Just goes to show the importance of the colors and drilling in that era. Napoleonic warfare was second only to the first world war in terms of horrifying ways to die. It was the constant drilling and discipline that kept men in formation. As long as one man kept the colors high you would survive, even if that one man was you... Basically they trained every guy with a kind of main character syndrome.
@archmagosdominusbelisarius88363 күн бұрын
Actually its the other way around. They trained them to be cogs in a machine. A unit is only a unit if all the people march, reload and fire at the same time

They decided that guy with the flute does more good than if he had a rifle... That somehow the serenity of his sad little flute is going to cancel out the cound of enemy cannon fire. The cannon fodder surely must have thought that listening to pied piper was the final insult before they left this terrible world.
@cn.st.18219 сағат бұрын
The flute genuinely had something disturbing to it. The shallow attempt at distraction somehow.

Artillery rounds in the Napoleonic Wars did not explode when they hit the ground. It was either round shot, which bounced around and mangled people, canister, which was a giant shotgun, or exploding shell, which exploded in mid-air. They did not develop the technology of having a percussion cap in the tip to detonate on contact until later in the century.
@Suixamoht2 күн бұрын
Historical records from that era are spotty at best. But you're right. I think the next video will be a more realistic (and boring) one. I tried for hours to create a Hollywood version of "the charge of the light brigade" with somewhat true to history units being used, but it just doesn't work out as I want it to. It's difficult due to not being able to control the AI army.

The game mount and blade which came out in 2018 but there's a couple musket type mods. It's mostly Napoleon era but also they have medieval era when handheld cannons were first introduced. The only thing I don't like about the mods is the range of the weapons. It's like you can snipe someone a mile away LOL still love it though.
