Thanks for the review! It looks like a great power bank for people going to very cold places. The NB, the Carbo, and the NPB chargers are supposedly able to operate in up to -10° Celsius. Unless you plan being out regularly at -20 or colder, it may not be worth spending that much on a power bank. Any plans to review the Carbo 10000 or the PNB1 or 2 (IPX7)?

Regards batteries in sub-zero temps, in my experience they do stop working when they get too cold but they don't necessarily lose charge so much as refuse to release it. My anecdotal evidence is paragliding at 3,500m in the Alps in Winter when my head-cam stopped recording shortly after take-off, refused to switch back on, but started working again once I descended to about around 2,000m where the air temp had gone up about 10deg. Caveats: It was an old-school camera, pre GoPro, with an external battery which I stuck in the side-pocket of my harness so it was prone to wind-chill on top of the -15deg air temp. Also I don't know what battery tech it was using, given the age probably NiCad or NiMH, I'm not sure if that makes a big difference for low temps when comparing to Li-ion but worth mentioning

Thanks for the heads up Sandy. Paragliding sounds epic. That's some serious Altitude. I'm guessing you really had to wrap up warm for that. I've camped in the past and found lithium ion batteries can loose their capacity. Battery technology really does need to catch up with the times 🤙

I think bacckpacking light actually did a test of this and found that it's not that the battery is exposed to the cold but it when you are going to use it. Say to charge your phone then the battery capacity is not as good as it's supposed to be then operating in optimal temperatures. So before using it it's best to warm up before plugging it in. Put it in your sleeping bag say 1 hour before using it. That should do it.

Ahhhhh a real and normal and interesting video/review and not the tûûûûttt of shorts ! :p I have the 10000 and the 20000 not Summit version and I am happy with them What I would like to have it is a very small form factor EDC battery for a little EDC pouch => something like a credit card for general dimensions (specially thickness) and something between 2500 - 5000 mah No necessity to fully charge a smartphone but just to have the power to make the minimum when needed and not bulky, there are some on (by example) Amazon but there are unknown chinese stuff so I am not super confidentant about the quality :/

Does it get warm enough to warm up your phone too? If the Summit 10000 is warming itself but the phone is freezing you will do severe damage to your phone battery.

No, I'm afraid not my friend. The warming is super subtle and enough to keep it from the low temperatures. I think if they went warmer they'd eat into the battery capacity

Does anyone know whether this would effectively charge using a small solar panel (Anker 21w) in very cold temperatures (-30c). My understanding is the internal heater would turn on, so the gain you get from solar is the net of the heating element use. Is that correct? Presumably on a clear sunny day you'd be ok?

What would be the best and safest wall charger for that ? I have 30 watts and find it slow.

That's a cracking question. I have a 45w that I use on my desk, and that's fine. I'd probably double check with Nitecore on Instagram or Facebook just in case

seems it only does 18w max charging, so make sure your charger does 9v 2A

Nice item, but I couldnt justify spending over £120 on a power bank. Bought a couple of Lidls 10K power banks last year for under a tenner each to leave in work bag and the car and theyre great. Still 100% charged after 4 months.
