Keep in mind that the Foreman was initial created for "healthier" eating, so it's designed to get the grease away from your food. Unfortunately, part of the same process to remove grease also removes the other juices, which is the press. That's why it isn't as juicy and fills up the drip tray a lot more. I have one of the higher end Foreman grills with swappable plates and I love it. But I also have a real grill now for when I prioritize flavor.

I have a question regarding the grease collection on the Shaq grill. You showed there was minimal grease, but failed to show where the balance of the grease was. The collection ring inside must have been holding it. Is that collection ring removable for cleaning purposes? Otherwise, it looks like a chore to get down inside to clean it.
@Amarianee3 жыл бұрын
I was wondering this too. The minute he showed that canal thing I was like, "oohhh....no no no, that's gonna be a pain to clean later." With there being such little grease in the tray, it either doesn't make enough contact to eliminate the grease, or it's all collecting inside. Either way, it defeats the purpose for me. I worked in restaurants for years. If we wanted fast, we used weights on the meat but it always comes out drier. The reason why the George may have been lighter color on bottom is if the chicken got pressed down into the grates, so the juices didn't drain as well. So then it would steam more on the bottom than grill. YMMV

The George Foreman grills have always used a floating hinge for the top cover. The weight of the top smushes the food, which I never liked. Thats why the burgers are sandwiches are flatter. It also presses out all the liquids, fat or not. This causes the natural juices in the meat to be squeezed out and is why they are so dry. I had a George Foreman Grill from around 2000. The small one with the bun warmer. I used it for a while, but the novelty wore off. I actually just recently decided to get rid of it. It was mostly unused in the last 20 years and just taking up space.

I've owned two George Foreman's grills. The first was one of the originals and cleaning that was a nightmare. The teflon eventually wore off. The second one I have currently. We use it from time to time but we got a charcoal grill and use that currently since it's summer. We'll probably go back to the Foreman for winter cooking. The plates at the 30-ish dollar version come and clean up nice. There is a patina that cannot be scrubbed from under the plates--a bit rust/black color like my cookie sheets can get but not scrub off like the cookie sheets; it's on there permanently. I do not like the light system. It's supposed to go Green when it's ready, but it doesn't. It's got yellow and red so you start red when you preheat, change to yellow and then are supposed to go green. I waited half an hour. No green. Haven't seen green more than 5 seconds once then it dropped back to yellow in the middle of cooking. It cooks well. Grilled cheese never worked on either Foreman but pannis DO work. We used to make them a lot on the old one. I am particularly fond of roast beef and swiss on rye or a more traditional ham and multiple versions of cheese sandwich on any bread. I'm glad that I replaced the defunct older one but wonder often if I should have gotten a bit better one at the higher price point. Still not sure on that. REMOVABLE PLATES ARE A MUST though. Trust me. Lifesaver.

I used the George Forman grill years ago, the one thing I didn't like, when cooking a steak as an example the top doesn't sit flat, it was always at an angle. I didn't care for that. Now watching the comparison of the two, while the Shaq improves with the floating bottom it seems like there are still issues, and maybe you could expand on this, it appears the lower section doesn't have every strong springs so the heavier the meat product the more it would drop, which would explain why the bottom cooked darker than the top. Interesting that the Shaq grill is mentioned as a panini grill, I prefer a panini grill, mostly due to the hinge on most are floating hinges, (at least the ones I've owned had floating hinges). The floating hinges the Panini makers have provide a better and more consistent pressure and better cooking, My opinion. The only issue I've ever had with a Panini maker is clean-up which I solved by lining the top and bottom with foil prior to cooking anything and cleanup is a breeze.

I own a Foreman Evolve grill and I love it. It has removable ceramic grill plates that are insanely easy to clean. You can also pick up a good variety of replacement plates to do anything from bacon and eggs to pan pizza. The only problem with Foreman grills I've noticed is that the lids are quite heavy, which compresses things like grilled cheese sandwiches. Older Foreman grills had a way to hold the lid about an inch or inch and a half above the bottom plate, which minimized that crush effect. And a hint when cooking chicken on a grill: you should always use something to flatten out the boneless breast to a more even thickness so that it cooks more evenly. A kitchen mallet or even a small cast iron frying pan will do a great job of that. Makes a huge difference when cooking that cut of meat. I also recommend brining a boneless breast to keep it from drying out during cooking. Finally, even though these grills cook from both the top and bottom, I find you will get better results by flipping and turning them halfway through the cooking time. You can also get a nice cross-hatch grill mark by doing that. 👍

That George VS Moore fight was Great. You can tell the slow hard shots George was landing were slowly adding up. Until one too many landed and the steady concussive battering shut down Moore's brain. If anyone didn't see it coming, they weren't paying attention.

I bought the Shaq 6 months ago because, at the time, it was the only one where the grates could be taken out and washed. That has always been my beef 🥴 against the Foreman grills. I LOVE our Shaq grill. It keeps the meats juicy and tender. Very versatile. Try making Quesadillas! FANTASTICO! I also really like the “floating” grill concept so food doesn’t get smooshed and lid closes solidly. Very easy to clean. I often skip the pre-warm phase and just start cooking as soon as I turn it on. I’ve not noticed any problem doing that and I get my food faster.

