This is one of the greatest metal bands I've ever heard! Not all their songs are Christian themed, this one isn't, the whole album this one is on is all war-focused. I'm Christian so it's great to find a band who shares my faith and also totally ROCKS!

It was called Aesir, (I guess Peatman answered that already), but there's more than that: Chief god was Odin, or Wotan (depends on where you were). Thor was the god of thunder (everyone's favorite), and there were many other gods, only other name I know is Loki. The valkyries were Odin's maidservants (somewhat similar to angels), valhalla (their heaven) was where fallen warriors go to sit at the warriors' table with Odin, and of course there is Ragnorok... sry, I'd write more but I'm @ limit

I'm opposed to Christianity now. But I used to be a christian and christian metalhead, and Slechtvalk was one of the best bands I'd heard back then, and I still rank "war that plagues the lands" as one of the best symphonic black metal records I've ever heard.

That's news to me...would you mind linking to the interview where they say that? I've looked at a few and found nothing of the sort. I know they sing about war and death on At the Dawn of War, but I always thought it alluded to spiritual warfare, which makes a lot of sense for a Christian band.

similar to amon amarth?! wut? and viking metal is almost like an inexistent genre ;P bands are labeled as viking metal almost completely because of the lyrical content (mostly viking stuff and alike), almost never bands are labeled as viking metal because of the music itself... most of bands with viking music influence are labeled as folk metal...
