The fact that you mention in the intro of the video that this might be a reupload when I know it is makes me wonder what NuX thought about it
@ScienceofLoud6 ай бұрын
Oh NUX haven't even seen it yet, I don't typically let companies see the videos ahead of release, and I wouldn't change anything on their request anyway. The reupload was because I made a mistake when describing the technology and had to pull the video down to film a correction. That was entirely my decision and nothing to do with upsetting anyone over swan buggery.

Good on ya for showing the internals. I for one appreciate the science behind it being a tech/gearhead. All good isolated switch mode power supplies follow the same topology. The issue is filtering out the PWM switching frequency out of the secondary output coil. Once you achieve that through a snubber network of inductors, caps etc then you can get very clean stable DC voltage, and depending on the PWM chip can push very high current with little waste heat. Rarely however is each output over 500mA. Some PWM chips can do 1500mA or more per output, but the components get more numerous. Great video as always!

I purchased a Nux Zeus as it has everything I want. Plenty of sockets, multiple sockets with multiple voltages and a USB socket for powering my iPad while I take online lessons. Felt solidly built and no noise detected on my rig. All at a reasonable price, so great stuff. Sadly it had to go back as the USB socket wasn’t working. I tried multiple devices with multiple cables, all of which worked with other USB adaptors and sockets with my tester confirming the devices were pulling about 1A, less than the maximum 1.5A the socket is supposed to deliver. Fingers crossed it’s a one off 🤞

What’s the maximum drawn on the Zeus ⚡️? I’m used to a 2000 mA restriction?! I have a CS12 and was gonna add a CS7 to my silly big board. But would this be better? Already daisy chaining some lower mA drives and running an OCD, Wampler Belle and MXR 10 band stereo eq at 18v (they can be moved to a different board). With BigskyMx Timeline and H90 I’m looking at combining the last one from two outputs. Is that necessary? Eg the CS7 could power a HX Stomp from one output as long as overall draw was less than 2 mA. Please educate????

Cool really. And yeah, can confirm about severe noise by random power supply that's not for audio gear. Also yes at first when I looked at one of these I wondered why they were so large and expensive hah. But I managed to daisy chain just few of my low power pedals with good single power supply I got from one of the pedals, just enough for all.
@Mr.Goldbar6 ай бұрын
If I wanna power even more pedals, do they make an even bigger version? Or should I just stack a couple of these together?
@ScienceofLoud6 ай бұрын
You could certainly grab a second one of these - although as every outlet on this supplies 500mA, and most analog pedals draw far less than 100mA, it's entirely possible to daisy chain a few low draw pedals from a single outlet. That would further extend Zeus' functionality without having to purchase a whole other supply.

@veers0r6 ай бұрын
Why does there need to be a switching power supply per outlet? I'm probably missing something but I think one bigger switching power supply and an isolating transformer per outlet should do. What am I missing?
@HansNederland6 ай бұрын
transformers are working on AC! A switching power supply also has a transformer (or at least an inductor (but then it is NOT isolated)). You want an extra transformer? Isolating transformers are good for (guitar) signals, not for DC.
@veers0r6 ай бұрын
@@HansNederland I somehow didn't think of the fact that (most) pedals run on DC. Thanks for enlightening me. :)
@neysonza6 ай бұрын
So that it can be completely isolated. One transformer cant be shared by multiple outlets as it defeats the purpose of isolating each power slot. Some cheaper power supplies uses one transformer and claim it to be isolated. Well this one is truly isolated.

I wonder if the size of the power supply can be reduced by using an external power supply plug to give it the right voltage. Like how they reduced the size of a Micro Dark by using a dedicated power supply thats outside of the amp. Aside from that, the PWM integration is pretty genius.
@ScienceofLoud6 ай бұрын
There are a lot of other power supplies on the market that reduce their size in this way - the new Walrus Audio supplies spring to mind. They'll have a small output board which mounts to the pedalboard, and have that connected to a laptop style powerbrick which does all of the mains switch mode conversion. However, it's a little odd to sell your power supply on its tiny size when all you've really done is put half the power supply in a different box further down the cable. Especially since those powerbricks are often off the shelf parts and half the development of the product becomes filtering out all the noise from the third party switching supply.
@CorNigrum6 ай бұрын
@@ScienceofLoud Maybe there are some benefits when it comes to heat and interference by moving the bulk of the conversion away from low-power circuits, including the power supply enclosure itself and all the other little noisemakers you have on your board.
