This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound kzbin.infoUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.

The reason for the differences in grill marks and the browning of the pancakes is the heating elements. The Gotham one is direct heat while the Smokeless one is indirect heat meaning that it probably needs to be at a higher temp than the Gotham Steel grill. Maybe if the Smokeless Grill could get a higher temp then it could win against the Gotham in appearance of the food but as is it's just not as a appealing. That and on the Steaks (not your fault), the Gotham was a medium rare while the Smokeless Grill looked more medium to medium well and I assume it's due to the fact that you kept the steak on the Smokeless grill longer to get the outside seared properly but in doing so caused the inside to cook more.

also feel like the smokeless grill has a harder time keeping temp so that why they say too cook with the included lid and also prob will need time to heat up with the lid on to get the cook surface hot put your food on the surface and replace the top to get the temp back up and maintain it also with there being a fan inside it would constantly be trying too keep temps up think he could have tested this differently rather then using the same methods for both grills

Agree! And, keeping the lid on the power smokeless when making the steak made it “steam” more thank grill, and that cooked more the inside. Not enough heat with the chicken and the pancakes (aka no grill marks). To me, the PS simply does not have enough… “power”. That’s a deal breaker as far as I’m concerned…

@GrimmsDeath The PowerSmokelessGrill can get up to SMOKING HOT! I use mine for the past few years, no complaint, and the MID and LOW temp setting I hardly use, it might be perfect for keeping stuff warm, with the lid on. The secret is to keep the lid on for heating it up, it gets up to 450, nothing more needed for crispy trouts and everything else. And I use it mainly outdoors on the covered balcony, even in winter. Don't want to miss it anymore, especially the size is great! The guy might start reading the user manuals instead of ignoring them, not each appliance uses the same settings

On one of these for quite a few months now and it's complete and utter garbage the way the fan is located in the intake being on the other side causes have to meet to be on the grill to stay raw at while the other half cook stew a full well done also as for it being smokeless it's just a fan that exhaust down towards your countertop after repetitive use you will see the same stains that are in your oven Hood will be on your countertop it's garbage

From my observations The Gotham has a direct heating element hence better grill marks whilst the Power Smokeless Grill has a radiating heat which would take longer for the grill plate to heat up to the same temps .... Good review. I have both of these. Bought the smokles one first. Thought it had too many pieces, that made it a pain in the butt and it is quite a bit heavier. So I bought the Gotham grill second and it is just more simple, fewer prices, slightly smaller and lighter in weight and easier storage. I like the Gotham better. The smoke is not enough to bother me, I soaked the grill a little without submerging the electrical end of it and it cleaned up ok. I prefer the Gotham grill. Looking for some to take the smokeless grill off my hands.

The Gotham grill's heating element is closer to the griddle than the Power Smokeless. That's going to affect things like browning; you'll want to let it preheat longer because of that. The heating element being built into the grill grates also results in darker grill marks, for the same reason. I'd go with Power Smokeless, overall. BTW, you can probably "season" both grill grates in a manner similar to cast iron. With the Gotham, since it does have the built in heating element, you would do that by cooking fatty foods on it a few times and only cleaning it with water and a soap free scrub pad. (Use a cheap toothbrush to get into the crevices). With the Power Smokeless, you could probably follow normal cast iron seasoning procedures, maybe 25 degrees cooler in oven temp or so.

Nice review I own the power smokeless grill and have had no problems with it but what I've noticed in your video is that the Gotham heating element built into the grills surface giving you better grill Mark's but the trade off is that the heat destroys the nonstick surface making the clean up the absolute worst you can get the same grill Mark's an better clean up on the power smokeless grill if you just turn it on high an leave the food on a little longer so those are my thoughts also the power smokeless grill 2 puts out more wattage giving you better grill Mark's in less time hope my comment was helpful

I bought one of these a few weeks ago and it works great. As for the pancakes, you need to crank up the heat and using my heat gun, it takes somewhere around 8 minutes to get to 400 - 450 degrees. Steaks came out good. I even made a smash burger on it, the crust on the meat was perfect. I really didn't think I could make a smash burger on it but it worked. I really like the boneless chicken the way is comes out. So, so juicy and has pretty good grill marks. As for the smoke, none that I could see. For me, it's a great addition to my kitchen gadgets. I did watch this review before I bought it, so you kinda helped me make this purchase. Thanks.

