I just bought that same Chainsaw for cheap just because it won`t start. The original owner told me that it has been stored for a few years and it won`t start now. I got it just to see if i could fix it. I`m gonna check compression first before anything else. Thanks for the video and for letting us learn from your mistake. Keep up the good work

That saw is junk. I bought one brand new, still have it. Even when it was new it took pulling the rope about 20 or more times to get it started. I even brought it in to the shop when new, when I got it back it was the same thing, you throw out your back pulling on that rope to get it started before you even start cutting wood. My Husky and Stihl saws only take about 4-5 pulls max to get them going when cold. I'll sell you my Poulan Pro with 20 inch bar for fifty bucks LOL

It's my observation that people who purchase store brand chainsaws generally don't know much about chainsaws. I purchased a Poulan Pro 18" 12 years ago and kept it going until the plastic carb to block adapter cracked and could not find the part. Anyway I'm enjoying my new Echo CS-400

Yeah well most of those from the 2775 to the 4620avx didn't run long and most of them did just that. It's due to an air leak between the metal plate and the rubber intake boot. I have several of these saws, most of them burnt up due to in my opinion a factory defect. New rubber boots are unobtainable and make no difference. Such a shame because they're a nice saw.

My Poulan Pro PR4218 is two years old, been used a half dozen times or so. I recently was cutting some limbs and it was running fine. It stopped and I sat it down while I moved some limbs. I haven’t been able to start it since then. All filters and screens are clean All fuel lines clean and in good shape New sparkplug properly gapped Fresh fuel/oil mix Primer bulb working Good compression Tried everything that should have started it ― nothing. Any suggestions

I have a Poulan Chainsaw and a Remington gas handheld blower by mtd. Both say the spark plug gap should be 0.025 in. (0.635 mm). I noticed it’s easier to start them if the gap is set to 0.030 in. Would it hurt the engine at all if I continued to use them at 0.030 or should I re-gap them back to 0.025? Thanks

I have a Poulan Pro that I bought a few years back and used only a few times. One day I just couldn't get started and just left it and let it be. Bad move, I know. Since then I have been using TruFuel in all my equipment with great results. I've got a Tanaka hedge trimmer, Hitachi string trimmer and leaf blower, and a cheap Chinese Blue Max brush cutter and every single one starts easily every single time. I'll never mix my own gas again. I don't know if I have the know how to get the Poulan started. I dumped the old gas out and put fresh in, but no luck. I'm up for trying simple fixes but don't trust myself to get into delicate work with the carburetor, and it might not be worth it anyway, even though it's only got a few hours on it. I know it can't be as torn up as the one in the video though! I don't need a chainsaw very often but if I get another one I'll probably get a small Echo and run TruFuel in it and hopefully have the same start every time results.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you James Hinckley for the comment. You sir are absolutely correct. TruFuel and the rest off the shelf mixed gas are the best you can do for your small engine. I was hoping to do a video on this topic. Thanks again.

@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE The first thought I had and I'm sure other people have is "that works out to like $25 for a gallon of gas - that's nuts!", but I promise you it's worth it. If you're running a landscape business then it might not make sense, but then you would probably be mixing a fresh batch of gas every week. For the rest of us it is soooo worth it. It has eliminated all my headaches. I don't drain my gas for the winter anymore. I can leave the tank a quarter tank full all winter and it will still start up no problem in the spring. Just can't recommend enough to people.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE

Wow this just shows you at how careless people are with their stuff. These are very affordable saws which is why you see these more than a Stihl for example but even if it was a Stihl, the engine would have been destroyed due to the owner/whoever borrowed the saw for use, failure to take care of equipment properly. To reduce the amount of these you see with blown engines, manufacturers should put a big sticker in bold red words on the gas tank that says "IMPORTANT: FAILURE TO PROPERLY MIX 40:1 GAS WILL CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE" or it should say "IMPORTANT: BEFORE USING THIS PRODUCT MAKE SURE YOU ARE MIXING GAS WITH A 40:1 OIL RATIO. REFER TO THE MANUAL OR THE INTERNET FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON MIXING GAS AND OIL PROPERLY". People that neglect any lawn equipment causing it to fail should be buying electric everything. People that know what they are doing should be the ones using the 2-cycles.

I agree. My new Poulan 262 was a PITA to start from the day I purchased it. No difference after a $75 "tune up" at a small engine shop; and yes I know a NEW chainsaw should not require a tune up. Best advice: don't buy a Poulan; if you did. save yourself a lot of trouble and toss it in the trash. Unless you are a professional tree guy working where you have no electricity, purchase a lithium battery powered chainsaw. While others are still yanking the starter cord, you will be on your second tree.

@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 6 жыл бұрын
If you have been trying to start it "A LOT" you might have flooded it and some of the gas maybe getting past the rings and increasing the compression ratio. I would leave the spark plug out and let it dry out for a long time before trying to start it again. To check for spark insert the spark plug back on the boot and allow the spark plug to touch the metal of the engine and then pull over the engine and see there is a spark at the tip of it. If you want just change the plug. They are not expensive. Thanks for watching.
