As the old adage says: "When your rooks are split, your position is not particularly good."

Interesting game and analysis. I like your calling Black’s play “indecisive,” which could well be the caption for this game. And as always, thanks Dan!

at this point the najdorf is so saturated with lines that GMs just play whatever they want against it, whether its good or bad. lol

Looks like USA is going to get first place, assuming you consider these players American.

Hmm maybe So just tries to avoid specific preparation from his weaker opponents, by playing 1.e4? I guess that is the worst problem he could encounter: a well prepared 2500 player running him into an easy draw, while he has little ideas about the repertoire of some average GM.

If he's well prepared he can avoid anything with a forced draw, e4 is probably the easiest opening move to win with for the stronger player.

So, how come Marin County Cilic / Bosiocic (Bret Gilbert term) with 2600 rating plays like 2000 player? How did he get to 2600? Something wrong with the rating system.

This is one game bro, maybe he was tired at this point in the Olympiad, maybe he didn't train properly leading up, maybe he slept poorly, maybe Wesley so playing a novelty had a great psychological effect.
