Thumbs up for the SmallRig NP-F battery charging plate. I use that as well. It's so much more compact than using a V-Mount battery, but both options are viable for however a filmer likes the camera to feel in the hands.

Use the USB C in in the camera for Power delivery, with a normal battery inside, so if it fails your recording wont stop

I have an S5iix on order and I got the smalllrig npf monster off ebay. It's great. I only got one because I wanted to test it out but it looks super-good. I also have the dummmy battery for the S5ii with the ISB-C connector. I thought the NPF mount from smallrig was expensive, but now that I think about it, it's still worth it. I ordered a tilta rig and got the ari style handle which is designed to embed the NPF970 plus a samsung SSD drive (I picked up 2 of those). All this stuff sure as well adds up.
@TerenceKearnsАй бұрын
The other advantage of using the NPF to power the dummy battery instead of plugging a wall charger into the dummy battery is that you don't have to worry about power surges or "dirty" power shortening the lifespan of your precious camera.
@TerenceKearnsАй бұрын
I am also really turned off by a massive buly v-mount style battery that sits behnd your flipout screen. The NPF formfactor and size is perfect compromise for long-run shoots.

Why did I never think of this? It's not even a new concept-I’ve seen it before, similar to how tapes work when you want to record them digitally. This is just a battery version of that idea, so why didn't I think of it? I might look into it for my D7500. It could also ensure my phone is always charged, so I don't have to carry around more power banks than necessary. With a 10,500mAh battery, I should be able to use it for both for about 6-7 hours.

How reliable on startup is it? My experience using powerbanks and dummy batteries is that there are small micro interuptions on startup (startup of the powerbank from sleep). Which leads to several attempys to power on your camera. Then, if you plug something into another usb port, thereis another micro interuption. I'm using anker powerbank.

How did you overcome the recording limit of 30 minutes and did your camera run hot or overheat?
@VideoMakerTwist2 ай бұрын
I use a Canon R6 mark II. This camera doesn't have the 30 minute recording limit, and it also doesn't overheat at 4k 25p or 30p. It overheats in 4k 50p and 60p, but only near the 2 hour mark. What camera do you have?

What do you need the dummy battery for? Can't you just plug the usb-c into the usb-c port of the camera?
@VideoMakerTwist2 ай бұрын
The direct usb-c connection can generate an over heating issue with the camera. A dummy battery has a better heat dissipation. Direct USB-C with the camera can also cause some problems with power delivery in scenarios like 4k 60p.

No! Better use additional USB power on long shoots, you can change NP-F without stopping recording. To avoid overheating, use normal cameras for video, fx30 for example. Power bank with dummy can accidentally shoot down, and you loose last recording. Smallrig is overpriced brand, you can find better and cheaper.
