I just got the game a few days ago. I watched your tutorial series up to the previous episode which greatly helped. After just practicing getting colonies off the ground, hitting an obstacle, restarting and avoiding the obstacles the next time... I've gotten a colony up to cycle 200 now, have a SPOM built, power stabilized and about 80% of the map dug out. Thanks for all this great info!

had this game in my library for like 2 or 3 years now, it was even installed on my PC yet never bothered to open it even once because of its cartooney style... was bored one evening and played it. it blew my mind right away. can't get enough of it now. i had a blast learning the starting paces by myself but it's very hard to master, especially in the later stages. there are a lot of mechanics that are poorly explained in the wiki or on reddit, they lack detailed pics or videos alongside the walls of text, so i was very fortunate to find your nub guides. watched all the episodes so far and i found out i was making lots of beginner mistakes or there were things that slipped past me that eventually condemned my dupes and colonies. your vids definitely improved my gameplay and my experience with this brilliant game. you make an excellent teacher, you have a soothing voice and it's a charm to follow you and learn from you. thanks mate!

Thank you A LOT Echo for this ✨️wonderful✨️ series ! I've hovered around ONI for years now, playing it a little, accidentally cooking my Dupes with battery heat, getting frustrated scrambling for information in outdated Steam Community guides, not playing anymore until the next update hypes me up, and so on. This "University Course" tutorial is just what I needed : even though it starts with the most basic of fundamentals such as "click here to dig" - and that may sound boring or not needed for people that know videogames and have already tried ONI before - it is actually very necessary to go over these apparently mundane things and learn from the beginning. Now, I can start a new colony without being stuck between my frustration and my gamer ego 😅 The pace of these videos, although slow at first, is ideal I think, one can see that you know where you are going, guiding the viewer step by step and being informative and entertaining. Please continue this series as long and as in depth as possible, and I'm sure the community will be very thankful and supportive in return. Cheers !

This game is something a "just retired" engineer could enjoy... if their last videogame the play was not the original Pong. It is a big difference for them to have a "How To" guide that included the Super Basic Things like using letters of the keyboard for quick access of the order commands instead of searching the entire screen for the right icon to click ( because their memory & eyesight it may not the best... precisely the reason they are not working anymore).

This is a great series, just played my first game today and i never knew it was this expansive. Had to stop here on the coal generator to start 2nd game, ill be back to finish the series, but i need to play it out a bit before going in deeper. Yes I’m a lover of these games, factorio, satisfactory etc, like i know it’s different but its deep enough to be in that level. Great work. Recommendable 🚀Amazing how you guide the newest members of ONI Gamer community through the difficulties of their first steps. I´ve learned a thing or two from you (even after 800h of gameplay) which i did differently before. BUT it is also a huge spoiler in my opinion because as i remember my first maps (which were all damned while i was figuring out what´s what in my first 100h) the joy was to explore the game and how i can win without cheating. Still, it´s a content worth watching for everyone who enjoys just watching someone playing ONI who is passionate about it. Can´t wait to see when you break surface 👍

Your method of explaining things is absolutely amazing. Not only that but your voice is extremely soothing and I love listening to you. Thank you very much for your hard work making these tutorials. I don´t know if you´d ever consider playing a different space game than this, but for example Stationeers is an amazing game but due to lack of tutorials, the game is extremely hard to master. I think that if you ever had time to check that game out and make tutorials on that game I´d watch all of them and I´d probably learn a lot because your tutorials on ONI are extremely helpful. Thanks again for everything. :)

I first played ONI back in the early access period. That was really enjoyable and the learning curve on systems worked really well for me. I think my fondest memory was using one of my dead dupes to produce oxygen :D Then, following my great computer crash of 2019, I didn't play, even missed the official launch. Last year, I decided to give it another go and got a little stuck. Your tutorial is great. There were no automated systems or smart batteries back when I played and I now know how to use them. Thank you. Things do seem a little easier though, I remember always building a step tile out of my rooms so that should the dupes have accidents then polluted water would be contained within the room and not accidentally flow down and contaminate any fresh water. I tiled rooms and cleared stuff from the floor otherwise they became unhappy, your little guys don't seem to care at all about the mess or at least not enough to stress them out into acting up. Sorry am rambling but then I have no one else to ramble ONI to. Will stop now. Just wanted to say, thanks. Enjoying watching this and feel inspired to give things another go and may even treat myself to Spaced Out at some stage.
@boxoffrogs971211 ай бұрын
Oh - just to say the phrase 'rambling ONI to' was accidental. I obviously mean 'on to' but kinda like the odd pun so haven't bothered to edit to correct :D

