@@freshiephotography1872 yeah we all had that stack of discs back in the day.but the great thing about that era is it pushed the middle man between real music and the fans further aeay from the hands of record producers. While ot was dark times. It fostered the need and market required for artists to be entirely independent and make money as directly as possible. Most youtube stars with over 100k followere make more money from their music than someonr with a fairly decent record deal from back then. I remember Jay and The Doctor going on Kyle and Jackie-O's show and tearing the whole industry apart and talking about this very issue and record labels literally dropping bands like You Am I for acts they can pay nothing and make more from like the losers of Australian Idol. So while it was causing issues for artists at the time. (As if people were paying for You Am I's album i am sure they wouldnt get dropped) but it also allowed for people like today to exist without a single drop of Record company funding. Record companies knew this at the time. Hence why Podwerfinger pre pandemic had 7.2k subscribers. They literally were one of the only bands in australia that wete making enough money for youtube to not be the same as their albums being stolen. I dunno plenty of reasons the aussie music industry used to cannibalise its own artists. But that whole music piracy thing really did free all of our artists from the chains of poverty the Record industry here created. This is why i love that Powderfinger are actually growing their YT Fan base now days with live music and interviews ect. Because thats where the money is. And their record company have clearly wised up to the digital space.

I was at this concert in Brisbane & it was bittersweet .... it was sooo amazing but yep, when they played "These Days" as their last song in the set, I cried & cried .... end of a remarkable era .... nearly the entire crowd of thousands & thousands were crying .... Powderfinger firstly started in Brisbane in a sound studio in Vulture Street, so us Brisbanites are proud to claim them as their band- which made this last ever performance even more impacting- they saved Brisbane for their last ever concert- Powderfinger are proud of where they came from .... but, they are revered all over Australia .... such an amazing band .... check out more of their stuff, it's all so amazing .... 💯💯💯💯💯💯 .... XOXO

Hard to explain how big Powderfinger were in Australia in their day. They had 7 albums - the second hit no 2 and the last 5 all topped the charts. At festivals, they’d be sharing top billing with overseas acts like Oasis.

One of my all time favourite Bands. These days always leaves me tearful and reflecting. Here is a bit of background on the song; "‘These Days’ is a melancholic yet passionate description of the challenges that we face during our lives. Powderfinger lead singer Bernard Fanning, whose brother was dying of cancer at the time of writing, examines the anguish of loss and futility while still holding a dignified sense of resilience."

Legends. Saw these guys live so many times in the 2000's. All their songs are great. My Kind of Scene, My Happiness, Bless My Soul, Whatever Makes You Happy, Love Your Way, Sunsets, Burn Your Name, Baby I've Got You on my Mind, How Far Have We Really Come?, Sail The Widest Stretch (acoustic one's best). They used to to do a brilliant live performance of Inner City Blues during their concerts, but I haven't found a video of it. The singer Bernard Fanning solo is also amazing!

They released an album last year which was a collection of unreleased songs from their career, and did a one off online concert as well. They were offered the opportunity to play at the AFL grand final, but turned it down as they were not making a comeback as a band and wanted other artists who are up and coming to have the spotlight.

One thing I always really respected about Powderfinger is that they were an Australian band who STAYED in Australia, and built their legend here. There have been Aussie artists over the years who got big here, then at the first sniff of international attention they go overseas to hit it big. Often it doesn't really work, and they come back and have to rebuild their local audience. Missy Higgins is an obvious example of that. Her debut album was so massive she could have played 2000 seat theatres in Australia for the rest of her life just on those songs. But she went to the US and spent years just trudging along on the lesbian folk festival circuit. Powderfinger just seemed to devote their time and energy to Australia, and as such they became a local arena-filling act. Much like John Farnham before them.

Last night not only Jimmy Barnes live but also Tina Arena Live. Awesome. I think Isaha Firebrace was also on early. Tina stole the show I have to say with her song Church (wow! powerful) and then Chains and finally finishing of with ACDC Back in Black. Man that lady can belt out any tune, even hard rock! Even Casey Donovan who did an awesome Lady Gaga song just smashed it.

A very emotional night when they finished- I was there and the amount of love from the crowd in their home city of Brisbane was huge. Used to see them play as the lunchtime band at University of Queensland back in the early’90’s, before they had a record out- they were good but not outstanding at that time and they suddenly switched it up over a couple of years and became something special. A few years after they split, the lead guitarist Ian Haug joined my favourite Australian band of all time The Church and has released two albums with them. A new Church album is due for release in March 2022 with Ian on guitar.

Powderfinger had a 20 year career and were Australia's biggest band for most of that time. They chose to end while they were still at their best. We've have many wonderful artists but Powderfinger will always have a special place in Australian music history.

I saw PowderFinger on their last tour, they played right across Australia and NZ, including most regional towns and cities. Once again, the US missed out. This is on the soundtrack of my life.

The bass player is a former bosses cousin. They used to visit our restaurant. Great bunch of Aussie guys.

Powderfinger are an amazing Aussie band. This song hits a raw nerve for so many people for so many scenarios. This song came out when my Pop started getting dementia and always brings tears to my eyes as he slowly disappeared as the man I once knew.

This was the encore at their final concert in Brisbane. That’s why it’s emotional

Dam that made me tear up so bad. I saw the Finger 6 times over the years from small gigs to the Big Day Out. So many memories.

Sat front row at their final Melbourne concert at Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Bloody great gig as was every other time I saw them live. But being front row… that was a fluke of luck. Love these guys.

Saw these guys live after managing to get in to the front row at Big Day Out music festival in Australia in 2005 (heavy metal band was on before them, so we forced out way in as those fans cleared out). Brilliant stuff. Another time I saw them in a more relaxed atmosphere, also at Big Day Out in 2010 and it was such a happy and chilled vibe in the audience and I could not wipe the smile off my face. Such an awesome band.
