You are absolutely right, Jeanette! There is relatively no info on KZbin about how to use the Air pen. I am so glad you did this. Thanks for sharing and congratulations in your new fun present!

Welllll I bought one of the air pens at t least 2-3 years ago. Never took it out and investigated it. So while you were looking through the parts and explaining I pulled mine out and did the same. I’m going to have to make some slip and play with it! Thank you for doing this video 😊

This is so fun. After we spoke yesterday I watched some of the videos, the same handful of videos that are available that I’ve watched before, and I thought about having to clean it!! Glad to see they have that thing to help clean it. The older the clay or slip the better! Aged clay is much more plastic than new!! To get the water off the top use a clean dry sponge!! The paint brush technique is what I really want to try. It’s such a beautiful creative flower. You did so well with your first flowers!!! You used to decorate cakes didn’t you? I remembered that when I saw how amazingly well you were doing! Haha. By the way your handwriting is just beautiful!! Sorry this got so long my gosh how does that happen! Remember that when it dries it will be much less raised and smaller since the clay shrinks. When you use wet slip it shrinks a lot more because there is so much water in it. This would be awesome to write the names on the bottom part of your mugs! Try different sized brushes and with different hairs to get a little difference for the flowers too!! This was so fun!! Love it!! ❤❤❤

I agree there are so few videos o the airpen - I keep searching and finding the same ones time over. Hopefully this playlist will be helpful for others as I bumble my way through LOL. The cleaning part was so easy with the plunger. I must remember to tap out air bubbles in the tube before I add the antigravity stopper. The 2nd syringe had barely any bubbles! Didn't know about older slip the better! Interesting...wondering what you can add to make it thinker without having to add more dried clay and re-sieve. Currently just left the top off and hoping it will thicken up quickly so I can have another go. The paintbrush technique is my favourite, but I think it needs to be thicker to have more of a 3D effect, but so easy and therapeutic to do. Don't really need to change the nibs, as you can adjust the flow with the air compressor adjustable knob and the flow by taking your finger off. That was something I didn't realise initially. LOL - Yes I am professionally trained as a cake decorator - the old school techniques with royal icing and piping bags. This feels very natural to me, but more like a pencil that a piping bag. My handwriting with a piping bag was always so much more flowy than my normal handwriting. Nice to play with the sweeps and curves. I noticed the shrinkage was more than normal when I checked the boards the following day, and realised it was because there was more water content in there - that's when I decided I needed it to be thicker so it can be more raised and retain much more texture after shrinkage. Never thought about writing on the bottom of pieces....now that's a nice idea to try too! Never ending! Oh yes - different sized brushes for different flower effects! You're a fountain of knowledge and inspiration! Thanks Michele, always love your lengthy comments, they're the best!

@ Aaaw Jeanette that makes me feel so good. Thank you. I don’t mean to make them so long but I have so many things in my head! Hahaha. So glad I can help. The only way to thicken the slip without having dry to add to it is to put it in a bigger container that way it has a lot more surface area to dry. Then let it sit out. But you want to stir it occasionally or it will get lumpy and you will have to really sieve it. I sometimes even spread a bunch out on a smooth surface pretty thinly and then have a fan on it while using a pallets knife to mix it. It takes a bit but but I really love playing with it. You can also do this to glazes. I’m currently drying out some running hot chowder to see how it works!!❤️❤️❤️

Wow! I actually had to go dig mine out (it's actually a Wilton Icing Airpen... I've had it for awhile). I will be experimenting with it soon, and I'll share my findings. Thank you!

Thank you so much for posting this video! I have been thinking about getting one of these for a few years, but always put it off. I have arthritis in my hands so can’t squeeze the bottles. One of these air pens would be great for applying the Stroke and Coat onto my carved pieces. I am really looking forward to see your creations using it.

LOL - It amazing just how easy it was to set up and clean up too. Just got to organise all the inspiration in my head of ideas into some sort of logical project! I'll keep adding to the playlist with any airpen project I do. If you get one would love to hear how you get on with it too

@WhiteStoneCottagePottery it was hard to locate one in the UK as they are made in the US and no one stocks them here. So I was super thrilled when my mum managed to source on each for a birthday gift for me. I was ecstatic! So much fun to play woth!

I absolutely loved playing with it, has great potential. Just need to have slightly thicker slip I feel to retain the £d effect when it dries and shrinks.
