I learned this from an A&P . The Cessna 182 flies the same IO470 engine at 10.5 gph. When we learn to fly in a high altitude airport like Denver, we lean on the ground till the engine starts to run rough then enriching the mixture slightly till it runs smooth again. That is essentially running 50° lean of peak. I ran my bonanza like that for years. My friend runs his baron that way at about 10-11 a side

Stay tuned for next week’s video. I think you will find it very interesting 😉

Another great video. Anytime you can request a WX reroute on the ground is much better for you the pilot and ATC. It’s frustrating for a controller to just get the words “RADAR Contact” out of their mouth and then the pilot asks for a reroute. As a side note, the RSW controller was insistent that you repeat the instruction to “follow” with the approach clearance because that basically takes he place of “maintain visual separation from” when used in conjunction with an approach clearance. Great job!

That Jag looks like it runs pretty nice. 👍😎 Great stuff, Kris. Being that I'm a certified cheapskate, if I were a pilot, I'd be obsessing over max speed verses min fuel burn. I always enjoy when you discuss it. I was watching your fuel burn when you took off, and compared it to cruise at altitude - about 20 gallons per hour less! Imagine running the engines full tilt all the time - they wouldn't last long, and you'd burn a swimming pool full of LL on each trip! Just random thoughts I have, lol. When you think about the time saved flying, 8 statute MPG is a huge bargain any way you slice it. Loved the wing-view of those clouds! That was great! 👍🍻

Nicely done Kris. Two questions, it seems that you run screens N up, even when you're headed S. Did I misread the screen or is there a reason you prefer N up? I am a track up guy. Not sure what you saw that may have been North up. As far as Foreflight, I use the performance plus. Not to avoid your answer but next week’s video will give you a great example of why I prefer it.

IFD question for you. What if you were asked to hold at that 15 NM East of PGD. How would you set that up?
@BaronPilot4 жыл бұрын
FMS page move the curser where you want it and press, enter or the knob and you will see hold at KPGD, the enter the information. I have a video showing that. Look under my Avidyne playlist.
@midlifeflyer4 жыл бұрын
@@BaronPilot Check back on what I was asking. Not "hold at PGD" but hold at that 15 NM point before PGD. If you are talking about the "Avidyne IFD Programing Unpublished Holds" video, no, it does not contain what I am looking for. Using that video as a guide and staying with your with your 329° inbound routing, the instruction I am looking for a demonstration of is "hold 15 miles southeast of LAL". IOW, the holding fix is not LAL, but a point 15 NM southeast of LAL.
@BaronPilot4 жыл бұрын
My bad. This becomes a two-step process. Step one is go to the waypoint tab and create a user waypoint. There you can choose a fix, a radio and a distance. So in your example you can create a waypoint 15 miles prior to LAL. After creating that waypoint and naming it then insert the way point into your flight plan and then create a hold as you normally would.
@midlifeflyer4 жыл бұрын
Baron Pilot thanks. That's what I thought. I figured if there was another way you would know it. I asked because I teach in multiple airplanes with multiple avionics. It's one of the very few things the GTN does easier than the IFD. I have a video demonstrating it in. GTN 650.
