SLOAN!! Criminally underrated. Still going strong with all the original members...The Sorrows...Wow!! I discovered your channel recently and just wanted to compliment you on your exquisite taste! Anytime ANYONE wants to nerd out about Power Pop (meant in the best possible sense) , my ears perk up and my heart skips a beat! The jangly guitars and mellifluous melodies are golden honey to my ears. Shoes, Windbreakers, Big Star, Badfinger, Tommy Keene, the dBs, Dwight Twilley, Dangtrippers...up to more modern bands like Posies, Teenage Fanclub, Redd Kross, Gigalo Aunts, Myracle Brah, and countless others, far too many to mention. Thanks for the great videos and you always have me scribbling down the band's I missed or have heard of and didn't get around to discovering. Very Cool ! 😎

@@TheOmahaIntrovert I have two Sorrows reissues from Bomp! Records on CD and an old copy of their debut on vinyl. Will definitely seek out the new one. I luckily got to see Sloan twice here in Kansas City in the past several years. The "12" tour and the tour a few years ago in which they played "Navy Blues" in it's entirety. Both shows were at a club I loved called the Riot Room. It closed for good during Covid and then burned down shortly after. Saw many cool shows there. A personal moment of silence...sob! Seeing Sloan, Posies, Nada Surf, and Redd Kross in clubs in the past several years was so cool. Being that close to bands you have admired for years beats any arena experience (although I dig ALL live music experiences). Seeing Drive-By Truckers and the underrated Lydia Loveless tonight, in fact. Anyway, I will check out more of your videos, definitely. That you love The dBs is just awesome. "Repercussions" is a fantastic record. Thanks again for your videos. Your love of music is obvious and impressive. Take care...

I was at my local second hand records store yesterday, and I spotted a 2-disc CD set of the Soft Boys album, "Underwater Moonlight", for 3 British pounds. I remembered this from your videos. Now, I don't normally make blind buys but the low price, and your enthusiasm for this band and Robyn Hitchcock, made me decide to take a chance and get it. I hope that I will like it - channels like yours have introduced me to so much new music 😁

I was prepared to scold you for the lack of a more thorough nod to Redd Kross, glad to see you recognized this as well 😊 My bank account has taken a hit since I found you, you have helped rejuvenate my longtime love of power pop and I have placed several Discog orders recently (including The Shivvers and the second Borack book to accompany the first one I’ve had for years). So thank you for that! I swear, as soon as I think I'm satisfied with music purchases for a while, something else pops up and then more is added to this list! I can think of way worse hobbies, though! Yeah, I'm not sure why I neglected to mention Redd Kross earlier, but that has been remedied! I don't think I've ever mentioned the Producers, either. I have two of their albums that I probably haven't properly presented in a power pop video yet! You recommended some new ones to me that I'll have to check out. I don't have Splitsville or Cherry Twister on any format, but I remember hearing those albums close to the time they were first released and fell in love with them. So many great recommendations in this video. Thank you! The vinyl Nonsuch by XTC looks incredible. Beautiful packaging. The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkin Head is one of my favorites. Bram Tchaikovsky is a name I haven't heard for years. He was always on the periphery but for some reason, I never dove in. Thanks for the motivation. I think your initial impression of The Motors is pretty accurate. The song Airport is the highpoint. I finally know why The Beat from England is known as The English Beat. The Nerves off-shoot was The Beat. How did I not know that? The Who Sell Out reissue looks impressive. And love seeing the very non-power-pop Banana LP lurking in the background.

Not sure which LMNOP album its is on, but my fave song by them is "Please Beleive Me". Both of those Merrymakers are great. The Swedish Pop scene of the '90s was amazing. That Midnight Callers album is fantastic! One of my faves from 2020! LOVE Green, too. I always describe them as a garage band inspired by the Kinks and Prince (especially when Jeff hits those falsetto notes). There's a 3CD Bram Tchaikovsky set that features everything they released. Pet Rock is great - Sinceros' Don Snow joined Squeeze and Bobby Irwin joined Nick Lowe's band! Love Great Buildings! The Nerves - great stuff. The first EP and album from Peter Case's The Plimsouls are more Nerves-relaed classics! Great batch of music!

Hey there, Steve! Thanks for stopping by for this power pop installment. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the 'Love too Late' album from Sorrows in the future. Oh, I love 'Please Believe Me' from LMNOP as well! I like how you describe Green and the Kinks/Prince comparison! I need to track down that Bram Tchaikovsky 3-CD set. I've added it to my wishlist! Really appreciate your comment. You are so knowledgeable! Cheers!

Hi Hanna Lots of music you showed that I have never heard or seen around. Power Pop is a niche market in the UK and you really have to dig deep to find it, but if you do find it, its usually cheap. I have a good collection of 45's, mostly punk, new wave and power pop, many of those bands never made an LP. A record dealer friend of mine has just got 50,000 singles from Canada and I am going through them. Loads of good stuff and many are demo's. The Shivvers, I have a 45 called Teen Line ( i think), I am after that LP. There is also an Australian band called the Shivers (one V). They made an LP called Power Pop, its good. Red Kross a great band very underrated i think, Show World is my favourite. Another very entertaining and most importantly informative video. Gary

You're not alone Hannah. The boxset, and the 2lp mono, bring my total of The Who Sell Out to 5 copies. Unreleased tracks always hook me. Pete Townshend makes the best demos. I had brief conversation with Paul Collins when the Beat were setting up for a lunch time preview of their evening show at my college. What I remember is he had on a pair of shoes with the longest tips I'd ever seen. I immediately thought of the witches feet sticking out from under Dorothy's house in The Wizard of Oz. Have a great weekend Hannah✌☀️

I grew up here in 'Braskee but lived in PHX for a while, so Sun City Girls were a big deal for some people in the know. They moved to Seattle before I moved there though. Anyway, last time I was back a friend told me about their opening set for Red Kross. Redd Kross? where Sun City Girls played a cassette of their music while setting up the drums, guitars, and gamelan orchestra. Then when it was all set up, they immediately started breaking it down again and that was the set.

Hi Hanna 🙋♂️ - I thought The Sinceros would be a big hit with Take Me To Your Leader sounding just like The Cars. The Nerves are legends. Like The Sinceros , poor Paul Collins found himself on Columbia with The A&R guy who signed him having left the label by the time the record was released. Some guy with the last name Ellis - no , not me ! Nice XTC - not their greatest but time has been kind to it. A solid affair. Can't believe 77 beat 81 ! 👋

Hi George! I'm envious that you got to see Sloan. I've always wanted to see them! Maybe they will tour near her at some point in the future. I'll be going to my first live concert again in a few weeks and I'm excited! Steve Schnee is awesome! I do follow his channel! Cheers!

Hey John. In one of my other power pop videos I featured Richard Heyman. He's definitely a favorite of mine. Hope all is well! I appreciate the comment!

Ah, so much to sample. My notebook is full of recommendations. I'm sure I'll get to them after a few months. Pages of names and so thankful for the suggestions!
