We bought this shed at the beginning of July. kzbin.infoUgkxe81Bz076USDt6sYU1rDcNa2LwCIKADgB It’s built now and just needs painting. The instructions were clear and concise. All the parts were there and in excellent condition.

The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

@pogiguy05337 жыл бұрын
It is suppose to keep it from settling down from the foundation. However, most would recommend using rebar as it is a thicker and will not snap off as these blue screws will probably do. The weight of the concrete will be way to much on them.

I believe Jim was referring to the old slab as in the foundation he put the blue Tapcom screws into....not thebricks... and as far as a finish the man should have edged the slab while the concrete was still green.. also a broomed finish would have been better than no rounded edges and an in-uniformed broomed brush finish....

@David-ln5zu5 жыл бұрын
Alex Douglas, membrane is often used to control and prevent weeds growing through your landscaping.
@CougarLand8 жыл бұрын
Did you water that gravel just before you put the concrete on? I'm not sure what the purpose of the tapcon screws are because they won't be enough to hold it to the other structure, and with just some gravel underneath, you want that thing to be able to heave up and down anyway from frost without breaking.

Nice work but those blue tapcons don't serve any purpose. As soon as the slab shifts even just a little they'll snap. Obviously you won't notice it but there's no point screwing those into the existing foundation. If you really need to tie the concrete slab to an existing foundation then it requires more than just tapcon screws.
@DMVRockz7 жыл бұрын
OU812 what else would it require
@OU81TWO7 жыл бұрын
+Paul Rockz It's typically done with steel pins epoxied into the existing foundation. The pins are of substantial diameter to resist shear loads. It would be complete overkill for a small slab like that.

Some plastic in the bottom would stop the ground from leeching water from the concrete as it cures. Plastic on top of the finished concrete for several days would also assist with the cure. Water leaving into the ground or evaporated by the sun, wind, or a breeze, will weaken your cure and could result in cracking later. Also, It's a good idea to spray curing compound onto the exposed surfaces once the top plastic is removed. It seals the surface and prevents water evsporation. Retaining moisture in your concrete for as long as possible is key to a good cure.

Thank for the informative video - i was wondering why some people use gravel as you did and some people use sand to prep the surface before pouring the concrete? ... in fact i have seen some people covered the ground surface with plastic bags and poured concrete right over it. Any feed back would be appreciate it.
@pogiguy05337 жыл бұрын
I think some of what you have to consider is where you live. Does the ground freeze? if so then the ground will raise and lower a little bit so you need to use a better rock foundation. If you dont live where it freezes then probably dont need to worry as much so use sand. As for plastic bags it might be for a moisture barrier if your pouring it into a living area or where you dont want ground water to penetrate thru the concrete. yes concrete can be porous.

What is the purpose of the screws you put into the building foundation? If it was to prevent the slab from heaving and/or sinking, it seems to me it might just shear off the screws, or break the concrete around the screws.
