Just a quick look at a power assist drywall box, a box is one of the most important of the automatic drywall taping tools, allowing the user to coat drywall joints with ease.
The Power-Assist drywall box makes box is easier to operate, especially on vertical drywall joints, or high ceilings, making the taping job easier for the professional Drywall finisher.

Thanks, depends on what type of work you do. If you do mostly stand up sheets with vertical joints, definitely then power assist, huge difference. Myself I do mostly houses with horizontal joints so I prefer the non-power assist as they apply the mud a lot cleaner and horizontal joints are easy to push into anyway just by leaning into the wall. And ceiling I can push up with my legs. However, occasionally I get involved in large commercial projects and can do hundreds of standup sheets and it's hard to get push-leverage at the bottom of the sheet or at the top of the sheet with a regular box, and it's a strain on the body, that's where the power assist make a huge difference and make the job very physically easy and fast.

I know this is slightly delayed but I hope you didn’t buy the assisted, mine pisses gear out of it, it’s the worst tool I own. I’m back to my standard 12” fat boy box. Waste of time these ones

Could you do a video on mud consistency? I purchased a corner box and 2 flat boxes. I used them for the first time today and it was not a good experience lol. I don’t know if the mud wasn’t mixed thin enough or what. It was quite difficult to get the mud to flow out of them. Do you lube the seals? No good vids on KZbin

Spray the seal entire inside of the box with silicone lubricant. I usually thin my mud with about a quart and a half of water per bucket (4.5 gsllons). The thinner the mud the easier it comes out of the box and slicks out. Just don't go too thin or you'll get more on the floor than the wall. Try different consistencies you'll know when it feels right.

I will do a video on that soon. Are they regular boxes or spring assist boxes? For regular boxes I thin the mud to the consistency that it doesn't drip out, just before that. For power assist boxes I go with a bit thicker consistency. For the angle box I go very thin, like pancake batter. It's really trial and error and experience to find out what works best. Don's advice is good too, get some silicone lubricant, it makes everything go easier. Petroleum based lubricants like WD40 can swell rubber over time.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with mine (12) but it’s the shittest box I’ve ever used 🎉

Do you know if it is ”told” to use a bit dryer mud with the automatic assist? Mine just makes a mess. The side against the drywall is just full of mud so i have to clean it of after every joint. (Sorry for my english, its not my main language 🙈)

Yes, should be a bit dryer, normal for some mud to be on the wall-side of box. But if it's dripping off or causing a mess on the wall, then the mud isn't dry enough. I wipe it off with a knife each time I refill. Also I found it seems to cause more mess on the horizontal wall joints. I don't need power assist on the horizontals because I can lean into them for pressure. So I disengage the springs and let them hang while doing horizontals. Works fine without springs engaged.

I find if I prefilled the bevels first before paper tape I run the 7in then skim with the 10 in its easier but you have to prefill

Have you had trouble closing the lid?
@Interior_Works

If the gear cog is not being released. If it's not releasing easily than its probably too much tension in the leaf spring on the wheel bar. I know some people have had to adjust the tension in that spring to make the mechanism more or less sensitive, for their own preferences. Another troubleshoot is if the box is filled so full that the pin bar is pushed to _above_ the very top notch of the gear cog, then it can get stuck there, making the lid not close, nothing happens when the box is placed against the wall, feels jammed. Check that it's going to the top notch and not past it. I have a tendency to overfill my 12 sometimes, after filling I quickly check the placement of the pin, and if it was pushed too high, I quickly manually release it and it instantly clicks down a notch, then there's no problem. Let me know if any of that helps

What is like for ceilings?
@Interior_Works
@Interior_Works 3 жыл бұрын
It flows out nice on ceilings with no effort, but the drawback is it can leave excess mud at the starts and stops. Can see this issue on the video I did running the 14". The stop mess issue can be solved by engaging the brake a small distance b4 stopping while lifting the wheels off the wall, which disengages the assist springs, or wiping the spots with a knife after. The effort of dealing with the mess spots probably equals the effort saved by the assist though. It's on stand up sheets that the power assist boxes really make a huge difference, I'm just laughing when I do verticals with the power assist.
