I dusted off my Powerbreathe and spent six weeks training twice a day to see the effect. It not only improved my wearable metrics significantly (HRV, RHR) but also led me to run further in my estimated VO2max test.
I wrote up my results here: 9to5strength.com/powerbreathe...
Research paper: journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/Fu...

What a thorough experiment! That was really interesting ;) Thank you for choosing the POWERbreathe Classic IMT device - the red one you have is certainly the heaviest load and training will have been really hard going. Well done on dusting it off and giving it another go. We're really pleased to see how you've benefited and thank you for your independent review and honest feedback.

Excellent review. I have the blue Powerbreath and I'm going to adopt your training routine. It's too easy to use and the benefits look great. Much thanks, Chris

do you inhale to your belly or use your whole body? so you are supposed to breath in as hard as you can right?

So you used the old school classic what do you think about the K series they are all over 500 dollars?
@9to5strength
@9to5strength 10 ай бұрын
It doesn't seem like value for money at all. As a data guy I'd be keen to see the numbers behind it but in terms of how much more you'd improve vs the classic there's no way the price can justify it. It may be that a competitor has an intermediate option, I see Airofit has a PRO 2.0 for £300 which can measure certain metrics and has an app

@9to5strength Yeah I agree. I actually went and bought the pro I think for 80 dollars after watching your review just came in the mail yesterday so I think you were right.

Do you know if this will help with acid reflux?

Do you use diaphragmatic breathing on the fast inhale or do you fill the upper chest without raising shoulders? On the Powerbreathe site demo, the girl demonstrating only seems to be doing diaphragm breathing with practically zero movement of the chest.
@9to5strength

I fill the upper chest, consciously thinking about expanding out to the sides. There are some breathing muscles on the side of the ribs called the intercostals and I've noticed mine have become really developed since using the PowerBreathe.

What resistances did you use? Did you progress throughout the 6 weeks?
@9to5strength
@9to5strength 24 күн бұрын
I forget what I said in the video but I chose the "heavy" resistance and could only turn it 1/8th of a level every 3-5 days, so I started at level 1 and only made it to level 2 or 2.5. It didn't feel like I made a whole lot of progress but if I then dropped the level by 0.5 or more it was an absolute breeze

I'm using it three mornings a week for 30 breaths and my HRV has remained raised, so averaging 80ms. I'm doing another set of estimated VO2max tests in June so I may do another 6 week protocol after that and retest to see if I can go even higher, I'm still only on level 2 after all

@@9to5strength I received an email from PowerBreathe today announcing that they're bringing out a little sensor device that clips over the mouthpiece and links to an app on your phone giving you access to lots of data. Looks interesting. If it's a reasonable price, I'm certainly going to pick it up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6PQmmt7osaLptU

2:15 You are showing two graphs that clearly shows that the changed happened before you started with the breather ?????
@9to5strength
@9to5strength Күн бұрын
Yeh I noticed that too, I didn't want to fudge the data so kept it in but I made no lifestyle changes in those days so I just put it down to the random variations you sometimes see in HRV/RHR. I think the fact it remains elevated is testament to the breathing protocol, compared to equivalent spikes in March that year that went away again.