Allright, so, I have already poured >700 hours in the game, but always got unstable midgame and never got the spacefaring down. This guide is really helpful, and I hope you will take me by the hand right into space. The one thing that really could improve my game is probably doing the math, thats the most valuable lesson I think. I was just winging everything. Gonna be crunching some numbers, in my newest colony. thanx, bye

Great episode. I usually don't let my dupes eat any raw meal lice. I sprint to the Grill for pickles as soon as possible and forbid them from eating raw meal lice. Forces them to eat muck root but that's ok because then it's not taking up storage space. I also work on ranching early to provide a bit of variety with eggs and meat. The other big thing I do is NOT print a ton of duplicants early. Really enjoying this series.

Omg I’m such a goober. I didn’t realize the rock crusher making copper ore into “copper” was refined metal and thought I needed a smelter. On my quest to research and build one I ended up too quickly making an electrolyzer with no clue how to handle the hydrogen and just drilled to the heavens to vent the evil pink mist. I knew I must have misunderstood something and early tier stuff couldn’t possibly require a smelter. Poor dupes and their irritated eyes

Echo : … plan where you gonna place the jumbo battery cause it will generate a lot of heat… Also Echo : *place it next to the crop straight away* Me : Well done Echo, I love your tutorial, just like tomorrow Echo did 😂
@adolfodef Жыл бұрын
In his defense: The ideal place to put the batteries (on the "thermal frontier" between temperare & hot) was NOT excavated back then because it could NOT be excavated by any duplicant (lack of digging skill). . Since the "starter" battery would had to be deconstructed anyways (same thing with the temporary bigger version) as they would be eventually be replaced by the superior "smart" one, it did not mattered that those initial were placed in a thermally sensitive place. -> The real mistake is to wait too much time without deconstructing obsolete/redundant machinery; or without disabling them (the "scizors" order can disconect them instantly without any deconstruction duplicant time resource).

I literally saw every of your videos exept stream vods, and i find them amazing, Echo. Keep it up please =) It may be somewhat confusing thing, but jumbo battery leaks more then normal ones. It leaks more, and your power system will lose more power dye to that leak if you replace common battery with jumbo battery. It is efficient in terms of power storage, but its not in terms of power itself. So do it only if you need to extend your power storage capacity. Personally i build 1-2 common battery at day 2 and then run into smart battery setup ASAP coz it solve almost any power problem from early to high end game, and it almost no worth about even build jumbo battery to deconstruct it couple of cicles after.
@ThatOneGuy15270 Жыл бұрын
Overall, while yes, the Large Battery does leak 2kj of power compared to the Small battery's 1kj, its the percentage of the battery per cycle that counts. With the small battery it only holds 10Kj but loses 1Kj per cycle (a 10% loss per cycle).. Where the Large Battery holds 40kj and loses 2 Kj per cycle (Which is only 5% loss per cycle). If you are building 2 batteries that means you have upto 20Kj of power but you are losing 2kj of power in leakage per cycle (Still 10%) it would be worth more to have 1 Large battery for the 40kj rather than 2 batteries for 20kj
@sinner5452 Жыл бұрын
@@ThatOneGuy15270 i dont get how only percentage counts. Applying 1kj leak per cycle means that your dupes must spend extra 2.5 seconds on a humsterweel per cycle period. When you planning huge solar station you absolutely must think about leak/capacity ratio, there is where really only percentage counts, but at first 10 cycles of the game that just irrrlevant and confusing imo.

Something useful i learned is that the more your dupes do something, the better they are at, so when i see an anemic dupe, i don't worry, i put him like a hamster to run for energy until i not only nulled the -5 but also got some extra, that's why i use at least 5 manual generators, so the more dupes that do that, are also faster eventually, it's a investment of dupe labor i personally believe psdt: man, i gotta admit that i had top much anxiety seeing all that coal wasted, i would have used red emergency plus yellow just to disable the buildings💀💀💀
