tale or more when I could’ve gotten a scout to stumble on that naturally. If I did get lucky, then the potential # of turns gambling is converted into actually getting a monument and hero and THEN you really start break the game. But you should be doing that already without fishing in the lottery, heroes are just a nice bonus. So no, it’s not “optimal” until you roll for Sinbad… and yes I noticed you moved the goalpost. Only Sinbad and Hercules are worth any tales and even then just do something else. Besides, fucking monopolies are the real game breaking hero.

@gumbycat5226
@gumbycat5226 2 жыл бұрын
Not to be critical but you can see that Potato didn't really prioritise religion in this game. He had no choice but to go for Pottery first, but then he also delayed by building a monument. He then spent 5 turns building a shrine (1 great prophet a turn thereafter) instead of 6 turns for +24 GP points. It would have been possible to have had one of the first 2 religions in this game. That would have been Feed The World or Choral Music. I find that the AI chooses either of these as its first, at about 50-50. Not sure what you mean by the Adjacency Pantheon. Other than that I have had all of the bonuses you say are unobtainable on deity. It is rare that I don't get one of Feed The World or Choral Music because religion is usually my #1 priority in the early game - creates cascading golden ages and so, so many mid and late game bonuses. Stonehenge and Great Bath are possible, depending on the map (in one of my last games I built Great Bath in Renaissance because nobody else could build it). I always play Large maps which means lots of competitors (and impossible to get domination victory - closest I ever came was with Byzantium but was foiled on the "second last" turn when I conquered a city and that gave me a religious victory). The real magic with religion starts with one or more of the 3 golden ages that have Monumentality, like Potato got here - the number of faith-bought settlers can be 20 or more - I often have 2 of these golden ages and sometimes all 3. If you have Feed the World, holy site is essentially free (because pop grows so quickly) and always the first district to build. Imagine the faith, for any purpose, with this scenario... Get that Faith governor and you'll be buying districts with faith left right and centre; get that Faith government plaza building and all units will be faith purchased - and much cheaper than gold purchased; and the faith purchases of great people and and

Between multiplayer and single-player campaign, I will watch a single-player campaign every time. 1. Bite-sized episodes now that I have RL obligations. 2. Commentary. 3. No chat/no trashtalk. 4. Satisfaction of seeing a game through from the very beginning to the very end. There's nothing like early-game gameplay when it comes to Civ.

Idk if this is a good idea but have you ever thought of doing a 1v1 game session with an ai him having in your opinion the best civ and yours the worst on the worst difficulty and whatever other settings you’d feel were appropriate?

there is a option in the keyboard settings when you install the detailed map tacks mod, you have to assign a button, for example in my game, Z is to place pins, and X is to hide them

I disagree with "better single gameplay". If anything, I want to see the games that fail. The games that you go for memes but end up on the back foot. Games where you try to win by points.

I've beat the game on diety before but watching stuff like this where your thought process is explained explains a lot as to why I can barely beat deity and you seem to beat it every time, almost every time? So much stuff in the future planning that just never crosses my mind or even where to settle, like I'd see a natural wonder and always settle it first regardless of what's around me though I can see how that isn't always the best move

Funny thing, Koibu got me into D&D YEARS ago, but I stopped watching due to never having time and forgot about him. My life is a lot more chill now and then you start talking about him running a game for you in your birthday live stream and I'm right back in his DM clutches! Thanks for that and for dope civ videos!

Super excited to watch this game!! very cool layout. You have a very good campus by yosemite. maybe do a pingala city with mausoleum :) Also if it's not too late you should switch the aqueduct and holy site in your northern most city. You made placement decisions around gov plaza which has now been moved
