I think they might disagree with that characterization. Ann and Nancy are the obviously the heart of Heart, but I remember reading part of some interview with Ann or Nancy, in which she said that the contributions of the men (who started the band) were unfairly ignored by the media due to the novelty of being fronted by two women.

@Dubba-Oh-Sebin Sebin I just learned from another subscriber that the ladies didn’t form the band. The entire ensemble is extremely talented. Once I heard all the names I did recognize a few. Pate Benetar had a voice on par with Ann Wilson and she rocked every bit as hard. I believe you have reacted to one of her songs already-also the blond on guitar is Nancy Wilson, her sister. They started in 1967, and are yet another example of performers with real talent that requires little enhancing beyond amps on the guitars and the microphone for Ann. As you saw when they did Stairway to Heaven in front of Led Zeppelin, they are fearless and capable!

Love Benatar but the only song she rocked hard on was Heartbreaker. By 1985 she was 100% pop. I’ve seen both Pat and Heart live many times and both are great entertainers but Pat comes nowhere close to rocking as hard as Heart.

The unsung 'guitarist'-sister played the piano, guitar and sang on this video for Heart's greatest song ever. Ann was the #1 female vocalist in her genre for at least 24 yrs. Other talented all-female groups were The Bangles & The Go-Go's - each w/women who played multiple instruments and were fronted by a gifted lead vocalist (Hoff & Carlisle, respectively). Like Ann Wilson, Hoff & Carlisle had it all - inner-beauty & outer-beauty. Forever respect. So thankful I was already over 20 yrs old when all 3 groups were at their peak. 10's Across the board for 3 of the coldest pop-rock all-female groups of all time. 🔥.

There is no other band "similar to Heart". From the 70s to today, I can only think of two female rock vocalists who can measure up to Ann: Amy Lee from Evanescence, and Floor. Lzzy Hale of Halestorm's music is most similar, and although I absolutely adore her... not nearly in the same class. Another close-but-not-quite is Melissa Bonny from Ad Infinitum (and several other metal bands over the years).

Yes, but it is understandable that they got the other impression as I believe the production of the video intentionally tried to make it appear it was Nancy playing the lead. If you knew what to look for you could tell the difference but to the untrained or unfamiliar eye, it is easy to see how they could think otherwise. Nancy skill as a guitarist has fluctuated up and down over her career, but one only has to listen to the her acoustic intro to Crazy On You to know she is an excellent guitarist. I do miss Roger Fisher’s excellent lead guitar work from the early years.

The Pretenders, led by Chrissie Hynde are amazing, you may want to start with "I'll stand by you" or "Brass in Pocket", I've always loved their "Back on The Chaingang" and "Needle and the Damage Done" "forever Young" "love's a Mystery" "Just a Night in My Veins" but those are their less popular (but more heartfelt) songs. Vixen are an ALL female 80's hair rock band "Living on the edge of a Broken Heart" "How Much Love" "Love is a Killer" and "Cryin'" were their bigger songs. Warlock was led by Doro Pesch, her bigger hits were like "All we are" and "I Rule the Ruins". She held her own with the heavy weights. Then lesser known there's Kitty. They have "Brackish" "Cut Throat" Paperdoll" and "Spit". I highly suggest all of these women, AND raise you the one hit wonder Meredith Brooks "Bitch". you're welcome in advance.

@@afry6400 An hour south of Seattle would've been around Lacy/Tumwater in the 70's. In recent years you're lucky to get past Renton an hour south of where Northgate Mall used to be. Before I retired my wife and I had a house in Kenmore. Quite appropriate as Kenmore Washington is named for a wee village in Scotland. The one in Washington sits at the north end of Lake Washington and the one in Scotland sits at the north end of Loch Tay. Not precisely where my family is from in Scotland. Not enough female rockers were given their due credit back in the 80's, aside from heart, you had Lita Ford, Joan Jett, the all female hard rock band of Vixen, all of these paved the way for others. One could even include the Go-Gos into that list. And one of the other things that defines 80's music is how often it shows up in and influences the emotions of various shows and movies.
