Another one of those nuances about PD that I have not only never used, but was unaware of.

Chris, I really think I will use the "seconds" option quite a bit in the future. It's very easy to move seconds forward or backward and then set a timeline marker, for example. I'm going to need to do another tutorial about when to use or not use scenes, chapters, and subtitles. The variety felt confusing all on the same example clip. --Jim

I watch all of your tutorials. You do a great job! I use the latest version of PD and, though I'm really new to editing, I can't seem to figure out why moving my play head from clip to clip using my mouse automatically selects the clip under it. Sometimes I can't the highlighted selection to turn off so that I can watch the movie I'm building and not just the individual clip that is selected. I don't remember having this problem in the previous version. I'm sure it's something really simple, it usually is. Anyway, please keep making the tutorials.

Tony, Thanks for your kind remarks. They did change a lot with the newest version. I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but you can change the timeline indicator (playhead) behavior on the timelines by switching between the CLIP mod e and the MOVIE mode. The PageUp key puts you in the CLIP mode and the PageDown switches to the MOVIE mode. This might help you as you try to navigate along the timeline in PowerDirector. --Jim

I trimmed the music on where I want it to start but how do I move my video (that I already made from pictures), how do I move the music to the very beginning where my pictures start? Just for references I cut the very beginning of my song so now I just need it move the music back to the beginning of my video where my slideshow starts and I don’t know how to do that. UGH! 😩😫 Can someone please help me 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great video as usual! Isn't there a way to start the playhead at a certain point in time by typing the time (as it used to be possible in Windows Media Player)?
@SharperTurtle5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You rightly pointed out a method I omitted from the lesson. You can type in a time in the timecode below the preview screen and the time indicator will go to the place in the timeline that matches the number. Good point! Thanks! --Jim

Nice tips on using the playhead control. I have two questions. 1. Where is there a list of keyboard shortcuts for PowerDirector 16? I was unaware of the "period" and "comma" keyboard controls. I am unaware of the full array of keyboard shortcuts. 2. You referenced "in the literature" for PowerDirector. Where may this literature be found? TIA

Dave, If you click on the gear at the top it will take you to the preferences screen. Then select "Editing". At the bottom you will find a button to customize the keyboard. This is the quickest ways to learn some of the shortcuts. You can go to this link to find a PDF user guide: www.cyberlink.com/support/powerdirector-ultra/userguide_en_US.html It shows you some of the components, but is not very helpful in all cases of showing you the techniques for using the program. --Jim

Hi Jim, I had a look in Preferences and see all the hotkey default assignments. Thanks for describing the navigation on how to do that. I discovered also that Shift+F12 also brings up the hotkey menus (which I printed to PDF for quick reference). I would like to add that your short, succinct and informative tutorials on the various techniques for getting the most out of Power Director are very good. Thanks for what you do.

Dave, Thanks for pointing out the shortcut to the hotkey menus. Sometimes I learn the quick way to do things and then forget. You correctly understand my training philosophy. I believe most folks learn best in short 'bites' of information. So I attempt to offer one step at a time so video editors can solve a problem or understand a technique and then get back to editing. I'm learning along with all the subscribers because this is an incremental journey for all of us. Thanks for your feedback as a developing video editor. --Jim

Hey, how about something simple like "jump to beginning" or "jump to end"???
@SharperTurtle3 жыл бұрын
You can use the HOME and END keys to move to the beginning or end of either a clip or the entire project. To switch between applying this technique to a clip use (PgUP key) or the project (PgDOWN) key. --Jim
