Women like Ice Spice don't even get on my nerves anymore. When I see a girl who is constantly speaking on how she's better than other girls (especially based on appearance or sexual prowess) I just kind of feel bad for her. It doesn't matter how much money, fame, or attention you have if you're constantly in a one-sided competition or performing for male attention non stop, something deeper is wrong. I've had "friends" like that & just pray for them and continue living my life knowing I am loved and respected & I have my dignity. That's really what it all boils down to. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves.

It's funny how the ones who claim to be progressive often live and talk by the stereotypes... Like people calling themselves non binary because they don't do what a "classical" individual of their gender would do. Yeah, I'm sure that helps destroy these stereotypes so that we all don't have to live after them... Just confirm them with your behaviours and sayings, I don't see an issue with THAT... same in your example. Oh no, Spiderman is just for the dicks out there, let's show that women we can't have that.

Aside from the whole Central C debacle I don’t think Ice Spice is a girls girl. And if we’re really be honest most of these girls in female rap aren’t girls girls because they make it their business to compare their features, relationships, etc. They preach about being better than each other in every song and Ice Spice is a perfect example of it. Most of her music is about comparing herself to other girls and putting down other girls. Central C is the problem in that little triangle situation but regardless Ice Spice has never been a girls girl.

I really appreciate you making this video. As a little girl with undiagnosed ADHD, I never really managed to foster longterm friendships with other girls. I to this day tick a lot of the pick-me boxes due to my interests. But at the end of the day, I truly appreciate the few but meaningful relationships with women I have built over the last few years. But the loneliness of feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place, (understandable) mistrust from women and objectification/sexualisation from men, has honestly been rough.

I’m really off put when I’m talking to a man and I realize it’s looking at me like meat instead of listening to my words but with some men I feel this like they are just have a conversation with me as a person. Pick me is when you talk as if your interests are better than other ones like I don’t wear make up but I don’t bring it up and point it out or imply to wear make up is less than somehow so it’s not having the different interests it’s talking about them as if they are superior to other more feminine interests.

Pick Me has been around for soooooooooooo long. Prob back in my parents day but back in middle school we used to call Pink the pick me popstar. She was such a woman hater and wanted to be liked so bad and took every opportunity to point out how she wasn’t like the other girls. Ironic that she when I heard the word come back into fashion it was to describe her. The issue that I have with the term being used today is that this new wave of feminism, and a lot of people don’t even consider it to be feminism because of these criticisms, is that the idea of feminism and being a girls girl is very white-woman centered, very middle-class centered, very need to have access to the Internet centered. And this isn’t just my opinion there’s been a lot of research about how this newest wave of feminism isn’t inclusive and focuses on a small group of women. It’s very non-inclusive and by design, unfortunately, exclusive. I think it’s why the Me-Too movement hasn’t picked up as much steam as it could have. When we used it, we used it to describe an internal issue of self hatred for things that were societally considered feminine and the strife between just being who you are as a person vs needing to be able to survive and thrive in a patriarchal society, but now it seems to be like if you don’t fit mold of this new age of feminism, whose values are based on white, rich, and “liberal” American values, then your chances of not being a girls are much higher. When in fact, women are not a monolith. We are very diverse and so are the pressures against us. Def look up fourth wave feminism bc you are understanding the issue fr. For me, I struggled getting along with girls when I was younger. I was the only melanin-skinned kid in my class until MIDDLE SCHOOL, I “grew up” early. Girls used to ask me at like 9 who did my lips, where’d I get my butt. Etc. I didn’t fit the mold, physically, and thusly, I was shunned. It didn’t help, I’m sure, that I was new. In third grade. Cliques were established. I was from the south and moved north. I had an accent. I liked different foods. I had different hobbies. Boys were just much more chill. And so that was my safe space for a long time. It wasn’t until late into high school and college that I found female companionship and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. We just get each other. We speak without talking. I can’t tell my husband so many things I tell my girl! It’s a safe space for me. And I think all women need that. Hair salons used to that space for women. U kno they’re trained in so much including recognizing DV and abuse. Men have barber shops. We need more spaces like that. Imo.

this is very interesting. had no idea about ice spice but i know ariana got her lashings and even as a huge fan i can't say it wasn't justified. but i think one question a lot of people need to start asking is: did this woman at any point in time identify as a girls girl? just because someone doesn't identify as a pick me, doesn't make them automatically a girls girl. i don't think ice spice or ariana grande have ever really identified as girls girls. they have their female friendships, of course, but they (and im mostly speaking with ariana as im more of a fan of her) haven't really ever shown that. like ariana's songs are clearly about getting whatever man she wants at whatever cost 🤷🏽‍♀️

I think my issue with the term girl's girl comes from this policing of behavior by strangers online. In the case of Ariana, I feel like this intense backlash she received over her "homewrecking" was just unserious and weird because there are other harmful/odd things she's said and done that would warrant a reaction like that (her intense tanning, blaccent, or co-opting of Japanese language for aesthetics) but instead what's happening is this weird virtue signaling over things that in the grand scheme of things we don't know enough about as the public and shouldn't care that much about because it doesn't affect us. Whether or not Ice Spice is a girl's girl has nothing to do with actual feminism and change and its soooo frustrating to see the term girl's girl be watered down code for feminism or at least people treating it like these women are behaving like Pearl is.

After years of being a girls girl and a self proclaimed feminist, i realised that a girls world is so messy and just stopped having or making friends with girls. Too much emotions. Too much misinterpretations, misrepresentations, misunderstandings and the sensitivity is beyond. Being one is enough, being in a room full of girls with different personalities and moodswings is another. We're always pitted against eachother, we always end up going through what we said we dont ever believe in etc. and we're always tested so badly. Our friendships, our beliefs especially when it comes to men. We're always the victims of our own undoing. Just done with it. Even celebs are so messy for it.

I wish more research would have gone into whats actualy happend with the madeline situation, because a little bit of research would have told you ice spice was the one to have first claimed to be a girls girl and then she did wat she did and clearly mocked madeline so people are 100% allowed to call her out for that , nobody cared weather they were dating or not again a little bit of research would have told you it was the lack of information given to madeline about what they were doing that really got people riled up, they've also made their business public people dont need to know the full truth because theyve shown what they wanted to, what could possibly be the bigger picture? ice spice is only really liked because of her body and the fact shes light skin so its no suprise people are tired, if shes didnt have that none of you would be defending her or finding ways to excuse her behaviour, her musical abilities are also questionable the way people look to defend light skin women, who fit the beauty standard in a way that they would never do for others never ceases to astound me because why are people infantilising her and acting like shes some innocent little girl who had no idea about what was going on shes a grown ass woman shes aware, and there is 100% an expectation for women to look out for each other because if not us who else? Its certainly not men, if we dont look out for and help eachother then there really is no going forwardz im really shocked people are finding ways to let ice spices actions slide, while not everything celebrities do are our business, they represent us their followers, thats literally why theyre celebrities in the first place, so whys it such a suprise for us to dislike and repremand actions that go agains their whole character, the very reason we follow them, its also importaint to realise the majority of ice spices followers are women so she will 100% get far more hate because most women disaprove of such actions, central cees audience is mainly male and as we know those men dont care because they lack integrity, i wish a little more research would have been put in
