I have used many different planers over the year's but never a powermatic. But I have talked to other full time woodworker's who swear by the 14" in particular. It's a well designed machine with some interesting features. I like the wide cutterhead bearings and the fact that they are supported by an outer collar so the head is much easier to remove from the plate castings. I think the only slight let down is the use of rubber belts instead of chains for the feed drive but hardly a major issue. The lack of anti kickback fingers is the reason I'm sure so many schools auctioned them off. If you try to feed more than one piece at a time it will spit one out at extremely high velocity. Seen it happen. Very good way to end your reproductive organs. The early Wadkin BAO was also a machine that suffered this failing. In any event I never ever stand directly behind what I'm feeding even with kickback finger's. Same with table saws. Keep your body out of the firing line friend's. Woodworking machinery can be deadly. Anyway, excellent rebuild Kyle, can't go wrong there. Thanks for sharing it.

Glad you saved this planer and put it back to work. I have the same model planer.

Next time, pick up some pvc pipe slightly oversized of the cutterhead and feed rollers. Cap the bottom of the pipe, put the part in, fill with evaporust. Let sit over night. Works better than soaked towels.

I own and have rebuilt years 1959 and 1968 Powermatic model 100 planers. There are two posts on KZbin that seem identical by SKUDAK/KYLE. I will address both of these videos on both sites. First, the videos certainly are helpful in doing a rebuild. The process follows along quite well except for one process. I suggest installing the pressure bar before installation of the outfeed roller or outfeed roller gears. Otherwise you will be required to remove these components to fit the pressure bar into its location. Removal of the outfeed drive gear is also necessary to access and tighten the nut on the bottom of the pressure bar. I did not remove the entire outfeed roller but I was required to dismantle the outfeed roller gear system and the clutch gear to enable lowering of the outfeed roll for placement of the pressure bar. It should also be noted that assembly of the pressure bar is basically skipped over in the video. There is one minute little video clip depicting pressure bar placement. Otherwise this video certainly can help answer a lot of questions during the assembly process.

Nice. Thanks for making the video--learned a lot on how the machine operates. Hope to do similar with a model 180 in a bit. Enjoy, you earned it :)

Lots of tedious adjustments not shown such as table parallelism, table rollers, infeed and outfeed rollers, chip breaker and pressure bar that must be made with dial calipers before this machine will function properly. Luckily these adjustments are all spec'd in the machine manual. Nice paint job.

That’s what I saw too. I also don’t think it’s right to take a wire wheel to the areas where the bearings seat. I give this video a D-
