We all think we need to modify motorcycles and there are some very good reasons to do it too. But there, and many don’t realise this, great reasons why your stock motorcycle, without any changes, is already capable of delivering more than you can handle. In this episode of The PowerDrift Podcast, Shumi talks about his approach to this rather ticklish subject.

Shumi's Pearls of Wisdom.. Hands down practical and perfect.. I do agree that most of times Aux Lights are not needed and irritating especially when there is a nut shining his sun in your eyes.. But the stock bulbs can also be crap.. For the first night ride i had on my Z, i was almost running blind with the stock bulbs.. Changed it to LED's and all is good.. Opted for a engine guards instead of regular crash bars.. Increased the seat height slightly and am much more comfortable with the position it offers.. My one true gripe is the sponginess of the brakes.. Need ur advice, steel braided lines or a new master cylinder??
@shu_mar
@shu_mar 3 жыл бұрын
@@belsonkoshy7884 First chuck the DOT4 and go to 5.1. If that doesn’t work, braided lines. Still no? Change the pads to a more aggressive one. Still no? Master cylinder.

I am a product designer myself, and because of that, I know how much thought and work goes into designing any part of a vehicle. In six years, I have upgraded my tyres for a stickier set and gotten myself a mobile stand, so that i can read the directions on a mobile screen. My first thought about any modification is: "Whoever designed/manufactured this component, does he know better than me? Yes. Then I should stop fiddling with it" Thank you for enforcing my beliefs.

It's not always true but 99% of the time, a lot of time and effort has gone into every single part of a finished product. We *must* mod it to fit our needs better if we can, but it must be a considered, thought-through change, not a knee-jerk reaction or a peer-pressure thing

Exhaust modify torque, otherwise you don't get power. Power= torque*rpm. Just an exhaust doesn't increase redline rpm, rpm is constant. Exhaust may modify the torque in higher rpms though. In non technical langauge people confuse torque with "pick up", but torque works in every rpm.

Shumi, you are the awesomely wise (beardless) sage of Motorcycling. Thanks for sharing your passion and wisdom with us. I agree with you completely, I always like to do functional mods to the bike, after a long ride, if something on my bike constantly takes my attention off from the ride, I will usually adjust or mod it. Usually it is something small, but after it is done it increases the Joy of riding. I had not thought about Sprockets on increasing bike mileage along with performance. Please make a video if you do get a chance (or share a few links on this), as increasing tank range without too much sacrifice on performance adds to the joy of the ride as well.
