I hope Levon wins the Candidates in March and then beats Magnus in November. Thanks Daniel for your excellent commentary on this tournament. It is always a treat to follow a tournament and then be able watch your excellent analysis.

Awesome tournament. Awesome commentary. I would have liked to see So in the finals, but I like Aronian's game a lot. It would be great to see him battling Magnus for the top spot.

interesting that NO top 10 players could gain ELO points out of FIDE world cup (for classical games), even Aronian lost a little bit. First one to gain was actually Ding Liren. But due to the fact that there are disastrous results from Kramnik, Anand, MVL and Giri, Levon is truly number 2 and 120.000 USD richer - congrats to his second win (first ever) and marriage. Nice performance this year.

Actually Aronian won one(1) ELO point during the World Cup. But I agree that's very meager. But gaining ELO is not the goal of the cup, an invite to the Candidates is.

I never wanted to say MVL played disastrous - in fact he played very good - but he lost 9.6 ELO points during world cup (according to www.2700chess.com) - as well as Levon lost 0.6 points. MVL would have well deserved to qualify as well - but I am sure, he will.

yeah i feel for aronians kh8?! too when u get frustrated but cant find a good move under pressure then u just play something as u know if u think any longer time trouble will get u sooner or later and then u realise it was innacurate or a mistake that happens quite often with my opponents around 2200-2300 they think for 30 mins in a complex position when im expecting them to come up with a strong move but they play something completely strange and unnecesary i wonder what goes through their mind at such moments

thanks for the series, I really enjoyed it , but why were the names not reversed for the Chinese players?
@Battleslash3
@Battleslash3 7 жыл бұрын
Because Chinese names and those from many other East Asian countries are written as which is the reverse of most Western countries. In China, people are referred to (spoken) by this order as well. Ding is his family name and Liren is his given name. On the game sheet, the names are always listed , . However, the spoken convention can be different for other countries like Vietnam. The Vietnamese also write the name using Surname first, but they often are referred to by their given name even in formal settings (Mr./Ms. ). For example, Le Quang Liem would be referred to as Liem.

Would have preferred MVL vs Aronian in the Final. Even though Liren is probably underestimated by the public, MVL is still stronger.
