Thanks! I do not torque the spokes, I just go by feel. When tightening the spokes every few rides I go in a pattern to ensure they are tightened evenly. Once you build a few wheels you have an idea how tight they should be, but a spoke torque wrench would be nice to have for sure!

This charges the part and allows the powder to stick. The powder is electrically charged when it comes out of the gun to the part has to attract the powder for the powder to stay on the part before baking.

I'm not sure of the exact temperature of the part when the red is sprayed. I would guess somewhere around 125-150 degrees. It has to be hot enough for the powder to stick but not too hot where it starts to fluidize.

Powdercoating holds up great, no chips just the average wear on the top edge where the tire meets. Any coating will wear on that spot. The rims were actually diamondyzed.

Hey man , I was wondering how everything held up after ? I really like your video I'm currently doing a similar project using DID Stx rims . The only thing I question is powder coating the mounting surfaces for the sprocket and rotors . Did it give you abnormal runout or brake pulsation or drag ? Did the spokes install easy with powder coat on ? And do you know if the stock honda hub is good enough quality to powder coat?( heat to 400f) I know t6 aluminum is but the hub quality isn't quite t6 . Hopefully you can answer my questions thanks and keep doing the videos they're awesome
@CameronNiemela

All the powdercoating has held up great! The brake rotor and sprocket surfaces were fine after coating, but you could always mask them off which I should have done. The spokes install as normal. Never had a problem baking stock hubs.

For the bearing removal, are you hammering them out with the screwdriver blade against the inner race or outer race of the bearing. Applying shock force to the inner race of a roller bearing (that you intend to reuse) can cause brinelling on the races and/or balls, possibly affecting bearing life. Great video! Powder coat turned out very nice.
@CameronNiemela
@CameronNiemela 10 жыл бұрын
Thank You! Although I somewhat agree with you, I did this video trying to use the minimum amount of tools. I have a blind bearing puller myself but most people don't so I showed how to remove the bearings with basic tools. The bearings held up great for the few years I used them after this video.
@HonorNecris
@HonorNecris 10 жыл бұрын
OneOne9 Creations Yeah, chances are you'll do no harm, but it's just good practice. Apply force (when possible) to the bearing race that is used in the press-fit - as it can be the inner or the outer.

Great video. I got myself an eastwood kit and have been following your process closely with the same colors actually, chrome base with trans red on top. Question. Did you ever encounter problems with the ground when spraying the second coat? I used a self tapping screw in a spoke hole as my ground, which worked great for the chrome base, but when I went to spray the red only half the hub would take the red. I see the screw worked great for your ground so I'm wondering if you ever had problems with it and did you use a machine screw not a self tapping? maybe thats my problem. Just curious of your two cents. Thanks and again, great vid! Big help!
@CameronNiemela
@CameronNiemela 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Mitch, glad you found the video helpful. Doing a second coat is always tough once the base has cured and cooled. I've had similar issues with the translucent not wanting to stick, the screw definitely helps but spraying at a certain temperature solved the problem for me. So after pulling the part out of the oven after the base coat, I would let it cool until the rack was just cool enough to touch, usually a 2-3 minute wait. Then spray the color and it will stick much better when the part is still hot, but not hot enough where the powder will start curing. If you have a temp gun you can really find the sweet spot. Maybe try the process with a test part first.

Thank you for watching the video! The powercoating on the hubs will last quite a while but the rims take a lot more abuse and won't hold up as long. If you are careful changing tires then I would guess you can get at least 100 hours before the rims start to get chipped.
