Powermatic Model 100 Planer Rebuild

I own and have rebuilt years 1959 and 1968 Powermatic model 100 planers.There are two posts on KZbin that seem identical by SKUDAK/KYLE. I will address both of these videos on both sites. First, the videos certainly are helpful in doing a rebuild. The process follows along quite well except for one process. I suggest installing the pressure bar before installation of the outfeed roller or outfeed roller gears. Otherwise you will be required to remove these components to fit the pressure bar into its location. Removal of the outfeed drive gear is also necessary to access and tighten the nut on the bottom of the pressure bar. I did not remove the entire outfeed roller but I was required to dismantle the outfeed roller gear system and the clutch gear to enable lowering of the outfeed roll for placement of the pressure bar. It should also be noted that assembly of the pressure bar is basically skipped over in the video. There is one minute little video clip depicting pressure bar placement. Otherwise this video certainly can help answer a lot of questions during the assembly process.

Pro tip for next time... Cap some PVC pipes as close to the diameter of your rollers and cutterhead, stand them on end, insert your rollers and cutterhead, then fill with evaporust and let sit overnight. It works better than the soaked paper towel method and uses far less than if you were to submerge them in a bucket (and you don't have to find a tub long enough).

part #'s for the bearings, or where do you source parts for these old machines?

I wish he showed how he took the sprockets off and where he got the the new ones. I need to change mine and the horizontal ones are being a pain. being stubborn.

I didn't think to film it until I had already taken it apart unfortunately. To get the sprockets off I used a large pry bar and carefully worked my way around the gear until they came off. Unless you mean the bevel sprockets, I had to use a lot of liquid wrench and I had to sand down the shaft to get them to freely slide since it had surface rust on it. I didn't use any new sprockets for anything, just cleaned up the original ones
