Hello James...I wish to build a power hammer and have been scouring the internet for ideas. After viewing many websites and youtube vids it is clear to me that your design meets my needs in terms of clean design and capability without a loss of functionality. They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery so I'd like your permission to copy your design? If so, would you mind sharing a few more specifications regarding base dimensions, steel used, motor, amount of motor-to-drive pin offset for the hammer mechanism, etc? Or if you have a set of plans I'd be happy to purchase them from you? Thanks James and great job!!!

ah its about time you updated, looks like the final design is fairly sturdy and simple, on a nice rustic looking wood cabinet dont look like it strikes too hard but its fairly fast and looks like a japanese style hammer not unlike that of murray carter
@jamesball73225 жыл бұрын
Yes the hammer carter uses is a production model from japan and is a bit heavier ,it does function better and like with most all videos (no real justice unless standing in front of it )

What size tubes are you using? I have Clay Spencer's plans, but i don't need anything that big. I can eye ball the build, just need the material sizes so i dont build it only to have it fall apart on me.
@jamesball73224 жыл бұрын
The square tube used is 2” OD ,the ram is also 2” solid round and the anvil is 5” solid round Hit me up on messenger under James McMillan for faster replies and pics/videos

Man I had to take down my first power hammer off KZbin cause I had a offensive piece of cloth in the background or I’d share it with you The one in this video is only 30 pound ram where the big one is a 100 pounder Thank you for coming over and seeing my builds ,not a lot of people view there viewers if you get what I mean 👊

@@jamesball7322 youtube and their idiotic guidelines, can't do any video without offending some panzyass, keep flying that cloth proud brother. great thing about a pneumatic is you can make some pretty heavy hammers with very few moving parts, so long as the compressor can keep up. not a problem at all! i like to see other peoples builds!

Any way to get some plans on this hammer set up? This looks like a relatively easy build...Can’t afford one of those BIG BLUE MAX hammers!
@jamesball73225 жыл бұрын
I’ve made promises of plans in the past and it’s just my least favorite part is the jotting down of measurements I can go over it with a tape and explain in another video but as far as written plans go I wouldn’t want to fold on another promise I did all my cherry-picking from other vids and help from who’s now a good friend (Roger Smith)
@mikeleahey91905 жыл бұрын
James Ball understand that, I can somewhat get most of the general relationships of the various pieces by studying what I see, but not sure what the wheel is actually doing in this set up. motor size and ballpark ram size and weight. Any other direction from those that you learned from would be greatly appreciated.

Mike Leahey Well I’d love to help only I’d like to be a bit more effective through other means of communication,messenger for instance Look me up under James McMillan or even my email (jamesball1979@gmail.com)

Dude.. Nice! Love the sound too. Question about the bottom round piece, is it heat treated? I finally was able to go to the surplus metal yard and found so much nice steel. The only thing is I couldn't picture heat treating such big pieces.
@jamesball73225 жыл бұрын
No it’s just mild round stock ,I had planned on a bottom die

@jamesball73225 жыл бұрын
Congrue Woodworks I should post more about me forging blades huh ?....I wouldn’t use mild steel for a blade right 🤷🏻♂️ I find it odd you remind me of steel properties,I did originally have planned to add bottom plate that would accommodate switching of dies due to the result of deformation Thank you for check n it out ✌️

why is the ram not touching the anvil when idle?
@jamesball73225 жыл бұрын
Basically you have to have the hover space to allow for built up inertia and the thickness of the work piece Like proper form with baseball
@Milan222295 жыл бұрын
Does this mean your are slowing the ram down so that it is not hitting the anvil at full power when there is no soft workpice stopping it