I had a smokeless grill in the early 90s before I was given a George Forman Grill with removable plates as a present. Even though cookware may say non-stick, I still spray or use butter.

I know they are both called grills but the Power Smokeless Grill is closer to an oven than a grill. It uses indirect heat, a heavy glass lid, and even the fan adds a convection effect. Whereas the Gotham steel uses direct heat and no lid or fan. That is why you got faster browning and great sear marks. Thanks for the review.

Really, it's a bit of a weird hybrid of grill and oven. Yes, the heating element is farther away, but the food is still being cooked via direct contact to a heated grill surface. So - grill. But as said, the lid and fan give it some aspects of an enclosed oven. So - oven. Really interesting.
@judyfleming6269

the fan only sucks in smoke. It has no convection effect like an oven in which the fan blows the heat around in the oven so that all sides of a dish get heated equally at the same time.

Great review. I freaking love my Power Smokeless Grill. Can't recommend it enough. Yes, it really is smokeless, even in a small room, and the benefits and convenience of that feature alone is huge. There's a smoke alarm in close proximity to where mine's set up and the grill doesn't set it off, even when grilling 2 lbs of marinated tips. It's very well designed and built great, and easily breaks down for quick cleaning. It does a fantastic job of grilling and cooking. And I love the bright glowing blue temperature light and how it functions. I know it's a small thing, but it's just so cool when you see it for yourself. It sucks when you have high hopes for a product that ends up being a piece of crap waste of money. But trust me, the Power Smokeless Grill is not one of those products. It exceeded all expectations. I have the Power Smokeless Grill and I love it. Yes, being smokeless is imperative with my cockamamie smoke detecters being too sensitive. I also agree the non-stick surfaces are better, not to mention everything can go into the dishwasher. Yes, I believe higher temperatures are necessary to get browning and so forth. I pretty much stick with the griddle because it will not drip and is forgiving for soft foods to cook. Typically, unless something dramatic occurs, I just need to wipe off the griddle with a paper towel and I am ready to go again.

The one gripe i have about "non-stick" and "grill" is that the way you get good searing (grill marks) is to have the food in full contact with the cooking surface. When it gets "stuck", that's the food getting "stuck" to that surface, meaning it's getting as much contact as possible, whereas of it comes off easily, that means that it's not going to sear as well.

Thank you for the video review this was great, very thorough and enough information for me to make my purchasing decision. After watching I would say the power grill is better in all categories and I will definitely be buying the power now. The reason why is you can jut leave the lid off to get the grill marks and those pancakes were perfect. I don't like a hard brown surface on my pancakes I definitely prefer light and fluffy cause they absorb syrup better. Also on a final note I think they suggested using the lid just to simply make it 100% smokeless and not meant as a cooking suggestion.

The problem your facing with non-stick items is that you need to clean your grill first then season them with cooking oil tell its burned onto the surfaces and you will find that your problems with sticking will be next to none but it will look ugly but will taste amazing.
@killtyrant
@killtyrant 4 жыл бұрын
Because the heating element is built right into the other grill, the non-stick surface gets eroded easier. At least from what I've seen across the board with any grill that's set up like that (george foreman grill, pancake/waffle maker's, etc). The quick fix is pretty much what you commented but that's just a solution to the poor design

I bought the Gotham per your review, have used it many times for gatherings in my apartment. I don’t seem to have the same issue with cleaning as the one you have. My nonstick surface is still as good as day 1 and just wipes away easily. So maybe I got lucky or yours unlucky. Either way, excellent review the power grill definitely is better with the “smoke-less”

They make two different wattages. The normal one you buy at the local Walmart or other retailers are only 1200 watts. I ordered one directly from Power Smokeless Grill, cause I wanted a bigger grilling size. The normal grilling size like the one in this video is 13.5. They are at the local retailers. The bigger grilling size you can only get through the company itself, and it has a grilling size of 15.5. As far as power goes, you can get the 1200 watt (Normal) or get the 1500 watt. I believe with the 1500 watt you see faster temperature changes, and it may put out more power for other features. The 1500 watt you can only get it through ordering from Power Smokeless Grill directly.

