Potensic Atom Firmware Update - June 2024 - Full Test Flight

The Potensic Atom recently received a firmware update. I updated the drone, and took it out for a test flight at Julius Kleiner Park. The little Sub-250g drone is fun to fly!

Mine that is this model does great out at our land. I can go very far with it. I think city/town environments have much more obstacles and wireless interference. Nice video sir!

Hi Steve, Do you ever fly around Lewisham way? I've been looking for a drone for a long time, but couldn't really stomach the DJI prices! Would love to see one of these in the flesh (and check on a few features that aren't discussed much...namely locking the exposure/white balance on video recording and checking WiFi stability in urban areas)

@@LaurenceLDN Hi Laurence. No, I've never flown around busy areas, but did fly at Beckenham Place Park a few times. Norman's Park and a few places near me a few times. The Potensic Atom 3 axis gimbal is a very capable drone and much cleaper than the DJI 3 and a great drone to start with. I'm finding it a great introduction to the hobby and still have more to learn when flying it...but great fun and come autumn, I'll be looking at getting some great video of the changing of the colours. It does have limitations on connection...same as any other drone, but height is might for where you control it from. Hope that answers any questions you have buddy. Best wishes

@@stevetaylor8446 thanks for the reply. I managed to get a DJI Mini 3 for £259 from Very - so the Atom is off my radar for now. I may end up regretting that as the Atom doesn't have geo restrictions. But good to hear your insight about where you have flown & pleased that it is working out for you!

Thanks for your video, I always enjoy the different drones and your narrative. I do have a comment on your criticism of UAV Forecast. You said in the beginning of your video how inaccurate the program was at the time. I was just as critical as you when I first started using the program, but then I realized that it is all in the name, "Forecast". It's not to tell you what the wind is at the time, you can see that already, but it is a forecast of what the wind may or will be. True to it's name I noticed by the end of your video, the wind was blowing much stronger, exactly what it had foretasted just a short time before. It looks like the Atom is flying pretty good with that new firmware. And don't seem to get the signal penetration you do with O4 on DJI drones, when you took the drone to low, that is when you had signal loss issues. Great testing, and thanks for sharing Marcus.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Can you fly above 120 meters in the US? If so, lucky you! We can't do that in EU. - In Portugal, you can't even take off without a permit.

How do you screen recording with the Potensic Atom? I have a Potensic Atom and an dji mini 4 pro and the RC2 with screen display built-in and I know how to do screen recording on that dji screen controller. However, with the Potensic controller does not have a screen display like the dji RC2. Therefore, I don't know how to screen recording with the Potensic controller. Do you mind if you can do a video tutoring on how to screen record with the Potensic Atom? Much appreciated!

Hi Marcus, great video as usual. I'm curious if you think the video interference is more common in a suburban area with lots of WiFi. I'm in a very rural area and don't seem to experience the video interruptions however, when I fly in a local park surrounded by homes, I seem to have more video interference. If I remember correctly, you took the Potensic Atom to a very rural area and the video performance was good. Anyway, it is a fun drone to fly, and we appreciate your excellent videos.

Hi Marcus, I really appreciate your reviews of the Potensic Atom, and I saw your other video where you featured the intelligent flight modes. One thing Im curious about though that you didnt cover is if it has the same Panoramic and Wide Angle function that you've demonstrated with the DJI Mini drones, where the app will take the shots and splice them together seamlessly. Is that the case with the Potensic Atom as well?

Hi Marcus, nice review of the Atom's firmware update, thanks for sharing. While many of these 2nd tier drones have limited range compared to DJI Mini's, they all work pretty well in the range of VLOS. IMO if the Atom gets a larger sensor it will be a very good mini drone choice. I enjoy flying my Potensic Atom.

You don't seem to understand that when signal is lost and return to home kicks in the drone is disconnected from the settings you adjusted in the safety menu, so to be safe the drone is programed to max altitude for a safe return. Can you explain why you are always surprised when disconnected the drone goes to max altitude because I am always surprised that you don't understand this safety feature. Thanks , Bill

The Nano has better flight controls and a much better camera. The Potensic needs a better bitrate. 👍

Well, the DJI competition keeps on trying and getting better slowly, always risky flying them dinky plasticky drones over buildings though, just out of curiosity if one of them props broke say and the thing fell on to one of the roofs, would you go into the store and ask for your drone back, I guess it's best to have insurance just in case anyway. I had to knock on a neighbour's door once and that was embarrassing enough, although that was decades ago and involved an RC copter.
