At first I was like Damn Germans are driving like it’s nascar then I realized 95 kilometers is approximately 60 miles an hour. That’s pretty similar to our highway speeds. County road and highways are usually 55-65, and the multi lane highways and freeways are usually 70 but everyone drives 80+ in California.

A lot of us drive slower because of the high rainfall. You might not be able to see it, but a lot of times there's a small bit of water on the road and you can very easily hydroplane. Even on 1/8 inch of water you can lose control if you're going too fast

Idk my commute around Seattle most people are still going over the speed limit by 5-15 mph in 60mph zone. Definitely not California speeds but there are more people who do stick to slower speeds. If you are driving around when people are going to work they are probably speeding if they can. I mean that isnt the reason for the traffic, but it probably contributes to it some. Seattle has grown so fast and we dont have the infrastructure to keep up with the growth. On top of that it seems like the city planners are purposefully making traffic worse to try to get more people to bike or use public transportation. I forget who but one elected representative literally said they were doing this years ago and i think they still are in office.

In Washington some parts of the freeways are five lanes wide. The right lane might be going 50 but you better believe that left lane is probably going 80. When the freeway is three lanes the right will go 60 and the left will go 80. When the freeway is down to two lanes where I live, people will go 75 in the left and 55 in the right, because it slows down.

I grew up in and currently live in seattle. We think just as poorly about the driving skills and habits of people from across the country that have moved here in there adult life as you think of us. A fair amount of native seattelites do drive under the speed limit(not me but it is not crazy uncommon), but a lot of the people that have moved here drive really aggressively (which isnt helped by the horrible traffic here). Tbh though i admit i have driven the wrong way on roundabouts in the past if it is in a residential area and no other cars are on the road, no harm done and saves time. The roundabouts are annoying but I do think for residential areas they do help prevent people from speeding through which is why I am glad they had them by my middle school growing up.

We had a friend visiting from CT who kept yelling at us to "close the gap" and it nearly made me feral. Totally agree about people not knowing how to use roundabouts, but I think when Miki says people go the wrong way on them, it's likely the little suburban ones in neighborhoods she's referring to. I've never seen anyone go the wrong way on a large one, but so many folks treat the yield like a stop!

Their is this belief that roundabouts are literally better than lights or stop signs. The issue is that the locals don't know how to us a round about and they always forget to indicate. It is considered the region with the most dangerous roads in nz because most of the locals don't know the road rules.

in Europe you need mandatory +22 classes of an hour each before you get your road exam. In (some places in) America, you drive around a parking lot.

Roundabouts are safer because you basically need to go slower unless you're a Nascar driver, which means that accidents, when they happen, have lower speeds involved and thus less harm/less serious injuries are caused

Omfg the old people around here are atrocious 😂 They dont know the rules, they sit on red instead of turning, they cannot stay in their lane and they will cut anyone off, almost causing crashes, just to go 10 below 🤦🏾‍♀️ Everytime I look over its a decrepid person squinting... HARD

I come from Colorado. My biggest gripe is that they're the most PASSIVE aggressive drivers ever! They'll stop in the middle of the road with full traffic to let someone merge in who just pulled up from a side road. There are so many zipper merges and no-one will let people in, but they don't pull up to close the gap.

Here in Austin everybody drives over the speed limit xD the speed limit is 80 on the highways…people on the highways are driving at 100 and it’s scary… people don’t follow the speed limit…you never see people driving at the speed limit or below it o.o

I’m from Alaska, I think that’s just common for states that have dangerous road conditions in the winter. I just moved to Texas and the drivers here horrify me! You’ll probably also notice that when the light turns red, drivers don’t speed through anyway and they use turn signals even when they’re in turn lanes

As someone who took drivers ed in Washington I can tell you that they teach us to go 5 over the speed limit, but traffic sucks. There are just those few people that go slow and screw it up for everyone

What I find ironic is that all the people validating this are also transplants into the Seattle area. The transplants from sunny climes are the ones who do 50 when there’s a drizzle, every local knows that it’s safer to go the speed limit rather than hit the brake every 30 seconds on a slippery icy highway because it actually INCREASES statistically your chance of causing an accident. Also, we all grew up know how to drive safely when there’s low visibility

Lol I am from Vancouver and my brother is now Californian. This is so my story too!!We vancouvrite drive under speed limit. (Which if normal) every time I go Cali, I am like omg I am scared, everyone is speeding 😮lol
@jnkperaza
@jnkperaza Жыл бұрын
Actually, in Cali, there’s a driving law on the freeway that says you have to go with the “flow of traffic”. So even if the speed limit says 70, if the flow of traffic is 80 or even 85, police won’t pull you over because you’re just going with the flow. You can actually get pulled over if you’re going too slow for the flow of traffic. Now if the sign says “maximum speed limit”, then there’s a chance you will get pulled over if you speed beyond that.

So many drivers don't know how to get onto a roundabout. They just stand at the entrance for 5 minutes, hoping someone will tell them to go.
