Good Video. I've been powder coating for about 15 years now and started with the Eastwood gun. For those wanting to get into powder coating, remember to tape off the areas you don't want powder to get in and also its always easier and uses less powder if you heat the part up and then shoot it. it doesn't have to be a set temp, I usually shoot it after its been in the oven at 400 degrees. It will get inside the tight spaces easier because it hits "flow out" the second it touches the part.

cool stuff youngster. I've never actually seen a powder coating performed, I had the loose idea of how it was performed but I never seen the gun in action and stuff. So thank you very much for that, you seem to be very knowledgeable young man and time and Society you got a upper hand on a lot of these big mouth know it all people who actually are worth pretty much nothing period keep it up!

I once saw a home-rebuilt custom 1930s automobile at a car show and the person had used a silver/chrome undercoat and 22 layers of different colors of what was called "Kandicoat" (not sure of spelling) translucent top layers. The entire car looked like it was a ever-changing liquid rainbow of the old merthiolate first-aid liquid. It was blindingly beautiful. It took him six months to paint it.

I became familiar with powder coating for exterior parts. Jeep steps, Jeep bumpers, tow bars & such. 1 complaint I have is the finish loses it shine REAL quick. I used to shoot a coat of gloss black paint over it to restore it. BUT, my biggest complaint, maybe because it is in an outdoor environment is by & by the metal under the coating will begin to rust. And soon you will see the coating start to lift, then, fall off. Maybe, under the hood powder coating does not suffer this, but outside it sure does. Currently, the steps on my motorhome are a mess. I have removed them from the coach & disassembled them in my garage and am in the process of removing the coating & sanding off all the rust. I intend to use gloss black paint on the arms & I bought some truck bed spray for the steps themselves. If the steps start to look bad in the future, I just grab a rattle can & give em a shot. Good as new. You cant do that with powder coating. No, I am not a powder coat fan. I will wager a guess that powder coating is used by mfgs because it is probably cheaper to coat a part than painting. And/or quicker. I'm willing to bet. !

hi bro good results but wow what a process... i have powder coated in factories for a living and the settings on the gun are 25 for coating 10 is for second coating over powder coated parts.. on our guns we half the voltage to re coat or second coat the part ... ...we de grease part then acid etch it rinse then chuck it in the oven to dry and degas it ..use paint prep on it..then air dry it with compressed air then spray it then bake it all part come out flawlessly with full adhesion .. prep takes about 20 min withoven preheated to 214 deg c... not picking on you you have done an awsome job just seems like alot of exta work

Looks good Young man, I have some info that may help you, when you heat up the part the first time then clean and reheat you should NOT have to do that if you get a Steam Cabinet....I will say first check with the Company you buy your Products from BC they may have something in the formula that does not like a steam cleaned parts... OK back to the Steam Clean Cabinet...... WE use them for Cleaning BIG parts, like Engine blocks or Transmissions its like a Pressure cooker for parts it will make your prep alot faster and you wont need to buy the cleaner once its run through the cabinet you can go right to your First coating.....again check with maker of Product first but we used to do it with Show Parts for my Chevelle years ago with NO issues! They go by a few names, parts washer.....(NOT the fluid de-grease kind) normally they are like a Pressure cooker of sorts they will have a Locking handle because they get HOT! If you want to do it on the CHEAP go find an OLD Dishwasher Preferably stainless steel inside ......u can use that too for about 85% or more of the same results.... we have used them at the race track a few times and ran parts through the high heat cycle 2x , after 30 mins you get brand new part.......again this is the cheap way and i cant say how long it will last but for a few items a year and you can put it away when not in use it might work for you!! Good Luck EDIT: oh just thought of another you can use but they will cost you some $$ is a Heated Pressure washer like they type you clean deck with ......they come in high heat but go for 2500 ish....but if find one some one is getting rid off..hell free is free!! Cow}:-o)

@@adampaganelli4891 So i keep getting some fisheyes on cast aluminum parts, is this typical? I removed a casting mark on a caliper hanger from a front nissin caliper, and noticed that the finish on the part where i have removed the casting mark is very smooth, and doesnt have fish eyes like the rest of the part. Do you have any tips to get a smooth finish on parts that have small crevices like calipers? I guess i'm shooting for a super deep smooth finish, maybe its not achievable on these cast parts without polishing first.

what kind of air compressor have you been using for the blast cabinet? Been reading up on a lot of forums stating you need some beefy specs to maintain blasting for more then a couple minutes.
@adampaganelli48916 жыл бұрын
I’m using a older one doesn’t have crazy power or anything it’s like 5.8 at 90 cfm I think. Does the job, occasionally I will have to let the compressor catch up if going full on for a bit. The key when your running a smaller compressor is to make sure you have clean air because the small compressor will get hot and add moisture into your air

I'm looking to get into powder coating myself. This way super cool to watch the process. I'm basically wanting to do dirt bike, ATV, and automotive stuff. So the dirt bike hubs really hit close to home. The color was awesome. I even thought the chrome actually looked good as well. I am curious what you are doing for the wheels and spokes as well. Again I'm super impressed and you made it look so easy. I had a few questions though. For the masking off the surface area's, what kind of tape did you use? For the chrome finish, could you use a clear powder coat to really make it shine? Not sure if you've experimented with that. Are you planning on applying a clear powder to the hubs? Or would that not change anything. As for the shock body black or a darker bronze or cooper color would look bitchin I think. Keep up the good work,
@adampaganelli48916 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! -I use high heat masking tape it comes with the Eastwood gun. - yes if you only use chrome you need to put a clear coat over or it will loose it’s shine. -And no need to use a clear coat on what I did since that top coat is strong!

Can someone please help me understand? I’m very new to this i just bought a 4x4x6 oven that we haven’t even got in yet but I’m doing as much research as i can. The question i have I’ve watched on KZbin and seen hundreds of different answers. My question revolves around multiple coats and clear. 1) everything i see says you should always use a clear coat for durability and to keep the chrome colors bright. 2) where I’m confused is multiple colors for example if i do chrome and let it cure as recommended do i put the transparent on when hot or back at room temp? 3) when putting on the transparent color i put back into oven. Let part get to tell and do the recommended cure time. ( will the chrome coat being cured twice hurt it)? 4) when that comes out do i add the clear when hot or room temp? After i add the clear and put in oven and let part get to temp and cure at recommended temp. ( will the chrome coat going through 3 cycles and the transparent 2 cycles hurt them)? I can’t seam to find anything on this that’s consistent
@adampaganelli48915 жыл бұрын
1 yes you should use a clear for chrome if you are leaving it as chrome. If you put another color on top that will act as the clear coat. 2 Depends on your shooting set up, prismatic powders recommends spraying second coat at room temperature. (They are assuming you have a professional powder gun). Eastwood gun which I use does not have the power to do this so I need to wait until the part cools to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and then spray.
@adampaganelli48915 жыл бұрын
3- Curing the chrome twice will not hurt it.
@adampaganelli48915 жыл бұрын
4- I have never done 3 coats so I would not be able to assist you with this accurately

Thank you for yr wealth of knowledge i appreciate it. One last question i have the Eastwood duel stage or duel volt powder. With this should i wait for my prism powder to hit room temp or the 150? Is that why they have duel volts so one is first coat and second level for second coat.? So knowing what i have what do u suggest for my second coat? Room or 150? Thanks again