I bought a George Foreman Lean Mean (knock out the fat) Grilling Machine back in 2001. Twenty years later it's still going strong. The Shaq may be good but my Forman is a tank! I will keep making my grease free grilled cheese sandwiches with George. In a review of this type of machine, I would have liked to see a comparison of how easy or difficult they were to clean. With drip trays underneath, I would have to believe they need to be disassembled to get the grease out from inside.

I have a George Foreman grill (my 3rd in my adult life). This grill is smaller, doesn't allow you to remove the grills for the dishwasher, and no longer includes the plastic spatula that earlier models provided with the drip tray. After watching this video, I think my next grill (the griddles do wear out after 3-4 years or so, as the Teflon coating starts to flake off, making the griddles hazardous) WILL DEFINITELY be the Shaq grill. I love the auto shut-off feature, as well as the fan to absorb the smoke. When I cook burgers or salmon, the house stinks of cooking smells for a few hours.
@Steve_in_NJ3 жыл бұрын
The shut off feature is a big seller for me. With my Foreman grill, I just ask Alexa to start a timer for X:XX minutes...

That's because it's ran at 3am on local stations to fill time, and I have no doubt at least 10 -15 of the 30+ shopping, or infomercial channels DirecTV has running 24/7.

I didn’t know about the Shaq grill, but I just bought that exact style of Foreman grill earlier this week. I’ve used it twice so far, and it’s definitely better than any of the classic Foreman grills I’ve used before. I’m happy with it, but I’ll have to keep the Shaq one in mind next time I’m on the market for one.

if you use it often, youll be in the market in a few months. I have that exact george forman and it lasted about 5 months of every other day use before the coating was gone and i couldnt buy replacement plates

Was there any difference when cleaning them in the dishwasher? I purchased an inexpensive electric griddle that claims to be dishwasher safe but it does not even fit into my dishwasher. Love the channel, keep the reviews coming.

Since he skimmed by it I will point out that contrary to how it looked at 4:21 the Shaq grill does, in fact, touch whatever is put in with both grill plates which you can see most clearly at 6:19 as there's burger juice sizzling on the top grill. Of course you can also see this with all the other tests as everything else has grill lines both top and bottom. Just figured it'd be worth noting here as I know it's easy to get caught up in the flow of the video and not realize the first impressions were thankfully not accurate. I will also point out that both grills contour to the shape of the meat when one side is thicker than the other, contrary to how it looks from the outside at 11:42. This is due to what he mentioned near the beginning at around 3:50, the fact that the Shaq grill's top may not shift but the bottom grill on the inside is spring loaded, allowing it to shift instead and conform to whatever's inside, meaning that no matter which grill is chosen the user is going to get even grill lines across the entire thing and not have to worry about the grill not touching any part of the top or bottom of what's being cooked. These things were clearly silently taken into account, but I felt they were also worth mentioning just in case someone watching remembered the comments about the Shaq grill not touching with both plates and how the Shaq grill only visibly conformed a little but also didn't notice that it had grill lines on both the top and bottom as well as across an entire uneven piece of meat.

Great reviews! I just wonder which one has the easier clean up?
@piglet4923 жыл бұрын
The reason Shaq's is more juicy is the floating bottom of the grill. It doesn't press on the food as much as George's. This is why the burger off of George's was dryer. Not only did you have the fat but there was the good juices pressed out of the meat as well.

I'm not complaining, just figured I'd give you a general cooking tip... If you pound the chicken breasts' thicker end with a meat hammer you can make it cook more evenly which results in less overdone/underdone areas of the meat.

Try a Cuisinart Griddler, it costs more than either of these BUT for the features and the final result, I’ll stay with my Cuisinart Griddler Elite indoor electric smokeless grill and griddle. For an outdoor grill flavor, add a few drops of liquid smoke sold with the sauces in your supermarket.

The Shaq Grill has Two Drip Trays. The first one is directly under the bottom grill plate which has a small overflow hole that will drip into the bottom drip tray underneath if necessary

As someone who now has an electric grill that they keep trying to pawn off to people: get a grill plate or griddle for your stove if you want the pressing just buy a $10 burger press they’ll take up so much less space. Cast iron pan also gives a similar effect and is endlessly useful.

We have had one of the Shaq grills for several months. It's fantastic for making grilled cheeses and patty melts, as well as steaks, chicken breasts, and other such. We also have a very old Foreman grill that's still kicking after 10+ years - it's very basic, not nearly as fancy as the one you showed here, but it's a trooper and I like how it does burgers better than how the Shaq does them.

I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon. Sue me. And since I don't have a butler, I have to do it myself. So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious. It's good for me. It's a perfect way to start the day.

As Foreman advertises, 'Get healthier meals in minutes'. It's meant to press the oil/fat out of the meat for reduced calories. It did what it claimed. Also, cleaning the fat out is *much easier* on the Foreman b/c the Shaq grill gets fat in that drip channel underneath the burner (aka massive headache).
@jpears11003 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember when the George Foreman grill originally came out all those years ago, that was their big angle... that it made steaks, burgers, etc. healthier because it helped drain out the fat. Over the years, the grill has become so ubiquitous in the market that I think a lot of people just buy it because of its brand name recognition and have forgotten or don't realize that it has this "feature" that they may not really like all that much.
