One fun thing I realized is that if you leave the "gap" covers off you can attach the missile effects to give Mega Dragonzord some shoulder-mounted missiles.

One could argue that this Dragonzord being light on weight is probably for the best considering pretty much every single previous version made the combination with the Megazord waaaaay too top heavy to the point any of the high end versions had difficulty standing up. This is the first version that can stand up normally since probably the original toy.

One could argue that if they made the Megazord more premium and even heavier, then a reg premium weight Dragonzord is a non-issue in combined mode and it'd be even better.

@@devilbringer1102 Well SOC clearly fked up on the design of their Megazord joints and stability. Their other SOC products that combine were not so flimsy, like GaoGaiGar. So it's not the weight of the material that was the problem.

@@sigerlion8608 Here's the thing it was the diecast metal that screw the SoC zords as the whole thing was mostly diecast including in places it shouldn't be to the point it was too much for their combinations to properly handle it and it really grinds my gears how poorly they did it on all of them (except Titanicus but he's impossible to f*ck up) and more considering how like you mention Gaogaigar, the Voltrons and other SOC are able to hold together pretty well and be nice to handle

Gotta say, the lightness is nothing but a good thing. A lifetime of building model kits, playing with Transformers and Zords, has taught me that while die-cast feels wonderful it does nothing for the longevity or use of a figure. The only time it's ever meaningfully positive is when it's used as a full skeletal structure, or for extra strengthened joints. So light in the hand with solid joints is absolutely wonderful to me. I really see almost nothing but wins with this Dragonzord. It looks better than any previous incarnation, and in all the videos I've watched is shockingly robust with its connections and joints. With the notable exception of its mouth and Battle Mode face. That's just a universally flawed design. One that could've been solved by having the top of the jaw click into place, and just have a small lip to unlock it from its spot.

I like the lightness of it, but the plastic quality has its issues. Like some connector breakage. Especially the tail to the chest piece, it's too tight and if you're not careful it can easily lead to the connection breaking.

It should've always been called Mega Dragonzord as it combines with other zords. I call the headress mode Dragon Megazord.

Considering Hasbro was able to make Transformers VS. The Terminator an actual thing.. I'm pretty sure since Hasbro owns both Power Rangers and Transformers now... that seems very likely to happen.. who knows? Maybe it might be next year's crossover just like they did with Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, and all of that good stuff..

Honestly surprised it hasn't happened yet. Tons of ways they can go about it; either the TFs we know and love can take on the zords as alt modes, or the allspark/matrix grants the zords cybertronian sentience.

@@myriadmediamusings actually as confirmed in MMPR.. the Zords do have sentience to some extent such as how the Dragonzord is able to fight on its own accord without a pilot, same with the original T-Rex zord how even without the red ranger, he could still fight and come whenever needed.. so to some extent all of the original zords have sentience.. since Zordon in the series didn't confirm nor denied if the Zords had some type of autopilot otherwise..

I'm really hoping with the Astro Megazord they up the plastic quality... having said that I wonder if there was method in the lightness for the combined modes? If I were them and I took one look at the Legacy one, I'd think "Nope, no metal, lets make it as light as possible!"

Well if i must guess one reason is soo light is for the combination of both the megazord and dragozord too work properly without that thing self destructing itself because having metal at times can be a high disadvantage for some figures

Yeah, it turns out hasbro's rachets rely on a little plastic square with a point that catches the teeth to rachet. I can't be sure, but I suspect the square popped out of the Dragonzord's leg, because something similar happened to my Devestator's hip joint.

im gonna say thins i think not doing die cast for combiners is a good move. As you emntioned dragonsozes dia cast feet reall mess with the battle cloak mode and this happens all the time with combiners. If i were to design myown i think what id do is Diacast yellow and blue as their feet. Ratchets the knees in both. Put electronitns just in the dragon/tyrano chest. Or ideally just the dragon chest core and Ptera and keep the rest pretty light that way you can excecutre sounds with a small contained device and have max stability for all combinations

I'd say there's a balance...it needs to be solid and weighty so itll be sturdy but not so heavy that the features have issues.

Dragonzord/Caesar has always been tricky because of how you'd need to prioritise the stability. Dragon mode? Battle mode/Gohryujin? Combined mode/Zyutei Daizyujin? The premium ones featuring diecast have generally concentrated it in the feet, which makes the two combined modes tricky. ZAP going all plastic may feel less primo, but the stability makes it a lot more playable.

I had the misfortune of seeing a video of the Soul of Chogokin version of the Dragonzord, which seems to be the happy medium between the Legacy and ZAP versions, though probably pricier. I did like how the staff for the battlemode on that folded out of the chest though.

The Soul of Cogokin version seems to be anywhere between $200-400, so a fair bit pricier I'd imagine.

All the Soul of Chogokin versions also had some of the more obscure stuff built in, like (Zyu) Triceratops being able to "shoot" out its horns on the retractable chains from that handful of episodes. Would a reissue of them be possible anymore? I'm thinking Hasbro having the Power Rangers license now would be in regards for localised/western releases, but if it's in _overall_ regards then Bandai may not be able to put it out again.

This thing is awesome in every aspect but one. Once again, as with the past modern iterations of it, I come back to the Dragonzord's legs in Battle Mode formation. How is it that, across 30 years, multiple toy manufacturers, and countless evolutions in toy-making technology, the original '93 Deluxe is STILL the only one that got the Dragonzord's combined mode leg formation right?! Even the awesome Soul of Chogokin version got this wrong, and it's arguably the best one there is. DZ's feet/calves are supposed to be flush air tight up against the Tiger and 'Tops. They're supposed to be a perfect fit, like they belong there. In Battle Mode, this DZ's feet stick out waayyy too far and the legs look messy from every direction but straight forward. The only thing they have over those of the Legacy version is that, at least these lock into place. I'm not ungrateful, though. This thing is amazing in every other way, and the detailing is super sweet. I also love that he can finally hold the Power Staff with both hands. Excellent review as always, sir!
