We put the DeWalt DCF921 ATOMIC Impact Wrench to the test. Not only do we push it to the limit with the 5Ah battery, but we break out the brand new PowerStack battery to see how it compares. The DCF921 claims to have 450 ft-lbs of breakaway torque. You can get this DeWalt ATOMIC DCF921 impact wrench for $199 for the bare tool, and you can also get it bundled with a 5Ah battery for $199 (the same price).

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. kzbin.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

I just purchased this impact.What a fantastic tool,it has way more power than the milwaukee stubby thats the same size.Easily the most powerful impact in the compact form factor.If you're thinking about it...do it,its top of the line....period. And yes it will whip off them lug nutz like nothing.The compact size is the most important thing because it will fit into tight spaces,almost as well as a ratchet.

@@andrewk8636 actually didn't. Both the M18 and M12 stubby did not beat the Dewalt I suggest rewatching the video. The DCF921 is miles ahead of the compact m18 and stubby m12 1/2"

I have both, this DCF921 & the M12 3/8" Stubby & while TTC shows the DCF921 being more powerful on their dyno, I've seen (on THIS VERY CHANNEL - ShopToolReviews) the 3/8" M12 Stubby consistently break free the same 450 ft lbs as the DCF921 (& on Part 2 vs the Snap-On, the M12 actually broke free 500 ft lbs). That said, both are GREAT choices & I LOVE both, so IMHO, you can't go wrong with either/or.

I bought this to work in a shop, mainly for a light weight lug nut puller. Works good for lugnuts. I've used on other parts of the car, I'm not convinced it puts out 450. Still happy with my purchase. $290 got me that impact, battery, charger and a 3/8 DeWalt atomic ratchet too. Very good deal, even if it doesn't hit max claimed 450.

Sorry, I thought I'd seen this video and had left comment previously, but I must've missed this one. Great video. I'm 98% sure I'll be moving up to the DeWalt camp soon, due primarily to the evolution in battery tech. Even if it was 'repackaging' tech not currently used by anyone else in the industry. I know DeWalt says it's 'new', but what I'm primarily concerned with is it's minimal size of massive power output. Put that along with the diminutive size of the new atomic line which rivals the compact line and Bam!!! Decision made.

Very nc test I already have the dcf 850 well its completely different tool for what it does compared to impact wrench that's why I want also a wrench and I start to watch videos well this one suits me better for my job I dont change tires I am hvac and rarely I come up aginst big bolts for heavy compresers that need to be opened and this is where 200 nm of torque fail for my tiny beast dcf 850. As for the batteries I have plenty classic 5ah and I got dcf 850 with case and 2 5ah batteries but it was too heavy for me so I decide to check the new power stack I got a 2ah battery to lose some weight which I did in order to lose the weight dewalt I guess remove some plastic from the case as a result the tool if u leave it on the floor fast it don't have good balance it might fell on its own I notice this also in your video it's a small drawback.The huge problem I saw in these batteries I font know about 5 ah but in my 2 ah battery the plastic from the case seems low quality compared to the old ones . I keep my impact driver always in my toolbag one day I saw the front bottom of the battery where you have the switch to remove the battery broken . Dewalt use low quality plastic and too short screws I opened the battery and replaced the old screws with new bigger ones since then all fine but ... I get the old 5 ah battery around 60 plus euros and I got the power stack 80 plus euros compared to the price and mostly speaking about dewalt I didn't expect this kind of cheap and low quality things I mean the hole screwdriver fell from the first floor and it didn't have a scratch but the battery fail in a week and when I opened the battery I notice the the switch has a spring and put pressures to the hole front of the case and with so short screws if you hit it somewhere it not difficult to Crack. Otherwise from power the moment I change to power stack the impact driver became more nervous more power

I’m torn between this impact wrench and the next generation kobalt 24 mid torque. It’s rated higher than the Dewalt but it’s also bigger. I do like the compact size for working on my car. They are both on sale right now. Currently, the kobalt is at 1:49 with the battery and charger. The Dewalt is currently free if you buy a two battery and charger kit for 199.

Just picked up one of these (bare tool) to use with my existing 4.0Ah battery. In all your tests you seem to use 5.0Ah batteries. Tested it out taking off wheel lugs tightened to 150lb/ft and they came off, but much longer before they spun than I expected. Should there be a big power difference with the 4.0?
@andrewk8636

Tightened to 150ft lbs doesn't mean removal is at that. Lug nuts can gall on to the wheel and it takes a good amount more to remove than to install them

The tool has 450 breakaway torque, which means the instant you hit the trigger that instant torque is 450 once you hold the trigger and continue hammering its no longer 450 ft lb you need to bumb the trigger a few times to get the full range of torque it has I personally think it would have removed the 500 ft lb nut.. but I could ve wrong.
