What else would you like to train your parrot to do?
@patrickrossol82563 жыл бұрын
We’ll it’s a broader theme but we’re looking for the right parrot to get and I already digested all your Videos in order to decide on the right species. Long story short, we like the hole freeflight thing but are not having the space for a pair of full grown macaws. Next on the list would be hawk headed or illiger macaws ... what other species are great to train freeflight and keep around with you on the terrace and such.
@Fivesaflock3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickrossol8256 If you're looking to actively freeflight your parrot outdoors, your best bet is to get a large colorful parrot so it's easier to spot and keep track of, as well as large enough to outpace or fight back any predatory wild birds.

A question, will the parrot eventually, on its own, when it has to relieve itself, take itself to where it is instructed to relive itself, then return. Much like we go to the rest room?

I have a white bellied caique too, but he squats when he has to go like right then and there. I try to take him to the toilet but he’s scared of the bathroom. When I take him to his cage he will poop before I get him there so how do I know if he has to poop beforehand

How do you find breeders near you? How did you find your birds?
@Fivesaflock4 жыл бұрын
Google Maps and Yelp is a great way to find parrot stores. Generally they're called Exotic Pet stores. Also looking up bird fairs and stuff are a great way to network with local breeders.

Would the bird be able to go to the toilet by itself, if you train the bird in the way you show here? I mean, if the bird is free in the house while the owner is doing other things and therefore is not paying attention to the bird. Can the bird then fly to its toilet to go potty and then fly back to e.g. the couch?

One question I have is wouldn't saying the phase "Go Potty" over and over again kill the que? I heard that constant repetition can make birds ignore it as background noise.

You want to time it around the time it's going to go potty so you don't overdo it

What birds travel well on an RV?
@Fivesaflock4 жыл бұрын
if your available space is tiny, you should stick with a tiny parrot like a budgie or parrotlet.

what are you thoughts on if the parrot learns that it can only go on your command, wouldn't that cause problems?
@Fivesaflock3 жыл бұрын
Birds will still go if they have to. The idea is give them a time to do it on command so they don't accidentally go on you. Note: Sakura the Caique literally just went on me as I was typing this because I didn't give her the opportunity for a while.

Hello my friend I am thinking on getting a green cheek conure my question is that is best to get one from a pet shop or a breeder or off someone whom is selling theirs much appreciated thanks
@Fivesaflock3 жыл бұрын
The absolute BEST method is to meet the bird in person first and see if the bird connects with you. There's definitely an element of the best relationships being when the bird also chooses the owner.

I'm wondering if putting going potty on cue is really necessary? I don't have any experience with parrots (thinking about getting one), but I have trained other animals and I'm wondering if it isn't more practical to just bring the bird to the right place at the right time and then reward when they go potty there without saying anything? That way, wouldn't they learn to just go there when they need to without you having to tell them to, minimizing the risk of you forgetting to tell them so they go on you instead? Also, I asked about potty training parrots in a Facebook group recently and was told that it was bad for them because some birds then only ever do it if you tell them to and risk getting sick for not going often enough. Even if you don't have that issue with your birds, wouldn't one avoid the risk of creating that problem if the behavior is rewarded but not put on cue? Am I making sense? Or does it just not work like that with parrots?
@Fivesaflock3 жыл бұрын
No you make complete sense and while I've heard people say that, I have never heard of a single case where that happens leading me to believe it's possibly another parrot myth. I still have a hard time believing an intelligent animal would kill itself from not going to the bathroom. Maybe it can, but I have never heard of someone who actually experienced this issue, and there are other myths in the bird community that follow a similar vein of things. A simple idea that maybe makes sense in thought, but has literally never happened in the hobby.

I have a green cheek conure and sometimes even if it's obvious she has to go, she won't do it where I asked her to, but other times, she will do it immediatly. Sometimes she just acts like a kid that doen't want to go and runs away to poop elsewhere hahaha it's pretty funny, but after 6 months, she clearly knows where to do it but she still tries to run away. We have 3 spots (3 perches) for her, even a fourth one directly on the floor, but even with positive reenforcement she still tries to run away. What should I do?

Try finding a reward she really likes such as a fatty sunflower seed or her favorite toy. Find what commands her attention and use it.
