Hi Austin, I love watching you rebuild these Toyotas. You should do a video of your mechanical background and current business outside KZbin. Seems it would be hard to turn a profit with how much hours you put into every small detail. But I love the attention to detail!

It's been my experience Always use OEM Toyota parts especially oil filters,ball joints, wheel Bearings. Most importantly oil filters I've had 2 yota motors go bad because I used over the counter one's.

Great job on the powder coat. Next to learn would be some basic nickel plating for nuts and bolts. Several good tutorials are available.

Interesting setup for pressing the hub back in. I've always done it by pressing the hub down into the bearing, rather than up into the bearing. Good stuff👍🍺

Austin, I have been following you for quite some time, I'm really impressed with your willingness to go above and beyond, I looked forward to this episode because Just got done rebuilding my 05 Tundra Limited front end, my truck only has 43k original miles, I was worried about the age of the components more than the milage. I used moog parts, ( I know, much controversy about Moog but I never had a problem with them and I have been tooling since I was 12, I'm now 70yrs old. I sandblasted everything and sprayed por 15, I think it's better than powder coating, again jmo. I replaced the wheel bearings with national I got from Advanced auto along with new axles, I heard good things about them, also they have a 3 yrs free replacement and lifetime parts replacement, so I replaced upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, replaced all the bushings on the steering rack, stabilizer bar , replaced the stabilizer stand offs, replaced the dust shields because mine were shot all new wheel bearings, seals and replaced the seals in the front diff. You did exactly the same thing I did when replacing the wheel bearings, unlike yours, I did not have a locking nut on the back of the spindle, just a ring that pressed over the the ABS ring, the torque from the axle nut holds it all together. I took a ton of pics, from start to finish. The truck looks great and rides like new. I am looking forward to this project, I used to own a 2002 taco 4x4. Keep up the great work and videos. Jay

Nice work good grief a claw hammer? You should invest in some good electric 3/8 impact and an electric 3/8 ratchet. I currently use the stubby Milwaukee 3/8 impact 12v with 6.0 battery and it is absolutely a beast. Also there ratchet line. Not trying to sell there stuff but work smarter and not harder. You’ll thank me a lot later when you get old and you have problems with your hands twisting and turning will take it’s toll.I’ve been watching for a while now and love my 2 yotas.

Nice work! I just rebuilt the front end of my 90 Yoda. I didn't replace the brass sleeves the the axle rides on, now I have one seizing up and making a ton of noise. Now I have to take it all apart again and replace it.😡 Hopefully you won't have the same problem.

Is the 4wd conversation only a good idea for that generation Tacoma prerunner or would it be doable on a 2012 base model?
@jaydenmcfadyen3301
@jaydenmcfadyen3301 3 жыл бұрын
The pre runners are a 4wd chassis without the 4wd components. So everything just bolts in. Doing the swap on a base 2wd easiest way is to solid axle swap and run custom suspension all the way around.

Any idea on what it takes to convert a 98 2.3liter 5 speed manual to a 4x4? I had the whole top end of the engine rebuilt a bit ago. Now that that’s finished I was looking at maybe getting a 4x4 or converting mine.