Wouldn't the fan just send the 'smoke' out some other part of the grill instead? Also wouldn't the increased airflow, draw heat away from the grill, therefore reducing the heating capacity?

@@naddakeeps9964 Yeah. The heating element is actually fused to the underside of the grill. That's why it gets hotter. That's why the non-stick gets over heated and becomes "stick". Non stick skillets don't do well to brown meat. They work....a few times. Then the non-stick surface turns color and eventually goes away.

They make those elements/grills detachable so you can clean them without the controls/plug in getting wet. So saying you can't wash the non-stick of the Gotham Steel is incorrect. Just make sure its completely dry before using it after washing.

Try covering the grill with a very wet paper towel (over cooled grill) for a few minutes to soften the grease spots then wipe clean under running water. My Gotham Steel instruction booklet says you can also put the grill (without the electric plug insert)in the dishwasher, but that might only be for my model of their grill.

Thanks for the review of the Gotham Steel Smokeless Grill and The Power Grill. I am not surprised that you too found that the Gotham Steel grill's "non-stick surface" that the info-mercials tout on their products degrades after no more than two uses. I have both. I also live in hotels 11 months out of the year for work. The grill/griddle (A) gets hotter because of the direct contact. The power grill/ griddle (B) has great smoke control and keeps the fire alarm quiet. Cleaning (A) is easier when it has completely cooled. Meats do tend to stick after several uses. Still cleans easily. (B) takes too long to heat and cook food. Makes you late for the crew van in the am. Gotham also advertises (A) as a Smoke Less grill now. It’s true cause grease falls from hot grill onto a cool drip pan. Griddle not so but still not much smoke unless you burn something. For speed, ease and convenience, I prefer (A). Just disconnect the fire alarm or cook in the bathroom

The metal mass and material make a huge difference too. Comparing the thin metal on the smokeless to big honking steel grates isn't apples to apples. Thermal mass on thin metal doesn't hold up and won't up quite as good at "grill marks"....but it's benefits of the smokeless outweigh the steel. For indoors smokeless is definitely more important.

The smokeless grill still has a great nonstick surface even after cooking steaks every weekend for at least 4 months. The grill marks are more pronounced if you leave the lid off and use higher heat also I have found it does better if you let it preheat a lil longer to get the grill tray hotter. If you're like me and live in an apartment or condo where you can't have an outdoor grill then the power smokeless grill is the best alternative to an actual grill. Great review though thx

The power smokeless is a scam of a product for people that don't know how cooking works, it's truly smokeless because it doesn't create any smoke. It create steam because it barely reaches 320f (where caramelization occurs) which is probably sucked by the fan, cooled and then blown out at a slightly cooler temperature and voilà! Smokeless steamer! I think it's a fail on the grilling aspect. If you truly want a smokeless steak do it sous-vide .

I don't know if you do it, however on your washing segments, I always see no soap. Running water and a sponge don't clean well. I use a good soapy cloth (microfiber usually) and keep the water off. The soap helps break down the grease and fats. It doesn't mean cleaning is any more enjoyable however from what it looks like, with simply running water you might be on it a while longer.

Yes I did notice that. Difference is that this is a video with a premise about indoor foodmaking and not outdoor grilling or BBQ'ing. There is a reason why you have things like grill pans - as the caramelisation and charring of the meats surface is difference from a grill pan vs. a regular pan (indoors). It gives a diffrent flavore profile to meat, vegtables and other things. So Grill marks do matter.
