In depth video showing how we powder coat a ktm dirt bike and restore the original vin with a two tone powder coating job involving a vinyl pull. This was requested to be done by the owner as he wanted the Vin to be very readable on the frame and we do not have a way to etch the bike frame. Enjoy! Question for ya. Did you already know that the orange finish would not be affected by the black coat on the neck? I ask because I assume the whole frame would need to be painted black to not throw off the final orange color/finish on the neck vs the rest of the frame.

That’s a nice touch plugging the threads. Most of the time you would have to tap those out.

That's very cool. Nice work with the transfer letters. The last frame I had PC they put a perfectly cut piece of tape over the VIN vs the previous one PC over the VIN. The taped one came out really nice. The bare metal VIN shows up beautifully. This is with a stamped VIN # of course. Thanks for the video.

Just was searching any information about KTM vin, because after sanding it has dissaperad on my son bike. So , Dan, could you share, does the KTM vin is just made thru paint, i mean that if we remove the paint , we would not see it on metall frame ???? Would be thankfull for answer ) . And would be perfect to see some additional pictures if possible ...

He's just had a quick question for you about powder coating. I have started doing custom powder coating. Not totally sure when I need to use a primer and when it is good enough to just put the colour straight on. What is your rule of thumb for priming or not priming? Thanks

Depends on use and location. Hardly ever use it on aluminum. Cast I always use it. Steel if they want corrosion protection or outdoor use.

How do you prep a old motorcycle gas tank , so it don’t blow up in your oven

Clean it out, I think that last one we did had gas and rust in it. We caps off the drain plug, filled it with vinegar and let it break up the rust, then we dumped it and rinsed with water, then we blew it out really fast with dry air and put in oven to dry, then we just coated it. I think the owner ended up treating it after we coated it.

Depends, do you have a professional shop or now. I would suggest for home use a sand blaster or air craft stripper and lots of time.

We strip it with a chemical then blast. Prob 15 mins.

We never use that much powder when we paint. Too big of a cloud.

At work we usually have 15 to 25 in powder and 2,9 to 3,7 in air pressure. Voltage 80 and and amp around 20. But this is not written in stone
