@@CharlieBerensI remember when my tires went flat (well, my tire pressure light is always on, because I think my sensor is broken), I spent a lot of time flipping through the manual trying desperately to find the proper psi after Google-sensei let me down. If it was on the door all along, I could have saved so much time.
@vksjd5 күн бұрын
@@dave.lenton, the maximum pressure rating for a tire is just that, the maximum. The maximum pressure rating is listed on the tire. The recommended pressure for a particular car is usually well below that and is listed in the door frame. Some cars recommend different pressures for the front and back tires. Manufacturers want some safety margin between the recommended pressure and the maximum pressure rating, so a car with recommended tire pressures of 36 PSI may have tires with a maximum pressure rating of 50 PSI. I would be surprised if your tires have a maximum pressure of 36 PSI, but that would be a pretty common recommended pressure.

Cars are getting "smarter" and more autonomous every year, but the most basic of maintenance and paying attention to your vehicle will always be required. Great advice on the pressure as well. And yes, keeping a pressure gauge in your pocket is clearly a joke, but having one in your glove box is a really good idea. Gauges on the pumps at the petrol stations aren't always accurate so it's a good idea to double check.

I feel like this is gonna be my mum when I can finally drive, not my dad. My dad isn't scary. My mum is a completely different case lol.

Im old enough to remember when the air machine didnt beep. Lots of bending and squinting and fear involved. Im so grateful for a dad who instilled basic auto knowledge. Once a week, on Sunday, I check my fluids, tire pressure, clean my windows. Every week, for decades.

I love it cuz this is how all mid west parents seem to be. They don’t spend much time with their kids or teach them basics on things like this but expect them to understand and get frustrated when they don’t. Then Comes the teaching moment where theres a lil bit of hollerin, then the u did good/ I’m proud of you talk with a pat on the shoulder. If u think I’m makin this shiz up, talk to any yooper our Wisconsin parent! 😂

Just an fyi... us FIBs get the same talking to from our dads. See, we're not so different.

This is perfect. Gotta love dads. When I was about nineteen, me and my dad were driving at night in MY truck, when a deer came running out of the field on my right and into the corner of the truck. He yells at me “how the hell didn’t you see that, I saw it coming from a mile away!” I didn’t point out that I was focused on the road in front of me, and that it may have been helpful if he’d spoken up about the deer. I still would’ve been wrong. God bless all of em. Go hug your dads.

No, dad was right and taught you a lesson at the same time, he's not always going to be there with you. This reminds me of a road trip and the first hour was rural, my female passenger said at the end... at least there were only 3 deer... my reply was "There were over 100 and I stopped counting".

Real quick people, on your tire it says a specific pressure. And its true, never go that high. But your censors also just tell you the amount before it tells you it needs air. Every car is different, some will tell you a number well below the recommended amount. Which for normal tires its usually 38-40. Lt's 60-70. Cant count how many tires I see get ruined because people put too little or much air.

The real ones don't drive vehicles with "censors".

Fellow Midwesterner here...when I started driving, my Dad gave me a tire gauge. He also taught me how to change a tire, and how to use a cheater bar. He made me do it. Thanks, Dad.

@@underleft Yeah that’s the plan. Get married and have kiddos. Calm down, sir/madam.

The door sticker can't be accurate if you change the tire type from the manufacturer recommended spec. Good rule of thumb is ~5PSI under the max when the tire is cold

That’s some solid advice. If I didn’t already have a Dad, I’d adopt him. I love my Pops, he’s the best.
