Trey K yeah It doesn’t show which one is actually faster when they both are able to just maintain 60. I wish they could find a big long hill like that where there’s traffic and do it side by side drag race style. Or better yet take the trailers to a drag strip and do a 1/4 mile. TFL, if you’re reading these then make that happen!

Viren vs the raptor has smaller engine, more weight, bigger tires and the truck is not designed to tow... the durango on the other hand is street oriented, much lighter and yes a bigger engine but that means that it doesn't have to work as hard because it has more power.

So the Raptor has a higher gear ratio which hurts MPG but it's tires are nearly 35" tall which more than gives it a gear advantage for fuel economy (and 2 extra gears). I blame aerodynamics, the Raptor is wider and taller off the ground. Either way... put the Hemi in the Raptor and the gas mileage would more than likely be the same as what the ecoboost got or slightly better. Which is my point. I don't hate the Raptor, I hate the engine. If a much larger displacement engine with less torque can beat a turbocharged one up a mountain in fuel economy... well then the whole point of an ecoboost was just shit on.

I had the F150 2013 booster and now the 2018 Raptor with improved version of same size V6. They both get remarkable fule economy when only lightly worked, but both guzzle fuel when worked harder. However the new Raptor mileage is better than the 2013 regular version. The Raptor is not what I would buy as primarily a tow vehicle, but I do use to tow my utility tractors when needed and that has been no problem.

It towed my 7x20 VRV with Harley in it from Mass to Sturgis and back at over 14 mpg. The Raptor just towed the same setup to WV and back getting 9 mpg as an avg. both towed the trailer like the sports vehicles they are. Great acceleration and brakes. I don't consider a CUV such as the current Durango a truck, especially considering it's now on a unibody platform. Everyone commenting about the raptors fuel economy. There’s no free lunch in physics, turbos basically allow the engine to simulate displacement under load but when you cram in more air you also have to burn more fuel. It’s eco-boost, you can get eco if you stay off the throttle, or you can hammer it and get boost.

Seen it before in other car tests, the more powerful car gets better mpg when you actually drive the two cars in question in the same way. I heard you say that you manually shifted down to not brake as much. The point of other trucks were to see how the transmission handled the downhill.Ok know this was for fun. But maybe a suggestion because when you used the manual shift down one the transmission handled the downhill well, off brakes etc. I was wondering how the difference would have been on the F250 and Chevy if a manual shift would have happened and see how the trans RPM’s handled the hill. They were both 10 I think. So if a truck had to brake 5 times then you would manually shift down and see how it handled. So in the same test we would already know that its has to brake a lot, so more than 5 is already not great. But then we could see how it would handle with a manual shift , which is what we would have to do anyways..... Ok suggestion done...... I was always curious to see how it handled if that would have happened. Thanks, keep up the great videos!!!!

One against the Ram 2500. Actually did 12 brake applications... same as Ram. They did not manual brake..... Like to have seen how the 6.2 handled if a manual shift would have happened. Maybe make the second half of downhill more interesting. Thanks.
@k.r.v.42197 жыл бұрын
Hey the 30% increase in mileage correlates to the increase in displacement! As the bigger engine works less! Sure tires make a difference, but so do twin turbos. Everything in the outcome of numbers bring only one thing out, demand on the engine. One is a high strung smaller engine, tuned about as high as you can. The other a big displacement that is also high tuned, but not with forced induction. So cylinder pressures are not as great in the bigger engine!

Of course it's not porpoising or squirrelly, Nathan. You've got a weight distributing hitch on there. That just means you installed it correctly.
@dylanrittenhouse60907 жыл бұрын
the mpg difference is most likely because of the turbos vs a super charger. The super charger adds more low end power making, great for fuel use while towing. Turbos add more high end power. So they burn more fuel at lower speeds, while producing a better acceleration at higher speeds. This affect also raises top speed.
@MarcMonson7 жыл бұрын

@2003evodave7 жыл бұрын
Dylan Rittenhouse what?....turbos DO give more low end power more efficiently than superchargers especially twin turbos. Modern variable blade turbos are also great at widening the Power band of an engine. FYI- superchargers take power from a engine to run them VS turbos have zero parasitic energy drain so are more efficient. The negative of turbos is the engine bay space they need.
