Couldn’t find a decent video on KZbin so just took bits and pieces from videos on here and then practiced until I got it down. Just really gotta focus on mud consistency for this kind of skip. The first person POV is excellent. And I bet it’s easy for you too! Just setup the GoPro on your head and hit record, no fussing with a tripod. How long does your texture mud last in the bucket? I would love to see the same POV tutorials detailing the tools, materials and techniques with the texture. Keep up the good work!

@@clarkt9925 thank you man! Yea I have a go pro but these were actually shot on an iPhone. The texture mud can last for a long time . I’m talking months if you need to. But the amount of jobs I do every week it’s usually gone by the end of week Got some videos I’m putting out using the texture pump gun I have shooting a knockdown texture and my truck set up. Been sick all week so my voice sounds like crap but hopefully this weekend I could edit them up. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!

Cracks like those, I take out or drill holes in it and insert expanding foam, cut back and fill. Have never had a crack re appear doing that. Works up the string on stairs too

All we use in England is mesh tape as we actually plaster. Nothing wrong with it at all. Most of the repairs I do involve paper tape that’s failed in new build houses, same with the rubbish paper corner beads and 45 degree angle beads. Always fail

I love the plastic on the floor / toss the mud down idea. Saves so much time and mess later on. After seeing that cat (or dog) I thought you could always have a 2’x2’ square of plastic that you drape over your blob area if you’re leaving the site for a few mins so they don’t step in it and track it everywhere haha. Thats a good example of why you dont put butt joints in middle of doors because when that door gets used and slammed it leaves the stress crack because it breaks that mud loose and leaves a hairline fracture. A horrizontal crack that is widening is signs of bad settling or poor structural integrity

Exactly. Any joins around doors always fail. I try and put a sheet completely around the door if possible

Man, im in TX and these contractors wanted $900 to do exactly what you just did. It made me learn how to diy (thanks KZbin) and tackled it for about $100 in material and equipment. It took me a day of working it step by step, but you can't even tell it was cracked. If they hadn't been so greedy i would have paid $400 or maybe even $450 for their hour... but they lost my business 😂

Why did you not put drywall screws on both sides of the crack. Won’t it crack again?

Typically it will crack again. Most of the time, the crack comes from either inadequate screw pattern when originally installed or settling/shifting, which loosens the rock slightly around the screws especially if there's not enough. Or there's no framing there at all, and the hanger broke the rock with no backing and you're screwed either way short of cutting the rock out and making a bigger patch to the nearest framing member.

@@miguelangel97marron88 yes I do 👍🏼but only when the boards are loose. And there is not always framing there to apply screws as well. It’s all case by case basis. Hope that helped !

I push it through the mesh tape to be the pre fill. If you watch I’m working it in there pretty hard so it pushes through the holes I the mesh . One of the reasons why I like mesh as well compared to paper tape or fiba fuse

@@Bluebird22200 I always tell people that there is never a guarantee on stress cracks . If anyone tells you other wise they are lying. If it’s a point of stress in the home then the chances are that it can crack again. But I also have done these every week for over 15 years now and have never had a callback on one. Just make sure the v cut it and if the boards are loose then the better add some screws. Hope that helps !

I use a hand cream instead of gloves, you put it on in the beginning of the day and it keeps mud and paint (and roofing tar) off your hands all day.

It’s funny I get people from Chicago telling me I’m cheap.Maybe try to focus your advertising in the higher end areas. And I always have had a minimum and I dont sway from it. SoI tell them if they would like me to paint as well then it will be my minimum trip charge plus the cost of paint. If it’s small like in my next video Im posting then I will use a heat gun and fan to dry it and paint it in the same trip .
