This is the problem with Advaitha Vedanta followers including Sri Adi Shankaracharya himself. If God is nothing but pure consciousness then why did Sri Adi Shankaracharya took pains in creating various peetha/mutts and where daily rituals/poojas to deities are conducted till now, and why did Sri Adi Shankaracharya install various yantras in these peethas/mutts? Why did he compose devotional hymns to various Gods and describe their characteristics similar to those present in the puranas like Lord Skanda being the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi, describing the characteristics of Lord Krishna and so on. As per the biography of Sri Adi Shankaracharya (authentic as per Sringeri Peetha), there are many miraculous incidents in the life of Sri Adi Shankaracharya, one example being, the showering of gold coins after completion of recitation of 'Kanakadhara Stotram' in praise of Goddess Maha Lakshmi and showing her presence to Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Is it not against the principle of Advaitha Vedanta which stress on the essence of 'Aham Bramasmi' and negates the separate super entity in a physical form then why this inconsistency in the teaching of Sri Adi Shankaracharya and his life experiences? These experiences in his life prove that yes there exists a supreme entity and has different physical forms and one cannot discard the manifestation of physical form after intense devotional prayers/meditation. Vedas or anything for that matter is interpreted differently by various scholars/saints including Sri Adi Shankaracharya, Sri Ramanujacharya, Sri Madhvacharya, Sri Dayananda Saraswati. If a text as corpus as the Vedas doesn't definitely say anything about creation/God or matters of meta physical nature, then there is no point in venerating such text. If the Vedas were of such low quality texts, then it would not have been revered by people from millennia including great scholars and saints. The Vedas are definitive texts which state on moral aspects and meta-physical aspects, as they are believed to be from the God. Puranas/Upanishads are written by men, so there could be chances of interpolation and incorrect sayings and so on.
