With hurricane season coming, this made me recall how hot the extension cord I used to connect my refrigerator to my gas powered generator. I am going to get one of their generator grade extension cords for that and label it “refrigerator”.

Yes! Great idea. When I lived in Louisiana I had bought a short 12 gauge extension cord, but the 10 gauge cords they have are better (can handle more amps).

@@Bruce-Weinberg I keep the generator as far from the house as weather will allow due to carbon monoxide and noise. Looking at 25 foot one. $70. Might check prices.

@@MyweathernetreportsBlogspot Yeah, the one I purchased was around $100 and it was pretty short as well. I think the heavy gauge wire and what is required to deliver the correct amperage likely necessitates a shorter cord or maybe it’s that the cost would be so high no one would buy a longer cord. I’m not sure - I’m far from an electrical engineer. But definitely want to be safe with generator placement and ensuring the appropriate cord. Good luck with your search!
