A truly professional 'break-up announcement"... nicely done! I watched with interest after recently contacting the marketing department at Powermatic with a collaboration inquiry about their new... well, let me just say one of their shop machines... that I'm considering for the NLC shop. It was a bit humbling to be basically blown off by them. I figured it had to do with channel size or lack of social media exposure or that they just had bigger fish to fry. After hearing your enthusiasm to be free to pick, choose and comment about machines from other brands I'm relieved for not getting attached by 'golden handcuffs'. So thanks for sharing your history with the brand with respect and appreciation and including 'the rest of the story'... enjoy your newfound freedom! Best, Matt

@charlesenfield2192
@charlesenfield2192 2 жыл бұрын
Hope this isn't out of line. Not sure if it's appropriate to comment on products when channels may have sponsorships in place. I guess Marc will delete this if it's a problem. Speaking as the owner of an Incra 5000, I mildly regret buying it. (I rarely regret buying tools, and only strongly regret buying things that are ill-suited for their purpose.). It's a good product - well-built, accurate and flexible - but I find it a little too big and heavy for routine use. I also wish it came with section of the platform to support the stock (and not just the cut-off) when trimming long pieces. Had to take the time to laminate some MDF and plane it to the correct thickness. No big deal, but including a couple dollars in material with the product would have saved me the trouble. I prefer to spend my time in the shop building projects rather than shop accessories. I assume you are too, otherwise you could shop-build something that would do what the Incra 5000 does for far less money. Because of the size and weight, I don't use it much. I made small, dedicated miter sleds for 45 and 90 degree cuts, and when I need other angles I use my Incra 1000SE most of the time. I only get out the 5000 when I need to cut an unusual angle on a large piece of stock. If you routinely miter large workpieces at a wide variety of angles, then the 5000 would be a great purchase. It will do a good job and you'll get lots of use out of it. If that's not your use case you should probably continue to shop around.
@andrewv5104

@@charlesenfield2192 Mostly looking for the extra fence length but also the work support like you said for large miters. I'm not sold on the 5000 so I'm interested to see if there are other options. I have a 1000HD and it's frustrating to have to clamp an external stop block on it 3-4 times a week because it's just not long enough.
@charlesenfield2192
@charlesenfield2192 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewv5104 I feel you, but the little voice in my head lets out a little groan every time I need to move the 5000 on or off the saw. Handling a stop block is much easier. The real value of the 5000 over the 1000 is that it doesn't twist when you're pushing large stock or making deep cuts. Having the sled attached to the guide along its whole length, and having both the miter head and the fence attached to the sled 16" apart makes it very rigid. Assuming your set-up is good, the angle you set is the angle you get. I don't think a conventional miter gauge can possibly be as rigid as the 5000, although some of them may be rigid enough.

If powermatic is reading this they should know you're one of the biggest reasons why I purchased their table saw and bandsaw. I've been absolutely thrilled with both machines. I'd give them two thumbs up if the table saw hadn't claimed them. Kidding....

This is huge. Their tools are amazing, but the only reason I bought my PM2000 a few years ago was because when I first got into the hobby it was through marks early iTunes videos. Still a fan of their products, but I don’t think they’re aware of how important he was to bringing their brand to the current generation of woodworkers.

Well that stinks. Losing sponsors is a bit of a burn when the ads are ‘baked in’ already released videos. The old ads will continue (indefinitely unless deleted) to provide marketing value to the company w/o more dough going in your pocket. I'm reminded of this burn every time I watch an old video of mine; which isn’t often.

Yeah that part is pretty lame. The reality is, most of us don't charge what we're worth and these companies are getting incredible long-term exposure for pennies. But because most of us are individuals with no real marketing experience, we charge too little. That won't last forever but it's certainly still a problem.

@@FixingFurniture - Trevor Jacob did. He edited out a significant chunk of sponsor message at the beginning and equal amount at the end of his "I crashed my Plane" video. That was the result of him copping so much online flack that the sponsor probably pulled out.

Ahhhh the Powermatic Custom 66. Blanchard ground top, Baldor motor, and a custom paint job. I was on the team that put that program together at Wood Werks, and I built the online builder (before they were cool... FORD.) where you could choose your options and see what your saw would look like. Holy crap that was 13 years ago! But that air brushed version you got Marc, was a one of a kind. We had it at a trade show for display before it went to you, and people were lining up to take photos. What ever happened to it?

Management make big mistakes in order to save money. This is definitely not a good strategy for Powermatic. Imagine what cuts they are doing internally if they are dropping the woodworking legend The Wood Whisperer. Not sure what would be better marketing than sponsoring the most famous woodworker on KZbin. I personally wouldn't touch any of their new products made under the new management. Good luck to them🤝

Nicely done Marc. It seems that Powermatic is putting their advertising / sponsorship money into HGTV. All the sudden Ben Napier from Hometown has all new Powermatic tools and this season Dave Marrs from Fixer to Fabulos has all new Powermatic tools. They don't talk about them but they do use them on the show.
