Thanks you!! I always have someone spot for me when I back it into its parking spot/campsite. I wish I wouldn't of had to tow it today, but I had to get it in now so I can have it back for camping season, which is too short.

great video man. I know nothing about towing and not sure if i'll ever have to but its great to hear you talk about the different things about it. seems like that hemi and 8 speed does a great job with all of that weight!!

Which model trailer? I'm mostly interested in the length and how stable/how much sway you experienced. I'm considering a trailer at about 29' total length.
@daytona5.7225 жыл бұрын
It is a Salem Cruise Lite 261BHXL which is 29' feet total length. I have an Equalizer hitch and I replaced the trailer tires with Goodyear Endurance tires, I took a 2000 mile round trip last summer, very little sway. I was very confident towing with this setup, the tire change made a big difference.

Thanks for the video! We have a 5400 Lbs trailer, loaded (lance 1985), and we are towing with a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ with factory towing package (rated 6500 lbs), equalizer weight distribution and brake controller. We did 2 travels, one of 2000 miles and another shorter of 500. Jeep did good, no sway at all. We are doing 9 Mpg at 4th. But I feel like the v8 4.7 is on its limit. I go around 62 mph. I was thinking to upgrade it to a Durango. Does it felt like on the limit? if you need to got 70 (in better weather and just for a short time) does the durango go up to 70? Thanks for the video again! I'm just worried about going to a routes that are near to mountains, going up with the jeep.
@daytona5.7224 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The Durango is able to go 70 mph with no issues, I can run 75 mph if conditions allow, I get between 9 to 10 mpg, I towed with this setup to PA and back which included the small mountains in PA, it will work going up hills but it does not feel like I'm at the limit of the engine.
@alexie2915 жыл бұрын
I believe the biggest challenge with SUV towing is Payload. Many of these vehicles have lower limits for payload and can be easily exceeded if you have a big family and load the vehicle with gear.
@daytona5.7225 жыл бұрын
That is true, you have to watch your tongue weight. Thanks for watching!

I have a 99 Expedition with air suspension and it tows fantastic also I put over 2000 pounds in the back when I had to haul a ton of pellet bags and it did fantastic but that just could be a help with the air suspension or just maybe Ford underestimated the Expeditions payload capacity

Very helpful video. I have a 2013 V8 Citadel and currently pull a pop-up trailer that weighs about 3,500 lbs. We'd like to upgrade to a full-size ultralight trailer, but I've been wondering about the towing performance when you get close to the 7,400 lb limit. You mentioned your trailer weighs about 5,500. Is that dry weight or loaded? If it's dry weight, any idea what it weighs loaded? Most of the trailers I've been looking at are round 7,500 if you max out their cargo capacity (which I wouldn't). I'd probably be looking at about 7,000 lbs loaded. Just wondering if the Durango could handle that reasonably well. Also, do you just use the factory hitch or have you upgraded (sway bar, weight distribution hitch, etc)?
@daytona5.7226 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! My trailer is 5500 pounds loaded, a weight distributing hitch with sway control is mandatory, I use the equalizer hitch. I towed this trailer to Carlisle PA and back this summer and it did well, averaged about 10 mpg running 70 mph. I upgraded the trailer tires to Goodyear Endurance which made a big difference.

You can go with Carlisle but you would just be into another Chinese manufactured tire but a bit better. I would go with the Goodyear Endurance Trailer Tires. They are made in the USA. I just got rid of my China Bombs and put these on and what a difference.
@daytona5.7226 жыл бұрын
Good to know that you like them! I should have stated it better, I'm going to Carlisle PA this summer for a car show with the travel trailer, I'm thinking about the Goodyear Endurance tires, most everyone gives them positive reviews. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with the Goodyear Endurance tires!
@victorurbina29446 жыл бұрын
Daytona 5.7 trust me if you get the Goodyear Endurance Trailer Tires you won't regret it. I got mine from Discount Tire and was able to haggle 500 bucks out the door. That's balanced, mounted and with replacement warranty that will replace tire in case of a blowout. I did however keep all 4 of my original tires (Rainer) so there was no disposal fee. I want to mount at least 2 of those as spares ad they are relatively new off of my 2017 Jayco and take them with me on long trips. The other 2 i will just sell or dump.
@daytona5.7226 жыл бұрын
Sounds good!! I will have to visit Discount Tire.

Is this the Durango RT?
@daytona5.7226 жыл бұрын
It's the Citadel model, which is the luxury model, it has a more ride based suspension rather than performance based, it also has quieter exhaust than the R/T. I sometimes second guess myself, but this Durango is a great long trip vehicle. Thanks for checking it out!!

I love my Durango R/T awd. The exhaust note is addictive. I move the kids during the week and drop the hammer on the weekends headed to the homedepot. Sadly, I will be selling it next year for the cybertruck. 😥

Looking at a similar vehicle for 2018, can't believe the RT version only has an axle ratio of 3:09, what is the axle ratio on yours, and how much weight were you hauling here? Have you experienced transmission issues?
@daytona5.7226 жыл бұрын
I have the 3:09 gear ratio, it works well with the 8sp, I'm towing about 5500 pounds, no transmission issues. I'm very happy with this Durango. I have a video on this channel that discusses the gear ratios of the 8sp.

One more question, do you have Trailer Tow Group IV with rear load leveling suspension?
@daytona5.7226 жыл бұрын
I have the Trailer Tow Group with the load leveling shocks, I find it helpful to increase the air pressure in the tires when towing.
