I must admit i miss the dash mounted camera. This new view is good, but we miss much of the outside view, plus the bobbing and weaving are giving me motion sickness 😊

Sweet sweet turbo whistle and jake break melodies. Beautiful music. Thanks Fren for the audio fix.

Not really knowing much about truck transmissions, I'd love to see subtitles describing the shifts you're making so I can follow along.

Howdy #SpotBot9000 how long of a string of stem pipe is on that coil roughly? It looks like maybe 4 to 5000 ft or so.

Can you explain why the empty/loaded and certain direction in/out when you're calling kilometers
@darrenmclean17423 күн бұрын
From loggers...they go in Empty and out Loaded. Empty Heavy heading into the bush with a load.

He's calling his kilometers on a 2 way radio to let other truckers know where his location is and also he knows where they are so nobody comes ripping around a corner only to find another semi facing him and no surprises. If your heading to site from town, you're considered 'empty' and if your heading from site to town, you're loaded.

How tall are those coils 12’ ?
@TimelapseTruckerRTOTКүн бұрын
4.8 to 5.3
@travisandrews6857Күн бұрын
@@TimelapseTruckerRTOT oic some of them are like 15’ on the ground. I just seen your last vid looked like you measured 4.5 so I thought maybe they were lower than I thought

Hey TLT, why do you call out "Empty" when you are loaded and "Loaded" when the trailer is empty? And no clutch to shift, how does that work? I don't mind the new view, you can really get a sense of the weight involved when it shakes. Great stuff!

Empty and loaded dictate the direction of travel. It was loggers that started using it. As a rule of thumb if the km's are going up you're empty, km's going down you're loaded. That's why you hear him call empty heavy or empty wide. The transmission in these trucks are vastly different than a normal stick, if you were to use the clutch you would have to double clutch (clutch to neutral, clutch into gear). Most drivers just 'float the gears' and skip using the clutch.

Barr is right. I have been driving semis a few years. Mostly 18 speeds like tlt has. They are unsyncronized gearboxes whereas a car is synchronized. Each gear works at a particular speed and rpm to harness the power band of the big, low revving, diesel motors. Each gear and speed has a particular rpm it works at. After awhile you find a few comfort gears you can always click into. 2nd direct and 6 overdrive are always ones i can count on. 4th is a bitch for me to me for some reason.

Barr and Edward are very correct. Loaded and empty is just indicating whelich direction you're going. It can seem confusing cause sometimes you'll get onto a road at a high number and you have to go down to a lower number, while being loaded or empty. I've gotten confused more than once cause of this. I'll also add in British Columbia, they use 'up' or 'down' , indicating they're either going up the mountain or down it

in a few spots yes, ive done worse, coming out was a treat, heavier 10,000 lbs. its not horrible but any incline at slower speeds are a pull

@TimelapseTruckerRTOT i just noticed the old girl doing the bobble head. Have hauled on what call a rail low drag with a 375 kamotso on my back pulling a haul road in the hills of Appalachian mountains. I miss the challenges, am semi retired at 69. Love your presentations
